Team Overview
The one and only Detroit Red Wings. The currently best franchise in the entire world (with no apologies to Manchester United, Bayern Munich, San Antonio Spurs) is now a divegrass team. Which was created without spending a single minute in testing. Also they are only modern memes, not franchise-aged memes. And not even full memes tbh, just player names plus some memes. ROFL, WAS MY DAMAGE CONTROL SUCCESSFUL?
Gordie Howe
And no, there is no space for Gordie Howe on the team (other than The Production Line), as I'm only using (mostly) current players. However, it is worth reminding that he is the greatest player in the history of the game.

Competition History
/ag/ League
The /ag/ League was /drw/'s first foray into any organized or competitive play. They were allowed into the tournament by way of the third (and final!) backup slot. The team didn't feature any spicy memes or hot new aesthetics, but attempted (and will continue to attempt) strange and unused formations and tactics, somewhat subconsciously akin to hockey tactics as well.
They were drawn into Group H with /hsrpg/, /エイト/ and /kanker/, playing them in that order. Their first match against /hsrpg/ started off a little tense and took a turn for the worse, but a little riggy diggy and meme magic through a #Supersub equalizer and literal Magic go-ahead goal gave them their first competitive win in their first game. The next match against /エイト/ went somewhat smoother than the previous one - a calm, controlled performance throughout by /drw/ against a team more goofy than intended. The following group stage game between /hsrpg/ and /kanker/ featured a tying Burning Love goal with only a few minutes remaining. That goal forced a draw between the two teams, officially giving /drw/ a place in the knockout stages.
Their final group stage match against /kanker/ started as a disaster, conceding 4 goals in the opening 24 minutes. While they were always going to be a tough side, /drw/ failed to muster much of anything after the opening flurry and this conceded their group-topping position /kanker/.
As a group runner-up, /drw/ were drawn with /metallurgy/ in the opening round of the knockouts. The match started out with some energy for both teams, but /drw/ struck first and took hold of the momentum. Abbagator scored from a Datsyuk cross (though he wasn't credited for the assist) and then did nearly the same from a Helm pass from the opposite side. /drw/ looked to be in control and nearly had a third goal-scoring chance multiple times, but PES had its way and /metallurgy/ found its way back into the match. Some simple tactical changes and some excellent runs from their strikers created goals that not only got them level, but gave them a third goal, scored at 81', that doomed Detroit. As a consolation prize, /metallurgy/ went on to face /kanker/ in the final.
/drw/ would like to thank the people who organized the AGL for the opportunity to show off some goofy tactics and ensure everyone who cares that /drw/ will compete in as many invitationals and tournaments as possible!
No Bully Bowl
/drw/ signed up to compete in the No Bully Bowl, beginning Saturday, October 15th, 2016. Their first match against /rlg/ ended in a disaster. While they limited /rlg/ heavily through the first 80' minutes of play (apart from a bad giveaway on 67'), /drw/ were unable to generate any offense (literally) during the entire game. The last 10 minutes of the game destroyed /drw/'s goal differential, putting the finishing touches on a game that was barely in reach from the start. With a mountain to climb, /drw/ next faced a desperate /wsr/ team that was denied a goal on multiple occasions due to either great goalkeeping or >PES. /drw/ started out a little smoother, scoring their first goal of the tournament a few moments after the 2nd half kicked off. Smith Kid made things interesting with an own goal about 10 minutes later (though it really should've been a Wasuri goal from a breakaway anyways), but an improbable Silver Miller go-ahead goal in the dying moments of the game gave /drw/ life.
Their final group stage game was against /haniwa/, a team featuring Silver Super-subs. Having just edged out /rlg/ in the previous match and sitting on a comfortable 6 points, /drw/'s goal differential meant that a 2-goal /drw/ win would still allow /haniwa/ to advance. An /rlg/ win against /wsr/ would still eliminate /drw/ via the 6-6-6-0 tragedy. /drw/ scored the goal they needed in the first 10 minutes of the game then ground out a tidy 1-0 result. /rlg/ took care of business in the next match, losing handily to a sleeping dragon-esque /wsr/. Thus, /drw/ clinched one of 8 playoff spots.
In the fourth and last knockout pairing, /drw/ were drawn against /epl/, another team with an experienced 4CC manager. The two sides began a breathtaking game of divegrass, but /drw/ and PES took over the last 30 minutes of the game, tying a young record for /drw/'s best match result.
With bully-favorites /epl/ cast aside, /drw/ then faced /ghost/ in the semi-final in a match that could be argued as match of the tournament. BASED GLENDENING of ALL players scored from kickoff abuse to open the match. /ghost/ answered about 20 minutes later from a great Vengful Menman shot. The rest of the match played out with rope-tight tension into extra time, though getting there was no easy task for either team. Near the end of the first extra time period, My Spooky Ghost Waifu broke free from Captain Hank's previously iron-gripped clutches to score for /ghost/. However, /drw/ hit right back, leveling the match just 4 minutes into the second frame. Both teams hung on desperately for the sweet release of benuldies. In the end, after 14 perfect penalties, Hsien-ko sent one straight down the middle, to which Mrazek adjusted as he'd been diving on previous save attempts. Smith Kid buried the next penalty, sending /drw/ to the final.
/drw/'s last opponent was /eeee/, a team comprised of high-caliber offensive tactics beset against /drw/'s typically stout backline and deep midfield. The match started out marvelously for /drw/, with a DARRAN HALM brace in the first 30-odd minutes of play. /eeee/ made some tactical changes after the 2nd concession and immediately got themselves back into the game. /drw/ countered with changes of their own, but failed to convert a scoring chance to reclaim their 2-goal lead. /eeee/ tied the game with 20 minutes to go, reclaiming any momentum they lost at the start of the game. Sadly, in the dying moments of normal time, BINGO BANGO! was caught in possession deep in his own zone and gave away /drw/'s chance at a title.
But seriously, in the end, /drw/ got improbably far and played admirably. Their manager is extremely proud of their run and ensures that this will not be the last time they are seen! Massive thank you to everyone who supported and supports the Winged Wheel! LGRW
/ag/ League 2
/drw/ were placed in Group M (13 of 16 groups) of the 2nd /ag/ League. Their first match was against fellow /hoc/ rivals, /mild/. Kapfinn and /mild/ thoroughly outchanced and outplayed /drw/ to win 3-1, capped by a remarkable bicycle kick from the /mild/ captain in the 2nd half. (seen here just after the 3:00:00 mark). Not to be overlooked was Snip Show's goal from a free kick 10 minutes later.
/drw/ came out a little better against /trb/, but conceded first and could only manage a draw. However, /mild/ lost their match to /nba/ in the other 2nd round game and /trb/ only managed a draw against /nba/ in the first round. This meant that while /drw/ were at the bottom of the group, they were always able to control their destiny. After sadly lost 1-0 from a late goal to /trb/, all that /drw/ needed was a 2-goal win to overcome goal differential against /nba/.
The match started out fairly well, with Captain Hank scoring from a BINGO BANGO! cross on 12'. Both teams had strong chances, but nothing definitive. After the switch to +2, however, /nba/ found lots of space on the attack and > of all players scored to effectively killed the dream. HOWEVER, a good /drw/ attack finished off by Snip Show gave /drw/ life. Then, in the dying moments of the game, the ball fell to the foot of X. He took a shot that was saved, but the rebound fell to Sauce, who tapped it in for a 90+3' goal to give /drw/ the knockouts berth by way of Head-to-head ruling. Unfortunately, the goal was ruled offside, with the final whistle immediately after during the ensuing goalkick. The stream chat quickly agreed that this was the best game of the tournament to this point, so at least /drw/ has that going for them.
/drw/ would like to thank EVERYONE involved in this extremely ambitious project to have a 64-team group stage tournament, complete with 32 teams in the knockouts. This was a massive undertaking and a wonderful event. Despite missing on the knockouts, /drw/ finish as one of the best losers, especially considering they didn't concede 15 fucking goals lmao. Stay tuned for /hoc/ League!
