/lit/ Football Club is the virtual football team of the 4chan board /lit/ - Literature. Founded January 9, 2012, it is a veteran of the 4chan Cup. Despite unsuccessful cup runs in the past, /lit/ broke into the 2015 4chan Winter Cup in a big way, earning fourth place and their best ever performance in a cup.

History
/lit/ Football Club was founded on January 9, 2012, when an anonymous /sp/ user urged the denizens of /lit/ to form a team. /lit/ played its first match shortly thereafter on February 12; a friendly against fellow debutante /pol/. The fledgling /lit/ team was completely unprepared for the aggressiveness of its opponent, and was subject to a barrage of goals from /pol/ stars Doompaul and Stormfront. The game ended 0–3 to /pol/. Utterly humiliated, /lit/ set its sight on the upcoming Babby Cup for a chance at redemption. /lit/ failed at this endeavor, however, going out with only a single point to their name, and were forced to play in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. Here, they lost 4–1 to /gif/ thanks in part to a False Dichotomy own goal before a 1–1 draw with /adv/ kept them alive. Despite winning their next match against /soc/ by a score of 2–1, they were relegated on goal differential with 4 points.
In the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup, /lit/ surprised by winning two games in a row, with a 2–1 win over rival /sci/ and 2–0 win over /f/ helping them to top their group after a 1–1 draw with /ck/ and get into the 2013 4chan Summer Cup. In the knockouts, /lit/ won 4–1 over a rigged /an/ before a 1–0 loss to eventual runner-up /tv/. The following summer, /lit/'s first Elite Cup proved a massive failure from the start, as they got bulldozed over by a powerful /v/ 7–0, losing to eventual third place winner /b/ 4–1, and getting themselves relegated in 2 games. /lit/ did somehow manage to pull /d/ down with them, thanks to a 1–1 draw.
In the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, /lit/ emulated their original Babby run, escaping with only a point to their name (from a draw against a rigged and managerless /fit/) while losing to /f/ and /gd/. In the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup, however, /lit/ seemed to be more competitive, and despite a 1–0 loss to Group E strongman /co/, rebounded for a 2–0 win over /k/. This gave them an actual chance to put old foe /pol/ in a hard place for survival, and they seemed ready to capitalize gaining a lead at 40 minutes in from a Lolita goal. However, /lit/ lost to late-game heroics on part of the eventual Babby champions, and were relegated to the 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. On the way out, they did manage a consolation point from a 0–0 draw with the now-struggling /adv/, but it was too little and too late. Despite slight improvements, /lit/ was resigned to yet another season of Babbies.
/lit/ surprised early on in the 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup; grouped with /v/, /s/, /tv/, and /adv/, their underdog run started with a 2–0 win over the team that once pulverized them 7–0, despite having a silver on the bench for the first 20 minutes. A 3–2 win over /adv/ followed shortly after, before a 0–0 draw against a futile /tv/ combined with a /s/ win over /adv/ confirmed a /lit/ advancement. The following game mattered for nothing, so /lit/ decided to not take risks, instead handing /s/ a 2–1 win. /lit/'s demise came in the knockouts, a 3–2 loss to eventual cup winner /b/. Despite this, merely qualifying for Winter was a big achievement for /lit/.
The 2015 4chan Winter Cup proved a turning point for /lit/. The team's group stage run began with a comfortable 0–2 victory against high-seeded /wsg/. In the following match, /g/ somehow weathered /lit/'s offensive barrage. The game ended 1–2 to /g/, turning /lit/'s next and final group stage match into a win-or-perish scenario. Although the odds were stacked against them, /lit/ bravely faced /vg/, the team that placed third in the previous Elite cup. The match proved to be a tough tug of war, with neither side unable to secure an advantage, before a sudden /lit/ fusillade delivered three beautiful goals in quick succession, with /vg/ unable to reply. The match ended 3–0 to /lit/, and the team advanced to its first ever Elite playoffs. Knocking out one-time cup winners /wg/ 3–0, and obliterating a strong /asp/ side 2–0, /lit/ finally fell to eventual winners /tg/ 4–1. The third place match against /ck/ was lost, avoiding the curse and securing fourth place.
Then it all went downhill from there; /lit/'s complete inability to finish in the 2015 4chan Summer Cup or 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup doomed them to a return to permababby status despite good performance. The Summer run was marked by late goals from /o/ and /i/ in mostly /lit/-controlled matches as they took a 2–2 draw to /o/ and 3–4 loss against /i/; combined with familiar foe /b/'s 6–0 anal ravaging of /i/ earlier in the tournament, this left /lit/ in a situation where they would have to either pray for a draw from the /i/-/o/ match or win by 4 goals; /o/ took a 3–1 win from /i/, effectively dooming /lit/ to relegation before they took a 1–0 win over /b/. The Autumn run started with a 1–3 loss to /c/ in a game that saw /c/ goalkeeper and eventual Golden Glove winner Ika-chan save 11 shots from /lit/, which ended up amounting to half of her saves in the cup. A decent performance against struggling autopilot /lgbt/ with a 2–1 victory got /lit/ back into the fight to advance, and it seemed nearly guaranteed that /lit/ would rebound after a 6–0 demolishing of /vp/; however, /vp/ rebounded quickly with 3–2 and 1–0 wins over /pol/ and /c/, while /lit/ once again fell to /pol/ in a 1–3 loss and tumbled back down to the Babbies.
/lit/ would resurge, however, as they had three years before, achieving promotion in the Spring, writing themselves into history on the way with a new cup record scoreline of 6–5 vs /his/. /lit/ would also set a team record winning streak of four games, after further wins vs /cm/, /o/ and /e/ before coming undone to a losing blow deep into stoppage time vs /vr/, who would go on to place second. The 2016 4chan Summer Cup looked promising for /lit/, but it was not to be; a good start with a 3–2 win over /an/ was soon undone by a 3–5 loss to /adv/, and despite finally getting a win over /pol/, /an/'s domination of /adv/ made /lit/ (along with /a/) one of the first teams ever relegated from a four-team group on six points.
/lit/'s 2016 4chan Autumn Babby Cup ended up much like their Autumn of a year ago, as bad luck and embarrassing losses to teams /lit/ have played a thousand times doomed them. A good start against /h/ was pissed away before /pol/ eliminated /lit/ in yet another derby match. The only things keeping /lit/ out of the foetus were a consolation 4–2 win over /n/ and /h/'s 5–0 drubbing of /pol/ in the previous match. However, much like in 2016, they were to rise in Spring. Despite a disappointing loss to /soc/ and their first draw since Summer 2015 against /trv/, /lit/ were finally recipients of a lucky late goal, with DFW playing his part to tie the group on 4 points. /lit/ ultimately advanced because they played out a 2–2 draw vs /trv/ rather than the 1–1 played out by /soc/ and /o/, putting /lit/ and /trv/ ahead on goals scored, while the other two teams were left to battle it out for the foetus place.

Rivalries
The Spooker Bowl Before Hiroshima landed, history and all things classical were the preserve of /lit/, but now /his/ claims the authority talk discuss philosophy, religion, law, classical artwork, ancient languages and so on, thanks to their nebulous "Humanities" label. After a long and protracted fight, /lit/ posters were able to convince Hiro to allow philosophical discussion to continue on /lit/. Filled with rage that /his/ might try and steal /lit/'s culture, /lit/ stormed to a 5-0 lead in /his/'s first ever cup game, before celebrating their victory at half time with gallons of wine and deciding to let /his/ write themselves into cup history, scoring a final goal and granting /his/ three goals just after half time. The game ended 6-5 and setting several cup records, including most goals by a losing side and most goals in a cup game. /his/ made history, but /lit/, the victors, wrote it. |

The Classy Bowl Despite the passing comment of one /lit/erati that he had "never seen a classy dyke", this remains one of the classiest rivalries in the cup. These boards hold no ill will against each other, and /u/ have a series of threads dedicated to literature. All the books they read are dreadfully pleb, as can be expected of dykes, but at least they try. These have two teams only ever met once, in the 2013 Autumn Friendlies. The match was a classy, respectable affair, with both teams dressed up to the nines, /lit/ resplendent in their Tuxes, and /u/ in a curious Japanese robe of some sort. The match ended in the classiest of scorelines; 1–1 |

The Eldritch Abominationb Owl In their darkest hour, /lit/ turned to /x/, a board with a somewhat common interest in the works of Lovecraft. An ancient scroll covered in incomprehensible symbols was retrieved from the deepest corners of the British Museum. Defying reason, the symbols turned out to be readable. A foul summoning took place on that day, in a ritual that involved the human sacrifice of former player Deep&Edgy, and also of /x/ player Lovecraft. A rift to the Outer Planes was opened, and out slithered Eldritch Horrors, Cthulhu and the Shoggoth. Their one match with /x/, in the 2014 Winter Friendlies drove the /x/ keeper, Nope, insane, as he ended the match by sacrificing the ball to David Foster Wallace, allowing him to score his first brace since /lit/'s last win over /an/, in the 2013 Spring Babby Cup. The match ended 3–0. |

The Old Flame The age-old debate will always continue about what is the superior medium. Of course, it really shouldn't, as the answer is surely self evident. Of course, those filthy plebs and autists who frequent /tv/ will beg to differ, but they unironically enjoy Game of Thrones, and therefore their opinion can be safely discarded. Nevertheless, these two teams have met three times in official matches, and /lit/ has a dreadful 0-1-2 record against /tv/. /lit/'s only release, besides obvious superiority, is their 1–0 victory over /tv/ in the inaugural Halloween Bowl, in a match which won Eldritch Horrors her place on the /lit/ team. The two teams met again in the 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, for the first time since they met in the Quarter Final of Spring, 530 days ago; this time, a pitiful 0-0 draw propelled /lit/ back into an Elite Cup, /lit/'s first in over a year and second ever. |
