Introduction

/mlp/ is a fiery, spirited team that has a loyal fanbase who cheer on the pones on their way to a Cup Championship. Coming from a board and fandom that has been shunned for their deviancy and weirdness, they band together for their love of pone through thick and thin, and the 4chan Cups are no exception. Devotion is high and cheering is loud whenever the team plays a match; a strong point that has been bolstered even further since winning the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup and the 2015 4chan Summer Cup. /mlp/ is a devoted team, with an even more devoted fanbase cheering them on.

History

The rather bizarre and unseemly sojourn into sports for a group of largely unathletic neckbeards began with a simple ambition - to spread the magic of friendship throughout the land. What was not immediately apparent was that this was to be the collection of near-menchildren that would come to dominate the league throughout the latter half of 2015 and well into 2016.

The initial demand for a scapegoat/manager for the fledgeling team was met with resounding confidence by Background Pony. Whilst his name might suggest an inability to play a significant role in the episode - and indeed, the fortunes of /mlp/ - a commanding performance as manager opened the door to a round of 16 result in the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup, the second time the team had ever managed to do so in any tournament. Remaining steady under pressure, /mlp/ scraped by against /d/ in the first round, ultimately prevailing 4-3 in a penalty shootout. A successive 1-0 victory against /fa/ and a sound thumping of /x/ 3-1 later, and Background Pony was bestowed the rare honour of commanding /mlp/ against /tv/ in its first cup final.

What followed was nothing short of a massacre. Despite scrappy play that resulted in a yellow card for Loner Cinephile of /tv/, A free kick by Alicorn Twilight produced a wonderful volley by Tracey that hit the right post and slid in '13. The advantage was nearly doubled moments later, as >rape made a decent effort to slip by the /tv/ defence with a few deft touches, but he was ultimately blocked by a comfortable clear from High Ground. The aggression continued unabated, and little more than fifteen minutes later, midfielder Best Pony took advantage of an out-of-position goalie with a long strike from beyond the box to bring the score to 2-0. By half-time, it became clear that /tv/ was out of its depth; and indeed, the only two shots they managed on goal in that half were aptly managed by Safest Hooves. The savagery continued moments after play resumed, with a fast steal by Lyra Plushie at kickoff leading to a blistering goal from >rape - and to add insult to injury, Alicorn Twilight ran a good 25 yards down the centre of the pitch, permeating the non-existent defence of /tv/ and slotting another low and to High Ground's right at 61'. /mlp/'s blistering result - one of the most one-sided finals in 4chan Cup history - earned Background Pony validation from the /mlp/ fans, the team's first trophy, and a ticket to their first real chance in the 2014 summer cup.
