And just like that, everything the team was, and what it had worked for, it turned out, wasn't worth shit. With history rewritten, not even the Wardrobe Malfunction counted for anything -- because that too, was just Dragonfag getting a free meat puppet into Winter (at the expense of another - he managed both /fa/ and /vp/).

That came later: after /u/ defeated /vp/ 2-1 and then went on to defeat /vg/, the group's other dominant team, /vp/ were all but doomed, needing to {{tt|blow /c/ the fuck out|by a difference of seven goals}} to advance on goal differential. While a PES crash that gave /vp/ better conditions let fans dream for a while, the team failed in an awful 1-1 draw mostly remembered for late-game Konata spaghetti that dragged /c/ down with /vp/. Finishing 32nd of the 40 teams in the Cup, it wasn't exactly the best way to start off a year, but it was definitely better than being stuck in a Fetus or being a sockpuppet, and so /vp/ looked toward Autumn.

As Summer dragged on, however, it became clear that the Cup was about to enter a time of great upheaval: as Elite teams left and right stumbled into Fall, the stakes were now higher than ever, and again doubt seeped into /vp/, now facing the very real possibility of going against titans -- and likewise, the very real possibility of ending up at the bottom once more.

/vp/ F.C., the virtual divegrass team representing 4chan's /vp/ - Pokémon board, was founded January 6th, 2012, as part of the Third Founding of 4chan Cup teams. The team, while not having had much historical success and having been part of serious controversy, has seen a recent upswing due to appearances in an Elite Cup and a scheduled appearance in the 2015 4chan Summer Cup.

Introduction and Team History

2012 Spring and Autumn

/vp/, created on January 6th 2012 as one of the Founding Babbies, had a rocky start: defeats to /cgl/ and future Cup powerhouse /toy/, as well as a draw to /s/, saw /vp/ finish bottom of Group A, and 17th of 21 teams participating in the 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup -- below only /po/, eliminated in the Preliminary Round, and /cm/, /n/, and /y/, who were retroactively disqualified due to the events of Dragongate.

Doomed to the Autumn Babbies, /vp/ looked to make their first Elite Cup. And they did -- but this berth was not without controversy: it came only after the /wg/ manager Tom (who went on to win the Cup) benched his starters, allowing /vp/ to rocket four goals past their keeper, and /fa/ manager DelawareDaps abandoned his team in their crucial final match against /po/ -- an event that would come to be known as the Wardrobe Malfunction. Nonetheless, /vp/ had advanced, and while they were eliminated by /tv/ 3-1 in the first round of the knockouts, the team had a future to think about in the big leagues.

2013 Winter and Spring

And then it all went to shit.

/vp/'s knack for getting itself grouped with strong sides struck again, as they were drawn into Group A of the 2013 4chan Winter Cup with /tg/, /co/, and /jp/ -- a group that relegated them thanks to the management of Preston !!nvg+R4h9WHc and a god-awful performance (no thanks to you, Nigger Winner Futhremore holy shit you stillborn cuck) that included a draw to /co/ and sound defeats to both the fa/tg/uys and /jp/edos.

Relegated to Spring, and managed by Gallow !!7stZmDLgMOZ, /vp/ hoped to make it back to an Elite Cup -- but grouped with the paper planes of /po/ and the big guys of /tv/, who would later go on to place second that cup, /vp/ didn't fly so good, finishing 3rd in their group.

As a consolation, they weren't exactly the worst team, and their finishing position meant that they were safe for any unforeseen events in the future, what with the Cup on an upswing...Right?

2013 Autumn

One word: Dragongate. Gallow, it turned out, was only a front for then-/n/ manager Dragonfag, who was also /cm/ manager Kageyama, who was also...you get the picture.

And just like that, everything the team was, and what it had worked for, it turned out, wasn't worth shit. With history rewritten, not even the Wardrobe Malfunction counted for anything -- because that too, was fucking rigged.

So what was I saying about unforeseen events? Right: at the conclusion of the 2013 Summer Cup, the introduction of the Fifth Founding teams presented a problem for the upcoming Autumn Babby: how would they allow these eight new teams to compete while having a divisible number of teams? And so, the Babby Cup Qualifiers, also known as the Fetus Cup, was (still)born, pitting the eight worst teams in Spring against these up-and-coming squads. /vp/, for its role in Dragongate, was kicked to this level, and drawn in Group C with /an/, /s/, and newcomers /asp/, and /out/.

Managed by Test Ponyta !!YXbPlZYbUui, /vp/ started badly, losing 2-1 to /out/. While the team rallied in the next game to rout /s/ 5-2, that glimmer of hope was quickly stamped out, as they were blown the fuck out in their next two matches: a 1-4 to /asp/, and a 0-4 to /an/. Left in the Fetus, unable to qualify for even the Babby, and with months of misery away from Spring, /vp/ was reduced to basically nothing in the Cup as others soared, and it didn't seem like anything was going to change -- at least, not soon...

2014 Spring and Summer

While their lackluster performance in the Fetus Cup would have all but doomed /vp/ to another round of torment in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup Qualifiers, things changed.

The Fetus Cup was, surprisingly, cancelled, as the cup's supreme rigmasters opted for a new format that led to what is now referred to as the Mega Babby. With new manager Powdinet !!OuxsQQ+O0Aj at the helm, and drawing what seemed to be a stroke of luck in Group H, /vp/ dared to dream again.

One may notice, however, that throughout this it is clear that /vp/ has had a history of disappointment, and in that department /vp/ delivered: crushed by resurgent /vg/ 3-0 at the hands of one previously considered one of the Cup's worst managers, the Spring campaign started rockier than a Charizard's ass after switching in on some sneaky pebbles. /vp/, however, was not down and out: with a 2-1 victory that relegated /sci/ to Autumn, they had three points after two games -- not exactly the best position, but certainly not the time for fear either.

That came later: after /u/ defeated /vp/ 2-1 and then went on to defeat /vg/, the group's other dominant team, /vp/ were all but doomed, needing to blow /c/ the fuck out to advance on goal differential.

2014 Autumn

But at the bottom, the only real way to go is up.

With the Autumn Babby Cup looming, /vp/ looked for hope -- and they found it in the unlikeliest of people: a new manager, McBob !!zPWSTDJs1Sv. Criticized for his unorthodox box-shaped formation, and drawn into Group H with /cgl/, /y/, newly-formed /i/, and two-time champs /sp/, there was significant doubt that /vp/ could even dare to advance.

Doubt, however, turned to cautious optimism as /vp/ began their Autumn campaign with a bang. You can call it >artism, call it tactical genius, call it whatever you want: but as /vp/ edged out /sp/ 3-2 in a tight, generally /sp/-dominated game and echoes of #MCBOPPED rang through the thread, it looked like the tides had begun to turn.

And how they did: while /vp/ only managed to eke out a 1-1 draw from an /i/ game they dominated in the first half, and held /y/ to a 1-1 draw, their 2-1 victory over a failing /cgl/ side cemented them as group winners, and into an Elite Cup for the first time in two years.

However, they weren't done yet -- paired against /ck/, a team that had demolished cup stalwart /a/ 6-1 in the group stages, /vp/ had a ways to go in their trek through Victory Road. But rising to the challenge, and in spite of the poor conditions, /vp/ captain Miror B. shot two goals past the /ck/ goalkeeper to win what had fittingly been dubbed the Salsab Owl, marking the first time /vp/ had gotten out of the Round of 16.

Although their surprising run was ended by eventual Babby Cup champions /b/ in a 4-1 demolition in the quarter-final, /vp/ had made their mark: finishing 7th overall -- their best finish in any Cup so far. In the aftermath of the cup, they were also voted Most Improved, and shared Best Manager with cup winner /b/.

In a Winter Cup once again, and for real this time, the idea that they were contenders and not punching bags began to take root again in the board and the team -- a feeling that hadn't been felt on /vp/ for a long time.

2015 Winter

All that having been said, let's face it -- it's a tall order to beat the Elite Four on your first real run through the Pokémon League.

Drawn in Group A with then-champion and One True Elite /mu/, consistent force /f/, and a familiar face in /i/, /vp/'s odds seemed, again, unfavorable. But through hard work, dedication, and a lot of grinding, /vp/...lost. There wasn't any better way to describe it. Even though a solid performance in a tight 1-0 defeat to /mu/ seemed encouraging going into /vp/'s next two games, it wasn't meant to be: their rematch with /i/ ended up a 0-2 defeat that saw /vp/ become the first team mathematically eliminated from contention. But there was still something to chase: a little bit of glory, and perhaps the idea that /vp/ could record its best finish in an Elite Cup by managing to not lose against /f/.

Despite an early Takeo Ischii goal and the goalkeeping heroics of Segata Sanshiro, a tap-in goal from /vp/ striker Bravest Bird gave /vp/ the draw they needed to make that finish - a small consolation seeing as they still finished 26th of the 32 teams of Winter.

Hey, being a yo-yo team is better than being perma-babby, right?

2015 Spring

With Spring comes new hope.

Coming off a victory in the Test Cup, and entering the brave new world of PES 2015, /vp/ looked in good form for the Spring Babbies. Plus, drawn in Group D with underdogs /out/ and /r9k/, a revived and unproven /fit/, as well as a team that had similarly failed to advance in Winter, /x/, luck seemed to be going /vp/'s way for once.

Luck, however, wouldn't win groups -- numbers did. So /vp/ put themselves on the board in a 5-1 steamrolling of /out/, which included a cheeky slow roller and a bump off the top of the goalpost that was converted immediately afterward. All seemed good until their visit to Lavender Town, where the spookmasters of /x/ dominated /vp/ in possession en route to a solid 3-0 win. When /vp/ went on to draw their next game against /fit/, who at that time had been dominating the group, /vp/ seemed in dire straits -- with one game left against surprisingly-decent /r9k/, and sitting at the bottom of their group, another miracle seemed to be what it would take for /vp/ to make it to Summer for the first time in team history.

A miracle that came in the form of Miror B and McBob's box formation, producing a stunning result: five goals, all from Miror B, tying /vp/'s GD with /x/ and all but confirming them for Summer. When /fit/ capped off Group D with a 1-1 draw against /x/, that was it -- /vp/ would finally see a Summer Cup.

Although they went out in poor fashion to the /d/eviants in the Round of 16, /vp/ could -- and can rest easy for now with their berth into another Elite Cup. With a new co-manager, Technetium !!4m/i+1CCCD6, coming on for Summer, /vp/ hopes, at the very least, not to disappoint, and at the best, to be counted amongst the Elites and make it into the Hall of Fame.

Get hyped.

Rivalries

>implying anyone gives a fuck about rivalries

V logo.png
The Vidya Derby

/vp/, created in 2009 to stop Pokémon threads from overwhelming /v/ after the announcement of HeartGold and SoulSilver, doesn't really have a good relationship with their progenitor board.

Some might argue that /v/ had more games until they kicked /vp/ out, but that's debatable. The fact alone that /vp/ exists doesn't really help things, because now that Pokémon has a board all to itself, all the unsavory elements have broken loose: waifufags, furries, and general autism. Really, neither board is completely blemish-free, but they'll go on hating each other anyway.

The only meeting between the two teams, however, was a friendly, one which /v/ won 2-0.

W0 - D0 - L1
Vr logo.png
Nostalgia Derby

Don't get me wrong, there's no problem with retro games -- it's just that for the record, Pokémon Red and Blue were, objectively speaking, a fucking horrible, glitch-ridden mess.

Unfortunately, the genwunners don't seem to have gotten the memo. Thing is, nostalgiafaggotry is frowned upon on /vp/ as discounting the improvements of later generations, and when you have /vr/ -- a board literally made of nostalgiafaggotry, something's bound to go on a terrible collision course.

/vp/ and /vr/ have met two times: a 3-2 victory in the 2013 Summer Cup Friendlies, followed by a 1-0 strikeback from /vr/ in the following Summer.
