Group E of the 2013 4chan Winter Cup contained Summer Cup runners-up /int/ and group stage qualifiers /fit/. /vg/ finished in fourth place in the Autumn Babby Cup while /sci/ did enough in reaching the round of 16 of the same tournament.
Summary
Matchday 1
An incisive pass from Polandball sent Putin goalbound and he didn't fail to convert, putting /int/ in the lead against /sci/. A poor challenge on Polandball in /sci/'s box gave /int/ a penalty, which Putin put away to seal his brace and a 2-0 lead for the team. /sci/ eased into the match after this point and a howler from /int/ keeper Lazy Greek gave them a cheap goal. The second half produced next to no action, and /int/ left with the points.
2-0 once again proved to be the most dangerous lead as /vg/ squandered their advantage. New Thread opened scoring after ten minutes. /fit/ struggled to make their way into the match, picking up a couple of bookings for their efforts. The second half continued in much the same fashion as the first, and DesWow doubled /vg/'s lead at the hour mark. The tides turned when Zyzz scored a low drive from just under 30 yards. /vg/'s defensive vulnerabilities were exploited late on with Zyzz's second, but they could do nothing about his third - an dribbling run deep into the penalty area placed in the far corner of the goal.
Matchday 2
Group D's leaders /fit/ and /int/ faced off on the second matchday. Argentina White's impressive volleyed cross met Putin's header which beat Scooby to give /int/ the lead after eight minutes. Last-ditch defending saved /fit/ from falling further behind after half an hour when Polandball's shot towards an open goal as blocked by a sliding defender. Tactical changes at the break allowed /fit/ to be more aggressive and Rippletits scored by sending the ball through Lazy Greek's legs to equalise for /fit/. Just after an hour of play /fit/ were somehow able to repel a barrage of consecutive /int/ shots from clearances to hold onto the draw. Eventually /fit/'s defence caved when Polandball received the ball from 10 yards out to power the ball into the gap between the near post and Scooby to give /int/ the three points.
/sci/ subjected /vg/ to early pressure in their match. The dominance evetually paid off as Bill Nye poached on a defensive error from Dante to put /sci/ one goal ahead. /vg/ were able to find a way back into the match shortly afterwards as a Stephen Hawking save found its way to New Thread who was able to equalise. However, just before the end of the half /vg/'s campaign was left in tatters as Plesioth was dismissed for a poor challenge. Unable to have any significant impact on the match, /vg/ were helpless as Aquatic Hamster was supplied the ball on the edge of the penalty area unmarked and put it past Fenstapo in the seventy-second minute. /sci/ took the points and the result meant /vg/ were relegated with one match remaining.
Matchday 3
The match between /fit/ and /sci/ was vital for both sides as they lay level on points with only one spot in the Round of 16 available. /fit/ wasted no time in making their intent known as Zyzz passed to Tinytrip from 40 yards out who then paced towards goal and made no error in converting the chance. Tinytrip once again used superior speed to score his second to put /fit/ two goals ahead after twenty minutes. /sci/ attempted to force their way to survival with Nikola Tesla's goal just before half time, but the second half bore no fruit. In fact, it was /fit/ who restored the two-goal lead when Zyzz cut inside from the left wing and fired home from a central position. Epicurus' goal in the eighty-eigth minute was too little too late, and the result meant /fit/ would advance to the knockout stage with /sci/ being relegated.
It would have taken a heavy defeat for /int/ to surrender first place in the group to /fit/, but Polandball's headed goal after eight minutes made the chances of such an outcome much less likely. In the following phases of play Putin had a couple of long-range efforts blocked well by Metal Slime. /vg/ enjoyed periods of dominance but were unable to capitalise. It wasn't until the dying moments of the match, and their Winter Cup campaign, that DesWOW was able to score an equaliser after breaking free from the /int/ defence. Serbia YESYESYES had other ideas however, and his excellent curved finish around /vg/'s keeper with two minutes on the clock remaining gave them the win , and first place in group E.
