Top-ranked side and Summer Cup-holders /sp/ filled the first spot in Group F of the 2013 4chan Winter Cup. /x/ made it out of the group stage of the Summer Cup but no further. /r9k/ aimed to stay in the top tier after they finished as runners-up in the Babby Cup and /cm/ faced a challenge in doing the same as the lowest-ranked side.
Summary
Matchday 1
/sp/ and /r9k/ played out a very cagey match with several bookings. Messi's quality shone through for his goal, opting to go it alone rather than passing to the open Torres and dribbling past two, sending the ball low past White Knight. A Torres cross found the unmarked Costanza, whose diving header doubled /sp/'s lead just before half time. Shores scored late on in the second half for /r9k/ to set up a nervy ending, but good goalkeeping from Cornball protected /sp/'s lead to the finish.
An absent defence helped /cm/ to a 2-0 win over /x/. Shuu Iwamine scored their first, with Soldier Blue stealing the ball from Creepychan and crossing it into the open striker. /x/ squandered a couple of opportunities when inside the /cm/ area but Soldier Blue led a counter-attack immediately afterwards to score just before half time. /x/ were more than able to attack in numbers by running an aggressive formation but found no way through the /cm/ back line or goalkeeper Endou Mamoru.
Matchday 2
/sp/ ground out a gritty 1-0 win against a highly defensive /x/ side. Both Torres and Messi were double-marked in an attempt to neutralise the /sp/ attack. Nonetheless the match opened with /sp/ attacking relentlessly and having four shots in the opening fifteen minutes. After this the pace slowed down and the match reduced into a scrappy affair. A Phone shot whistled past the post after half an hour which was probably /x/'s best chance for a goal. The introduction of Le Ibra Face ten minutes into the second half played a pivotal role, as the winger got involved in a number of attacking moves in the second half and eventually scored himself on the volley in the six-yard box. The goal gave /sp/ the win and a total of six points to put them on course for a place in the knockouts.
/r9k/ were dismantled by the rampant /cm/. A poor challenge from Kissless Virgin gave the latter a penalty after just six minutes. Shuu Iwamine did the honours and put the ball past W.T. Snacks. Kusuriuri's deflected off of Sadfrog to put /cm/ two-up just before half time. /r9k/ were unable to find any way back into the match, and a second half brace from Soldier Blue put the result beyond all doubt. /cm/ and /sp/ secured a knockout stage berth with one game remaining as /r9k/ and /x/ were relegated.
Matchday 3
/x/ made their only two shots on target of the entire match count in their final group stage game against /r9k/. The first was a perfectly timed diving header from Phone after Urban Explorer swung in the cross from the right wing. Despite prolonged pressure to equalise, /x/'s defence was stubborn in its resistance and the Neckbears' reply only came with three minutes remaining when >tfw no gf unleashed a shot from within the D which had Great Mother well beaten. All their effort was rendered meaningless only a minute later when Lovecraft hit a placed shot from the right side of the penalty area bottom left to regain the lead and give /x/ the points.
Messi was suspended for the match due to picking up two consecutive yellow cards. In reply they opted for a conservative formation and /cm/ did the same, resting Shuu Iwamine and Soldier Blue. The match was void of a clear cut chance for either team. /cm/ looked the more likely to score amidst the scrappy play but were restricted to inconsequential shots from long range. Despite the introduction of /cm/'s gold and silver duo in the second half they had little impact on the match and it ended in an underwhelming scoreless draw. /cm/ advanced as the group winners and /sp/ finished in second place.
