Ever since breaking off from older brother /v/, /vg/ has dutifully carried on the time-honored pledge of all boards that are vidya: talking about everything except vidya. If you're /vg/, that means gachashit, weebshit, and gay fucking shit. Sometimes all three at once.

A veteran of the 4chan Cup, with a history as bumpy and dubious as the board it represents, sometimes >we're good, and good enough to win a Cup. How that happens is anyone's guess. Since the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, the /vg/ League has been the way /vg/ has determined its roster for cups. Initially, only medal players were decided with this method, with other players being chosen by way of contacting the board's fastest generals. However, the /vg/ League now determines the entire /vg/ roster, with a meta player being a permanent gold (currently Git Gud), while the gold and both silvers are determined by the top three teams in the League. So far, fifteen incarnations of the /vg/ League have been completed.

The Rivalry
 /v/ - Vidya Derby |
Since /vg/ is /v/'s little brother, some sibling rivalry is bound to ensue. Everything BUT Videogames vs. Everything BUT Videogames (in general form!), who will come out on top?
To date the all time record has /v/ winning 2 out of 4 official matches, with both of their wins coming in friendlies. However, /vg/'s lone win in the series came during an elite cup and served to relegate /v/. An unofficial friendly match was played between the two before the 2015 4chan Winter Cup, with /v/ winning 1–0, and both teams have met three times in each of the two Vidya Bowls. The fourth official Vidya Bowl came in the 2017 4chan Summer Cup group stage, three years to the last. /v/ got another early lead, but unfortunately /vg/ could not turn same magic they did long ago and only got an equalizer, which ended up being the difference between relegation and advancement. Of course, both teams went and completely shat the bed following their relegation. |

Team History
This time around, the rigging hat placed /vg/ in Group D with well-loved meme team /f/, recent Babby Champions /d/, and a /diy/ with a proper manager for the first time since 2015. It was a group largely dubbed easy by cup spectators, and with /vg/ having made three of the past four Elite Cups' final days, why wouldn't anyone see them as having an easy time? First up was those Babby Champions, /d/, a team that had won their Babby Cup largely through defensive feats. However, even by that standard, the match that followed was somewhat disappointing; in the full ninety minutes, /d/ failed to record even a single shot on target, much less a goal. /vg/ didn't do much either, and the end result was a complete dud of a match, a 0–0 draw that left absolutely nobody happy. After /f/, /vg/'s next opponent, got utterly blasted by /diy/ to the tune of 0–4, /vg/ followed with a heroic defensive performance, with new silver Anchovy scoring a goal at the ninth minute and much of the rest of the match spent holding off /f/ attacks. Gogeta sent in a corner for the gold Bigley to head in at the death, cementing a 2–0 victory and eliminating /f/ early. However, /f/ were playing the group's very next match, against /d/, who had just beaten /diy/. /vg/ could advance without /f/ playing potentially one last match of FUCK YOU FOOTBALL™, but it would help tremendously. What transcended was a gigantic /f/ win, 4–1, and at the end of the day, all /vg/ needed to do to stay Elite yet again was not lose by four goals. In the next match, blue was the color of all that we wore, blue was the pitch and the goalkeeper too, we played /diy/ and they were so blue. Anchovy scored another goal, /vg/ lost 1–2 in a fairly tepid performance, and they were still through.
Naturally, their next opponent was a Winter 2020 rematch. In particular, /out/, /vg/'s last opponent overcome before falling to the might of /pol/. Promises were made of a more inspired /vg/, which quickly turned out to be worthless as the first half ended 0–0. Soon after the second half began, the more dominant /out/ cashed in, scoring two goals in rapid succession before Salty Umbrella put /vg/ back into the match in equally rapid fashion. And that's all that fucking happened. The match ended a 1–2 defeat to /out/, the second time /vg/ had ever been eliminated in a Round of 16. /vg/ are still Elite, better than most teams up to and including all those other really bad at divegrass vidya boards, but it was perhaps even more fortunate than their Winter advancement and the team has serious questions over the next six months.
Wow, I can't fucking wait for Hiro to make a new vidya board, AGAIN.
After the complete disappointment in Summer, the winningest manager in >VGL history retired to fill the yearly "retiring /vg/ manager" quota. /vg/ then played three matches in the 2018 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, against /v/, /u/, and /cm/. They lost all three of them.
The /vg/ League 15 happened, with /xcg/ coming back from the dead and finally winning the league after many, many attempts. /akg/ rose from Wooden Spoon hell to achieve second place, while another defending champion won a Third Place Trophy.
