A summary of the complete history of the /vp/ team.

2012

Founding, 2012 Spring & Autumn

/vp/, created on January 6th 2012 as one of the Founding Babbies, had a rocky start: defeats to /cgl/ and future Cup powerhouse /toy/, as well as a draw to /s/, saw /vp/ finish bottom of Group A, and 17th of 21 teams participating in the 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup -- below only /po/, eliminated in the Preliminary Round, and /cm/, /n/, and /y/, who were retroactively disqualified due to the events of Dragongate.

Doomed to the Autumn Babbies, /vp/ looked to make their first Elite Cup. And they did -- but this berth was not without controversy: it came only after the /wg/ manager Tom (who went on to win the Cup) benched his starters, allowing /vp/ to rocket four goals past their keeper, and /fa/ manager RandomFashionista abandoned his team in their crucial final match against /po/ -- an event that would come to be known as the Wardrobe Malfunction. Nonetheless, /vp/ advanced, and though eliminated by /tv/ 3-1 in the round of 16, they had an Elite Cup to look forward to.

2013

2013 Winter & Spring

And then it all went to shit.

/vp/'s knack for getting itself grouped with strong sides struck again, as they were drawn into Group A of the 2013 4chan Winter Cup with /tg/, /co/, and /jp/ -- a group that relegated them thanks to the management of Preston !!nvg+R4h9WHc and a god-awful performance (no thanks to you, Nigger Winner Futhremore holy shit you stillborn cuck) that included a draw to /co/ and sound defeats to both the fa/tg/uys and /jp/edos.

Relegated to Spring, and managed by Gallow !!7stZmDLgMOZ, /vp/ hoped to make it back to an Elite Cup -- but grouped with the paper planes of /po/ and the big guys of /tv/, who would later go on to place second that cup, /vp/ didn't fly so good, finishing 3rd in their group.

As a consolation, they weren't exactly the worst team, and their finishing position meant that they were safe for any unforeseen events in the future, what with the Cup on an upswing...Right?

2013 Autumn

One word: Dragongate. Gallow, it turned out, was only a front for then-/n/ manager Dragonfag, who was also /cm/ manager Kageyama, who was also...you get the picture.

And just like that, everything the team was, and what it had worked for, it turned out, wasn't worth shit. With history rewritten, not even the Wardrobe Malfunction counted for anything -- because that too, was fucking rigged.

So what was I saying about unforeseen events? Right: at the end of Summer, the introduction of the Fifth Founding teams presented a problem for the upcoming Autumn Babby: how would they allow these eight new teams to compete while having a divisible number of teams? And so, the Babby Cup Qualifiers, also known as the Fetus Cup, was (still)born, pitting the eight worst teams in Spring against these up-and-coming squads. /vp/, for its role in Dragongate, was kicked to this level, and drawn in Group C with /an/, /s/, and newcomers /asp/, and /out/.

Managed by Test Ponyta !!YXbPlZYbUui, /vp/ started badly, losing 2-1 to /out/. While the team rallied in the next game to rout /s/ 5-2, that glimmer of hope was quickly stamped out, as they were blown the fuck out in their next two matches: a 1-4 to /asp/, and a 0-4 to /an/. Left in the Fetus, unable to qualify for even the Babby, and with months of misery away from Spring, /vp/ was reduced to basically nothing in the Cup as others soared, and it didn't seem like anything was going to change -- at least, not soon...

2014

2014 Spring & Summer

While their lackluster performance in the Fetus Cup would have all but doomed /vp/ to another round of torment in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup Qualifiers, things changed.

The Fetus Cup was, surprisingly, cancelled, as the cup's supreme rigmasters opted for a new format that led to what is now referred to as the first Mega Babby. With new manager Powdinet !!OuxsQQ+O0Aj at the helm, and drawing what seemed to be a stroke of luck in Group H, /vp/ dared to dream again.

One may notice, however, that throughout this it is clear that /vp/ has had a history of disappointment, and in that department /vp/ delivered: crushed by resurgent /vg/ 3-0 at the hands of one previously considered one of the Cup's worst managers, the Spring campaign started rockier than a Charizard's ass after switching in on some sneaky pebbles. /vp/, however, was not down and out: with a 2-1 victory that relegated /sci/ to Autumn, they had three points after two games -- not exactly the best position, but certainly not the time for fear either.

That came later: after /u/ defeated /vp/ 2-1 and then went on to defeat /vg/, the group's other dominant team, /vp/ were all but doomed, needing to blow /c/ the fuck out to advance on goal differential. While a PES crash that gave /vp/ better conditions let fans dream for a while, the team failed in an awful 1-1 draw mostly remembered for late-game Konata spaghetti that dragged /c/ down with /vp/. Finishing 32nd of the 40 teams in the Cup, it wasn't exactly the best way to start off a year, but it was definitely better than being stuck in a Fetus or being a sockpuppet, and so /vp/ looked toward Autumn.

As Summer dragged on, however, it became clear that the Cup was about to enter a time of great upheaval: as Elite teams left and right stumbled into Fall, the stakes were now higher than ever, and again doubt seeped into /vp/, now facing the very real possibility of going against titans -- and likewise, the very real possibility of ending up at the bottom once more.

2014 Autumn

At the bottom, the only real way to go is up.

With the Autumn Babby Cup looming, /vp/ looked for hope -- and they found it in the unlikeliest of people: a new manager, McBob !!zPWSTDJs1Sv. Criticized for his unorthodox and ridiculously wide box-shaped formation, and drawn into Group H with /cgl/, /y/, newly-formed /i/, and two-time champions /sp/, there was significant doubt that /vp/ could even dare to advance.

Doubt, however, turned to cautious optimism as /vp/ began their Autumn campaign with a bang. You can call it >artism, call it tactical genius, call it whatever you want: but as /vp/ edged out /sp/ 3-2 in a tight, generally /sp/-dominated game and echoes of #MCBOPPED rang through the thread, it looked like the tides had begun to turn.

And how they did: while /vp/ only managed to eke out a 1-1 draw from /i/ and /y/, their 2-1 victory over a failing /cgl/ side cemented them as group winners, and Elite Cup ticketholders for the first time in two years.

However, they weren't done yet -- paired against /ck/, a team that had demolished cup stalwart /a/ 6-1 in the group stages, /vp/ had a ways to go in their trek through Victory Road. But rising to the challenge, and in spite of his poor starting form, Miror B. shot two goals past the /ck/ goalkeeper to win what had fittingly been dubbed the Salsab Owl, marking the first time /vp/ had gotten out of the Round of 16.

Although their surprising run was ended by eventual Babby Cup champions /b/ in a 4-1 demolition in the quarter-final, /vp/ had made their mark: finishing 7th overall -- their best finish in any Cup so far. In the aftermath of the cup, they were also voted Most Improved, and shared Best Manager with cup winners /b/.

In a Winter Cup once again, and for real this time, the idea that they were contenders and not punching bags began to take root again in the board and the team -- a feeling that hadn't been felt on /vp/ for a long time.

2015

2015 Winter

All that having been said, let's face it -- it's a tall order to beat the Elite Four on your first real run through the Pokémon League.

Drawn in Group A with then-champion and One True Elite /mu/, consistent force /f/, and a familiar face in /i/, /vp/'s odds seemed, again, unfavorable. But through hard work, dedication, and a lot of grinding, /vp/...lost. There wasn't any better way to describe it. Even though a solid performance in a tight 1-0 defeat to the current champion seemed encouraging going into /vp/'s next two games, it wasn't meant to be: their rematch with /i/ ended up a 0-2 defeat that saw /vp/ become the first team mathematically eliminated from contention. But there was still something to chase: a little bit of glory, and perhaps the idea that /vp/ could record its best finish in an Elite Cup by managing to not lose against /f/.

Despite an early Takeo Ischii goal and the goalkeeping heroics of Segata Sanshiro, a tap-in goal from /vp/ striker Bravest Bird gave /vp/ the draw they needed to make that finish - a small consolation seeing as they still finished 26th of the 32 teams of Winter. Well, being a yo-yo team is better than being perma-babby.

2015 Spring & Summer

Coming off a victory in the Test Cup, /vp/ looked in good form for the Spring Babbies. Plus, drawn in Group D with underdogs /out/ and /r9k/, a revived and unproven /fit/, as well as a team that had similarly failed to advance in Winter, /x/, luck seemed to be going /vp/'s way for once.

Luck, however, wouldn't win groups -- numbers did. So /vp/ put themselves on the board in a 5-1 steamrolling of /out/, which included a cheeky slow roller and a bump off the top of the goalpost that was converted immediately afterward. All seemed good until their visit to Lavender Town, where the spookmasters of /x/ dominated /vp/ in possession en route to a solid 3-0 win. When /vp/ went on to draw their next game against /fit/, who at that time had been dominating the group, /vp/ seemed in dire straits -- with one game left against surprisingly-decent /r9k/, and sitting at the bottom of their group, another miracle seemed to be what it would take for /vp/ to make it to Summer for the first time in team history.

A miracle that came in the form of Miror B and the manager's classic box formation, producing a stunning result: five goals, all from Miror B, tying /vp/'s GD with /x/ and all but confirming them for Summer. When /fit/ capped off Group D with a 1-1 draw against /x/, that was it -- /vp/ would finally see a Summer Cup, and with it, a chance to not be Babby-tier trash anymore. Again!

...Or, of course, the future could refuse to change because /vp/ CRASHES AND BURNS IN EVERY FUCKING ELITE CUP.

With losses to /e/ 2-1 and /tv/ 4-0, /vp/ was surprisingly not out of contention until its final group stage match against /asp/. Even though a massive 4-1 victory by /tv/ over /e/ produced exactly the chance and the hope /vp/ needed to advance, they failed to overcome the odds against JOHN CENA in an awful match that involved stupidly wide shots, a medal being subbed out, and general spaghetti as /asp/ took the match and the Elite berth from /vp/, leaving them dead last in Summer. Just fuck my shit up, fam.

2015 Autumn

/vp/'s run seemed uncertain in the hands of new managers Technetium !!rb+zz19X9Cq and Resolink !!q9PyzmIBtiU come Autumn, although their placement in Group F with then-Babby fixture /pol/, perennial chokers /c/, autopilot /lgbt/, and a /lit/ whose managerial situation was in turmoil was cause for some optimism.

While they charged out of the gate by crushing /lgbt/ 4-1, their success was immediately undone by a /lit/ team invoking the power of eldritch horrors on Halloween in /vp/'s worst defeat to date 6-0.

After the demoralizing defeat it seemed /vp/ was unlikely to recover, but they did: rallying to a 3-2 victory over /pol/ as team captain Bravest Bird flew three goals over THE WALL, all /vp/ needed then to advance was a win or draw over /c/, given their failure to eke out a win against already-dead /lgbt/. They did one better: in a game decided by a one-goal breakthrough by Miror B., /vp/ went on to top the group as /pol/ eliminated /lit/ 3-1 to advance.

Despite being eliminated by eventual Cup winner /out/ 3-0 in the Round of 16, the team looked toward Winter -- another chance for them to improve on past performances, and perhaps even remain among the Elites.

2016

2016 Winter

In Winter /vp/ got drawn into Group A, and despite their first Elite win in a convincing display against /o/ and a hard-fought but close loss to /an/, a bitter loss to the horsefucking menace of /mlp/ -- in spite of an early goal and what up to then had been an anemic display by the then-current Cup champions -- relegated the team to Spring.

To that, this writer has only one thing to say:

[THIS SECTION HAS BEEN REDACTED UNDER ADVISEMENT FROM /merit/]

2016 Spring

/vp/'s Spring campaign had one simple aim: to make it Summer like only a Pokémon master could. Bitter from Winter, they came back with a vengeance: with the assistance of former [s4s] manager DescendingBear !!BEf2wCiJp/K, /vp/ tore through Group A like a demon.

Avenging a loss from the previous Spring, /vp/ opened the cup by decisively crushing /x/ 4-1 to purify Lavender Town, moved on to defeat /b/, a pre-cup favorite to return to Summer, in a bizarre 3-2 game worthy of /b/'s master troles, then with a medal rested, shut out new team and by then fellow Summer invitee /p/ 3-0 to master race their group.

Yet the Rigger was at work. /vp/'s fated opponent in the knockouts was a solidly-built /w/ that sealed their fate with a late extra-time goal, and so commissioner abuse claimed another victim. Regardless, /vp/ had managed to not only convincingly return to the Elites, but also lay unmistakeable claim to a cup record. And as the dust settled and cries of WOW I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT FOR /m/ TO WIN AGAIN permeated the air, /vp/ prepared for the road ahead.

2016 Summer

Five years of rigging had come to this, and /vp/ was determined to secure their spot. Seeking assistance from even more people, /vp/ recruited TheWorst !!imX5RWup/L6, Remnance !!+pyOjo43iee and several testers to aid the Summer campaign. Drawn into Group C with /d/, upstart /sp/, and then-winner of the coveted Third Place Trophy /out/, /vp/ dove headfirst into battle.

Battle, however, struck back. /vp/ stalwart Miror B. saved a tense 3-3 draw against /d/, but the next game was not so kind -- /sp/, smarting from defeat against /out/, charged out to stay alive in the battle for promotion -- avenging an old, stinging upset from Autumns past. Coupled with /d/'s clean defeat of /out/ the same day, /sp/'s victory meant that /vp/ would not only need to win its final match against seemingly insurmountable Winter third-placers /out/ -- but also win big.

/vp/ needed a miracle, and a miracle was in the cards.

Depending on who you ask, it was meme magic, or it was curses locking horns -- but as the ball kicked off and /vp/ star player Fug immediately sunk the ball into the net it became clear that /vp/ was taking full advantage of its last chance to become Elite for the first time.

/out/, however, was not willing to roll over and die: two goals in response to /vp/'s three forced /vp/ to make a strange tactical decision that would soon pay off as a Digimon who had somehow managed to find his way onto the team was sent to the bench for jobbing harder than Ash's Greninja in Kalos. The results were immediate and drastic: the substitute player, >implying owls are birds, was crucial not only to assisting the flurry of goals that followed, but also to directly scoring the golden goal that put /vp/ over /sp/. As Fug sunk in one last goal to seal Group C's fate, /vp/ fans went electric -- >they had finally become Elite in what soon became the Match of the Tournament -- the product of years of suffering and perseverance.

Though /vp/ would soon follow in the footsteps of Ash's first League challenge -- a certain traitorous witch aligned with /e/ was deemed responsible for /vp/'s elimination in the knockout to follow -- /vp/ rested easy with their best performance to date, and their newfound Elite status. With Winter to look forward to, the path to the Elite Four once again remained square in /vp/'s sights.

2017

2017 Winter

As Winter loomed, so did the question hang in the air: had /vp/ been a fluke? Were miracles just miracles? Would they be, dare I say, exposed? With the sting of defeat that followed their opening loss to /b/, the answer to that question seemed all but surely to be yes.

And so the stage was set. The tides were about to turn.

/vp/ proceeded to shellack rival board /v/ and the previous Autumn's second-placer /p/ 3-0 to top their group, proving once and for all that they deserved to be Elite. Now -- if they were truly Elite, then it was not a matter of whether they could reach Victory Road -- but whether they had what it took to reach the Hall of Fame itself. So the League Challenge began.

Though /int/ had been rated by few to put up a fight after their miraculous group stage escape, it was /int/ striker Putin that would score first in the Round of 16 match to follow. But an upset was not in the cards -- after the half, Lillie would force Nebby INTO THE FUCKING NET to equalize, and island guardian Toppu Kekku would force a rebound shot at the last minute deep in the /int/ box to advance to the quarterfinals, sending /vp/ into the final day of an Elite Cup for the first time.

They would have no time to rest. Their next opponent was the previous Babby's winner, /jp/, looking to cap off their meteoric ascent to the Elites with back-to-back victory.

The ensuing struggle stopped hearts and clenched anuses: /jp/ quickly put two on the board to /vp/'s one, only to be greeted after the half with a Hyper Beam of a shot from Fug, and a free kick blooter from GET IN THE BAG that would quickly flip the table. Unwilling to concede, however, /jp/ midfielder Cirno (in her trademark blue) would counter with a deep stoppage goal to send the game to overtime and prove she was THE STRONGEST. Exhausted from their desperate comeback, /vp/ would again concede first and complete a Get out of /jp/ hat-trick, but finally, a one-two combination from Snips and GET IN THE BAG would -- unbelievably -- equalize to send the game into a penalty shoot-out. As /vp/ channeled their goalkeeper's inner mastery of the coinflip, /jp/'s shooters would miss twice to send /vp/ to the semifinals of an Elite Cup, facing /mu/ -- an all-time great, and a spectre of two Winters past.

The streak was not fated to last. Though /vp/ would strike first, /mu/ strung together four more in response to set up the Cup's first ever two-star clash.

And so /vp/ found themselves playing for third -- but who else against? None other than /sp/, who by now had turned rival from storied matches. Though stung, /vp/ thus pulled out a Sacred Ash and Funbro'd /sp/ into another round of penalties. In the ensuing choke from none other than /sp/'s eternally punished Messi and DA BURRS, /vp/ claimed not only the Third Place Trophy, but also the incontrovertible proof they needed to silence the doubts of fans, critics, and managers alike.

With a >trophy on the shelf, and their strength beyond all doubt, the winding road to the Hall of Fame seemed straighter than ever.

2017 Summer

With high hopes and determination to be the very best in Summer, /vp/ was drawn into a group with /tg/, /m/ & /sci/. In the very last seconds of a very close first half /tg/'s Doomrider scores a free goal from a free kick at 45+1. The second half was very similar, with the scoreline still being 1-0 for /tg/ at the end of the match.

/vp/ wouldn't give in so easily though, as they won their second match against /m/ 2-0.

The last match of the group stage was against /sci/, a match that would determine if /vp/ would go to the knockouts or be relegated to Autumn*. The First goal of the game was from /sci/'s captain Shinichi Mochizuki at 27', the game seemed to be in /sci/'s favor until Citizen Snips equalized the score at 70', which would be enough for /vp/ to go to the knockouts. But /vp/'s hopes of the knockouts were broken by a cheeky brace goal from Shinichi at 90'. The game ended with the scoreline at 2-1 for /sci/ who went on to the knockouts, while /vp/ was relegated to Autumn.
