Curses

Autists are a suspicious bunch, so it is unsurprising that 4chan Cup lore has numerous curses established through its history. Over the years, some have been bested, but their long-nailed fingers still extend into the black heart of pez to rig games and fulfill their sick prophecies.

Curse of the Golden Boot

The team whose player earns the Golden Boot for an Elite Cup will never win the cup itself. This curse has been broken by Cunt Destroyer in Summer 2013, Talentless Hack in Summer 2014, and Doomrider in Winter 2015.

Curse of Third Place

The team that places 3rd in an Elite Cup will fail to make the knockouts in the next Elite Cup. Note: since there was no relegation system in place until Summer 2012, Summer 2011 does not apply to this curse. This curse remains unbroken: the previously cursed team is /mlp/, who finished 3rd in Winter 2014 and failed to make the knockouts in the subsequent Summer Cup. The most recently cursed team is /vg/, finishing third in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup, and relegated by /lit/ and /wsg/ in Winter; the curse has passed to /ck/, who placed third in Winter 2015.

As of Winter 2015, the Third-Place Curse is the only major curse to go unbroken since its inception.

2012 4chan Winter Cup: /ck/ place 3rd, fail to make the knockouts in Summer 2012. However, under the Summer 2012 format, they avoid relegation.
2012 4chan Summer Cup: /m/ place 3rd, are relegated in Winter 2013.
2013 4chan Winter Cup: /pol/ place 3rd, are relegated in Summer 2013.
2013 4chan Summer Cup: /b/ place 3rd, are relegated in Winter 2014.
2014 4chan Winter Cup: /mlp/ place 3rd; are relegated in Summer 2014.
2014 4chan Summer Cup: /vg/ place 3rd; are relegated in Winter 2015.

Curse of the Babby Cup Runner-up

The runner-up of a Babby Cup will be relegated in the next Elite Cup. This curse remains unbroken: /fa/ are the latest to succumb. They finished 2nd in Spring 2014 and have been disqualified from Summer 2014. The most recently cursed team is /e/, having lost to /b/ in the 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup final. The curse has finally been broken by /e/, who advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2015 4chan Winter Cup.
