Autists are a suspicious bunch, so it is unsurprising that 4chan Cup lore has numerous curses established through its history. Over the years, some have been bested, but their long-nailed fingers still extend into the black heart of pez to rig games and fulfill their sick prophecies.

Curse of the Golden Boot

The team whose player earns The Golden Boot for an Elite Cup will never win the cup itself. This curse was first broken by Cunt Destroyer in Summer 2013, and has been broken a total of 9 times.

The team that places 3rd in an Elite Cup will fail to make the knockouts in the next Elite Cup. This curse was the longest-standing unbroken curse, holding until the 2015 4chan Summer Cup, when /ck/ advanced to the Round of 16. The most recently cursed team is /k/, who were relegated to Babbies in the 2020 4chan Winter Cup after placing 3rd overall the previous Summer.

Note: since there was no relegation system in place until Summer 2012, Summer 2011 does not apply to this curse.

The curse was broken by /e/ in the 2015 4chan Winter Cup, /x/ in the 2018 4chan Winter Cup, /his/ in the 2019 4chan Winter Cup, /out/ in the 2020 4chan Winter Cup, and /mu/ in the 2021 4chan Winter Cup.

The team picked to win the cup by the random draw done at the time of group stage will fail to advance from group stage. /wg/ are the latest victims after the hat chose them to win in Summer 2020. Their relegation was confirmed in a 3-5 loss to /u/. The curse was first broken by /o/, who advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2015 4chan Summer Cup after their pick to win the cup by the hat. The righat finally made an accurate pick when /jp/ was selected by the hat to win, and did end up winning, the 2016 4chan Autumn Babby Cup.
