Originally a nameless BBS system on 4chan, the application to directly submit oekaki scribbles has been around almost as long as 4chan itself. Around 2004 "/ib/ - Oekaki Random" and "/ip/ - Oekaki Pro" were added to the site to give this application their own dedicated boards. Sometime during July 2008 /ib/ and /ip/ then were merged into one board which from there on would simply be known as "/i/ - Oekaki".
