2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup

The 2013 4chan Winter Cup was the sixth official 4chan Cup tournament, and the second Winter edition of the competition. The tournament took place from February 8th to February 10th, February 15th to February 17th and February 23rd to February 24th, the first cup to take place over three weekends. The cup was the last to be broadcasted in potato.

A number of teams made their debut at a top-tier competition, including /cm/, /h/, /hm/, /mlp/, /r9k/, /trv/, /vg/, /vp/, /y/, and reigning Autumn Babby Cup champions /wg/. As winners of the previous elite competition, /sp/ were the host board of this cup.

Teams that advanced to the knock-out stage of this tournament automatically qualified for the following top-tier competition. Those that failed to advance past the group stage were relegated to the Babby Cup.

This was the first official tournament to use Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 as a platform, and was the first to be run using a number of new rule changes. It was the final official tournament stream hosted by former 4chan Cup commissioner Germanbro.

/sp/ won their second 4chan Cup after a hard fought final match with /toy/, that ended 3-2. /pol/ defeated /cm/ in the third place playoff. /toy/'s Woody won the Golden Ball, and shared the Golden Boot with fellow teammate Madoka Titus and /pol/'s Stormfront.

Competitors

Thirty-two teams competed in this tournament. Sixteen of the teams qualified for the competition by means of the 2012 4chan Summer Cup, and another sixteen qualified by means of the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup.

Draw

The draw for the group stages was made on Tuesday, January 8th 2013. Teams were placed in four different pots based on seeding. Official rankings following the 2013 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies were used to rank teams. All of the highest-ranked competitors were placed in Pot 1, the next-highest in Pot 2 and so on until all four pots contained eight teams.

Impact of Dragongate

Main article: Dragongate

/cm/, /hm/, /n/, /o/, /vp/ and /y/ were retroactively disqualified from this competition for being significantly influenced by Dragonfag. Their results in this tournament were judged to be void and their opponents were awarded wins. The aforementioned teams received no ranking points for their participation in this tournament.

While Dragonfag was co-manager at /sp/, Loli's heavy involvement as live manager meant they retained their trophy and ranking points.

Statistics

/tg/ striker Creed was the first player to score a goal (and hat-trick) in the competition, in their 3-0 win against /jp/, the opening match of the tournament. /int/ goalkeeper Lazy Greek was credited with the first own goal of the tournament, in his side's 2-1 win over /sci/.

The three top scorers in the tournament had nine goals each. All of the three top scorers came from teams that finished in the top four, /toy/ and /pol/. The Golden Boot went to Woody of /toy/ who had five assists, compared to four for Madoka Titus and one for Stormfront.

254 goals were scored at the 2013 4chan Winter Cup, the third-highest of any 4chan Cup since its inception. It broke the previous record of 232, held by the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, and has since been broken by the 2015 4chan Summer Cup and 2016 4chan Winter Cup.
