/asp/ F.C. is the football club of the Alternative Sports and Wrestling 4chan board. Born in 2013, both the board and the team have undergone quite a few identity changes over the years. What started off as predominantly a hub for mixed martial arts discussion with occasional wrestling talk thrown in has transformed into its own counter-culture mecca of mostly wrestling-related shitposting, while also serving as a home for other folks seeking to discuss forms of entertainment considered too out-of-place on /sp/. Perennially strong but still looking to break through to the next level, /asp/ has developed into a Cup favorite squad and will seek to bring home the gold to their dedicated /asp/ies.

The Big Dog moments after dooming /asp/

For the first time in its history, /asp/ found itself playing in the Spring Babby Cup after just missing out on promotion in Autumn. With a rejiggered roster featuring new Pure Striker The Undercarder, /asp/ drew what appeared to be a relatively easy Group D along with perennial yo-yoers  /m/, autopilot  /cm/, similarly crestfallen  /mu/ and recently revived  /gif/. Things got off to a promising start with /asp/ garnering a well fought 2-0 win over /cm/ on the feet of two Bruce Lee goals. However, the combination of an unfortunate no-call on a dangerous tackle to AJ tacked on with a very late 90+6' goal from Shin Getter Robo led to a 2-1 defeat to /m/, drawing /asp/ at a level 1 win and 1 loss. In their next match, /asp/ arguably reached its lowest point as a team since 2013, being upset by /gif/ in a 1-0 slurper despite the best efforts of emergency substitution Kemonito. Once again, the team found itself in a situation where they needed a win and some help to promote.

The final match of the group stage pitted them against /mu/ in a clash of formerly Elite titans that lived up to its billing. Some aggressive pressuring in the first half and some solid play from Big Bible AJ got the W/asp/s up to a 2-0 lead at halftime. A quick response from Michael Gira after the break brought it to 2-1, where it remained for much of the second half until AJ broke through the defense and got things back to a two-goal difference, at the time putting /asp/ in an advantageous spot for promotion. Then, with no one but Gira and VACANT around him, Roman Reigns did the unthinkable. Losing control of a long cross into the box, The Big Dog dribbled the ball into his own net past a stunned VACANT, putting the scoreline at 3-2 and forcing the team to hold onto a one score victory, losing control of its own destiny in the progress. Ultimately, the own goal meant little as /m/ were able to ensure their own promotion with a win over /gif/ the following day, but the emotional and psychological impact was pronounced. The Big Dog was sacked, and with that /asp/ found itself out of the Elites for the entirety of 2018. The quest for a cup win will continue in the 2018 Autumn Babby Cup.

The board rivalry got ugly once Hiroyuki Nishimura moved wrestling to /asp/, since the way it happened made /sp/ users feel like they "kicked out" the wrestling fans, akin to Shawn Michaels superkicking Marty Jannetty through the barbershop window. Years before this happened, /sp/ and /asp/ managers already had an agreement in place where /asp/ could take wrestling-related players from /sp/. As a result, Winter Cup winner Goatface (renamed to American Dragon), CENAWINSLOL, and Bork Lazer moved to /asp/. The first match in this rivalry was in the Summer Cup 2014 Friendlies, an generally uneventful match which ended in a 1-0 defeat for /asp/. These teams faced each other in the 2017 Winter Cup where /sp/ got a dominant 3-1 win over /asp/. The W/asp/s would finally get one on the board in the 2018 Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, winning 1-1 in penalties due to a miss from >Torres and a clincher from Big Match John. They would meet in a friendly once again in the 2020 Spring Babby Cup Friendlies, pushing the game to penalties once again but this time falling short.
