Group A of the 2013 4chan Winter Cup contained /tg/ from Pot 1 (top tier holdover), /co/ from Pot 2 (top tier holdover), /jp/ from Pot 3 (top tier holdover), and /vp/ from Pot 4 (Babby Cup promotee). The group contained many notable matches: the FLGS rematch between /tg/ and /co/; yet another game between /jp/ and /tg/ (four matches in three cups); and /vp/'s long-awaited debut in the top tier of the 4chan Cup. Also of note: of the four teams created in the Second Founding after the inaugural Cup tournament, three (/tg/, /co/, and /jp/) were in this group.
Summary
Matchday 1
Technical difficulties halted the opening match between /tg/ and /jp/ at 1-1 early on. After a half-hour delay the main event kicked off once again and /tg/ wasted no opportunities as they stormed to a 3-0 win, with Creed bagging a hat-trick. Both teams showed impressive passing skills but /jp/ could only muster a single shot in the entire match, with their front line appearing very isolated.
Nigger Winner Furthremore's inability to capitalise on key chances possibly cost /vp/ a win in their match versus /co/. His first half goal was cancelled out by /co/ when The Flash passed it to Tucker, and his headed effort made it 1-1 ten minutes into the second. A draw was probably the right result based on the stats but NWF may come to rue the missed opportunities.
Matchday 2
/co/ exacted revenge on rivals /tg/ in a surprise victory. Doomrider's early goal set /tg/ on course for the likely victory but it was negated by a spectacular equaliser. The Flash had a tight-angled shot rebound off the crossbar, only for him to hit the ball on the volley, crossing it in for Tucker who obliged with the header. A daisy-cutter to the bottom right from the edge of the area and looping header to the top-right corner in the second half gave Tucker his hat-trick and sent /co/ to the top of the group.
/vp/ were left staring down the barrel of relegation after their disappointing defeat to /jp/. A well-timed run from Get Out Of /jp/ sliced through the defence and the goal was easily dispatched giving the board the lead. They never looked back from this point on, and Get Out Of /jp/ sealed the hat-trick just after the restart. A spectacular drive from Autism was the icing on /jp/'s cake, while /vp/'s injury time consolation - an own goal from sage - was little comfort for the strugglers.
Matchday 3
A tense match between /co/ and /jp/ produced no clear chances for either side for some time until Tucker blazed a shot against the post from range after twenty-four minutes. Get Out Of /jp/ stole the ball on the edge of the box to get a shot on target a few minutes later, only to have it well blocked by The Boulder. /co/ held the balance by the break though the match was largely even. Momentum shifted towards /jp/ in the second half. Armpit Miko comfortably held a header from Tucker on the line in what was /co/'s main chance of the half. Sustained /jp/ pressure eventually paid off with a late goal from Get Out Of /jp/ placed in the far lower corner of the net going in off the post. Victory secured /jp/'s advancement.
/tg/ made easy work in a match against /vp/ that initially looked to be taking an unlikely turn. Miror B's very early goal raised eyebrows but it was immediately negated with Deep Rot's screamer from 25 yards. Doomrider scored in the aftermath of a corner from close range to give /tg/ the lead. A Creed goal just before half time increased their advantage. /vp/ offered little in the second half and /tg/ eased to what was ultimately a comfortable win. Victory ensured that /tg/ would advance as group winners along with /jp/. /co/ and /vp/ were relegated to the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
