/g/ History
Main Article: /g/
2011-2012
In the first 4chan Cups, /g/ was a rather forgettable side with no real /g/ culture being represented. There wasn't much of a fanbase to be found in the board, but despite that, the team found a manager named Mute !!RR4RD4H7RHo. With a more proper roster, /g/ became...awful. The team could only get 3 wins in 2012, and would suffer 11 losses. In the 2012 4chan Summer Cup, /g/ turned out to be a rather unlucky side in their first two matches, choking a 1-0 lead against /a/ at the last minute, and losing 2-1 to /pol/ with an own goal. They were in a desperate mindset against /m/, and Mute's panic led to a hilariously retarded tactical change where he threw several players forward and proceeded to get blown out by /m/ 5-0, sending /g/ to the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. /g/ would participate in Autumn friendlies, but in the actual cup and since then, Mute !!RR4RD4H7RHo was inactive and for a long, long time, the team was basically without a manager and outdated as hell. So, it surprised no one to see the /g/entoomen get embarrassed by newcomers /h/ in a 5-3 loss and outclassed by /v/ in a 2-0 loss during the Autumn Babby Cup. What did surprise everyone was /g/'s 6-0 win over /ic/. This sparked arguments among viewers: had /h/ lost to /v/ after this, /g/ would have qualified for the 2013 4chan Winter Cup, and /ic/'s conditions crippled their team with the whole defense being in purple conditioning. Rigging was suspected and something had to be done. The settings for conditioning were changed after this cup.
2013
The mistimed challenge that sent /g/ straight back into the Babbies after two matches. With the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup approaching, /g/ was as outdated usual, but managed to get a friendly draw against an ambitious /po/ team that had just found new life through a new manager. In the real cup, /g/ surprised many with an upset 2-1 win over /x/ and a 1-1 draw against /diy/. All of a sudden, this outdated dead team was coming to life on its own, and then a mysterious manager came along. His name was /g/entleady !!5LZKguVKgYh, and he managed one match for /g/, lost 3-0 to /3/ and just like that, /g/ was eliminated from this Babby Cup and failed qualify for the 2013 Summer Cup. /g/entleady announced that he quit managing the team after this and was never heard from again. Following the events of Dragongate, a bunch of teams that previously failed to promote from the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup were now promoted to the 2013 4chan Summer Cup. /g/ was one of these teams, and they proceeded to get whipped left and right, with 0 points in their group. Their new manager, UselessNepgear !!fHl/yYFVg52 was off to a bad, bad start, but the team did get some sympathy from viewers who noticed that /g/ was at least trying to play better football at this time. Plus, /g/'s loss to /jp/ was caused by a last minute penalty kick for the latter team, and this, combined with the desire from some fans to see /sp/ get relegated, got /g/ some support going into their match with /sp/. But support unfortunately does always lead to good football, and thus, /g/ had to prove themselves on the pitch in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. For this season, /g/ had two managers, with Vaporwarez !!nhBW37xPA9Z becoming a co-manager. Two heads proved to be better than one since /g/ qualified to the 2014 4chan Winter Cup, but they were battered and bruised in doing so. /an/ thrashed /g/ 3-0, but due to a combination of other results, /g/'s 4 points in the group were enough to get them second place. Afterwards, /f/ cut /g/'s celebration short with a 2-0 loss for the /g/entoomen. UselessNepgear !!fHl/yYFVg52 retired just before this match, so it was up Vaporwarez !!nhBW37xPA9Z to get /g/ to survive a major 4chan cup in the next season.
2014
One of the new custom aesthetics for /g/ in the PES 2014 era included the Oculus Rift on a player named Dead Waifu Age. The 2014 4chan Winter Cup was more of the same for /g/ - aside from a win against a very shy /lgbt/ team, /g/ went back to losing matches as usual and got relegated back to the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup. This cup got /g/ to truly suffer: despite an energetic start with a 4-2 win over /3/, /g/'s form floundered in the new 5-team group format for the Spring Babby Cup this year. The offense was made to look like fools in a 0-0 draw against /r9k/ where the robots did not take a single shot in the whole match. Kerning danced around /g/'s defense in a 3-1 win for /gd/, and the 1-1 draw against /ic/ was not enough to get past the group stage. Worst of all, the few fans /g/ had were getting tired of their manager's bitching, and thus, he left the team after this cup. OMP !!YrxbeRs+PlG would become the new /g/ manager for the next two seasons. In the 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, the strangest thing happened: /g/ actually won a respectable amount of matches. This cup had /g/ beat the 2014 Winter Cup champions, /trv/. While many had predicted that /trv/ would fall off a cliff after that cup, this 4-1 win really put an exclamation mark on how far the former champions had fallen. After a predictable loss against /mlp/, /g/ bounced back with good performances in their 3 match winning streak during the cup. Unfortunately, /g/ completely shit themselves against /e/ once their match went into extra time, conceding 4 goals in a space of 8 in-game minutes.
2015
This year's Winter Cup had similar results for /g/ - 1 win, 2 losses, back to the Babby Cup. Following this, OMP !!YrxbeRs+PlG quit managing /g/, and MonsterIsland !!MqBvVf3b03t took over in hopes of getting the /g/entoomen back in a major cup.
/int/'s glory days were far behind them, and in a 4-2 loss to /g/, it was clear that those days wouldn't come back any time soon. Afterwards, /g/ faced a slight scare with a 3-1 loss to /vr/. The infamous Steve Jobs scored the consolation goal, but this wouldn't be Apple's last involvement in /g/'s goals. Terrorist Watch scored a double against /w/, and before they knew it, /g/ qualified for the 2015 Summer Cup due to having 6 points in the group, and a combination of other results. The /g/entoomen were able relax for the rest of the cup.
/g/'s hopes of competing in the 2015 4chan Summer Cup were nearly dashed when MonsterIsland !!MqBvVf3b03t retired just before Summer. However, OMP !!YrxbeRs+PlG came back, and with yet another hugely revised roster, /g/ went into Summer 2015 an underdog among the top teams. The first match of /g/'s Summer Cup was a 1-0 victory over /f/ backed by goalkeeper Common Sense, a surprise given /g/'s rather terrible previous history against /f/. The second match came with Gentoo fully installed, as he scored a hat trick and /x/'s spaghetti goalkeeper allowed new gold medal No Time For Love to score a 4th in a 4-2 victory over /x/. With 6 points through 2 matches, all /g/ needed to advance to the final round was a draw or /x/ win in the second to last Group G match. /x/ delivered with a cheeky 90+ goal to make their match 2-2, and while it seemed like /g/ would relax for the final match, any speculation about their taking this match less seriously was silenced when Audiophiles scored the first goal against /h/. /g/oalkeeping saved the day again as long-time savior Richard Stallman stopped most of a late /h/ onslaught to secure /g/'s spot atop the group.
The later rounds of the Summer Cup took /g/ to new heights as they got an upset victory over /tg/, the defending 4chan cup champions. In the quarterfinals, /g/ fucked /tv/'s shit up in a 4-1 win, and an early goal against /b/ from Audiophiles gave the /g/entoomen all they needed to get to the final against /mlp/. For a while, at least, /g/ seemed to be unstoppable due to their sharp offense and Stallman putting on great goalkeeping performances. During the first half of their fateful match against /mlp/, /g/ took the lead and were looking like they could walk away as the Summer Cup champions. Sadly, all good things must come to an end: /g/'s form finally decayed in the second half, and an unfortunate bounce of the ball led to /mlp/ getting ahead by one. From then on, /mlp/ rolled with the momentum they had and eventually won the final 2-1. While the team did not manage to put the metaphorical cherry on top of the cake, this match concluded /g/'s most successful Cup run to date and finally put them on the radar as a force to be reckoned with. Until...
2016
The cup moved into PES 2016, and this ended up turning /g/'s world upside down. As a result, the 2016 4chan Winter Cup was a disaster for the /g/entoomen, who were eliminated after just two matches in the group stage. Things were already looking bad for the team after a 4-0 loss to /s4s/, and the 2-1 loss to /gd/ combined with /r9k/'s 1-1 draw with /s4s/ killed them. Having no pressure in the next match, /g/ put on a hell of a performance in a 4-3 win over /r9k/, but it was simply too little, too late.
Down in the babbies once more, /g/ had to figure out the ways of PES 2016 sooner rather than later. The cup got off to a strange start for them with a 1-1 draw against /biz/, a team that was initially seen as a minnow in Group G. The once mighty /tg/ was up next, but they were a shadow of the team they once were, and the /g/entoomen got a 2-1 win out of that match. In order to get into the Summer Cup safely, /g/ had to win or draw against /sci/, and they got the win with Install Gentoo's early goal being all that was needed in a 1-0 victory. Following that, the round of 16 draw got /g/ to face /sp/, a familiar opponent. Though this was a chance for revenge against the GOATs who previously relegated /g/ and doomed them to the 0 point hall of shame, /sp/ was still a cut above them after all these years. Despite Install Gentoo's 11th minute goal, /sp/ didn't panic and turned the tables on /g/ to get a 3-1 win to eliminate the /g/entoomen. OMP !!YrxbeRs+PlG quit after this, and without a manager for the Summer Cup, /g/ was sent back down to the babbies.
Eventually, Narcissist !!zmsptqHmZEu became /g/'s new manager in time for the 2016 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. The group stage draw was not kind to the /g/entoomen in this season, as their opponents Group G would include giants like /tv/ and /mu/. Only /t/ seemed like a possibly easy opponent. The Big Guys from /tv/ had little trouble beating /g/ 5-2. Up next was another embarrassing result at the hands of /t/. After taking a 3-0 lead in the first half, the /g/entoomen crumbled in the second half and had to settle for a 3-3 draw. There was still some hope for a promotion despite these results: a win against /mu/ would have promoted /g/, and it looked like a real possibility after the first half of their match. /g/ had taken a 2-1 lead against /mu/, but once again, they lost the lead, and Michael Gira's 88th minute goal sealed /g/'s fate. The 3-2 loss to /mu/ kept the /g/entoomen in the babbies once again.
2017
/g/ went into 2017 4chan Spring Babby Cup under a new version of PES with new tactics and faced up against both new and old opponents in Group E. The /g/entoomen drew /w/ 1-1 and were left with 1 point. Up next was a familiar enemy, /a/ , who ruined /g/'s chances of advancing in previous cups. The midfield was the contesting ground for both teams in the first half but No Time For Love delivered a beautiful shot at the start of the second half but /a/ returned with a 74 minute goal by Bebop nearing the end of the match, it was looking over for the /g/entoomen but an amazing and stoic header from Install Gentoo won /g/ the game in the 91st minute. With a win and a draw, /g/ faced their final opponents of the group stage, /out/. /out/ scored 2 goals in the first 20 minutes but then Install Gentoo returned 3 goals over the game doing 3 miraculous things, advancing /g/ to summer and the knockouts and winning /g/ the match. The /g/entoomen went into their first knockouts match-up against /po/ levelheaded and ready, /po/ grabbed the first goal of the match only to find Install Gentoo returning back at kick-off ; Just after half-time, /po/ scooped up another goal but /g/ ferociously swung back and grabbed 2 goals to take control of the match and win. /g/ advanced to the quarter finals facing /an/, a well-performing opponent. /g/ put extreme pressure on /an/ in the first half, sieging down their defences and taking midfield control but in the second half /an/ scored 2 goals in quick succession, A goal by Install Gentoo kept the /g/ attack in swing but sadly, it was too late and /g/ fate in the 2017 4chan Spring Babby Cup was sealed. Overall, this performance was very good by /g/, Not only did this see them make it to the quarter finals but it allowed them to advance into the 2017 4chan Summer Cup.
When Summer began, /g/ was placed into Group H, with /gd/, /int/, and /co/. Their first game was against /gd/, a team they had not seen since the 2016 4chan Winter Cup. /g/ went into the game going up against a barrage of shots that kept missing the net for them. It took thinkpad to sink in a goal to get the game up 1-0 in favor of /g/. They then held onto said lead for the entire game, not even giving a chance for /gd/ to get back into the game. Up next was /co/, a team that they had not seen in ages. This was where Install Gentoo shined as a star, collecting a hat trick in a 3-0 demolition that confirmed them and /int/ into the round of 16. They had to play /int/ still, but this was to determine who would get home field and who had to go into a draw. What ensued was a game where both sides kept exchanging goals back and forth, with spaghetti all around and a 3-1 lead evaporating for /int/. It seemed like /g/ would lose said match after /int/ got the game up 4-3 thanks to Gondola collecting a hat trick, but No Time For Love headed in a goal at the 90+4 minute from a header goal. Now they would have home advantage for the knockouts. In said knockouts, they would play /toy/, a team that beat the defending baby champions /lgbt/ 4-2 in order to qualify. Right away /toy/ would strike from veteran Woody, but Programming Socks would score his second to bring it level. Then /toy/ scored two from their veteran frontline to make it 3-1 at the 61st minute. With time winding down, Install Gentoo preformed an incredible bicycle kick to bring the game within one. This, however, went to no avail as they ended up losing 3-2 from a blundered corner kick from pajeet. With Winter on the horizon, /g/ looked to what it could've been.
2018
After the events in the 2017 4chan Summer Cup, /g/ was granted entry into the Winter Cup, being in Pot 2. However, they had Managerial drama, with Narcissist !!zmsptqHmZEu getting banned for drama with co-manager Smoothie Mane !!0z3uZxZe05x. Soon came a new manager in mercurialok !!mzkcte6P0Y8, however he mysteriously vanished 3 weeks before the tactical deadline. In turn, another manager came in by the name of Giovani1906 !!KsgZllBDsow in order to ail such woes. The draw placed them in Group B reminiscent of ones of the past, with /pol/, /sp/, and the team that knocked them out last cup /toy/. Kicking off Winter under the same version of PES as last year was a game against /pol/, a team they have not faced since the early days of the cup. /pol/ quickly got on the scoresheet from Moonman, but /g/ kept their offenses down afterwards. Then Install Gentoo pulled off another bicycle kick to bring the game level, and it seemed /g/ would get at least a point out of this game. However, Moonman once again scored and gave /pol/ the go ahead goal to put /g/ in a precarious situation. Against /toy/, non medal Something Happened would put a goal to give /g/ a lead, but /toy/'s ELITE™ tactical jeans was able to bring the game 2-1 in favor of them. With relegation possible, /g/ went +2 to try and bring the game level, which they would thanks to teedus getting a goal at the 75th minute. In the end, both teams held on, and the group became 6-2-1-1 at the end of weekend. The final match was a game against /sp/, a team that tormented /g/ with games that closed away any hope they may have had of advancing to knockouts. Knowing the stakes, /g/ once again kicked off with Gentoo Installed. However, the /g/ defense crumbled and /sp/ put up two to make the matter more dire for /g/. However, Thinkpad was able to get the game level at 2-2, making it possible to have them advance if /toy/ lost or drew to /pol/. However, the game ended 2-2, and /toy/ advanced with 3 points, making them the first ever team to make the knockouts without winning a single game in their group.
/g/ headed to the 2018 4chan Spring Babby Cup with there being a return to the Megababby, with 5 teams instead of 4. In this babby, /g/ was drawn in Group E with /o/, /ck/, /po/ and newcomers /bant/. The first match was against /po/, which saw /g/ quickly gain a 4-0 lead from scoring all around. However, a late /po/ comeback with Broken Printer collecting a hat trick in the final few minutes gave /po/ life, but that was shut down in the end from stallman, ending 4-3. Next up was /o/, where it was a more defensive battle as neither side could get past each defense aside from getting one past each other. The two settled for a point, and /g/ looked healthy heading into their next game against /bant/. However, this was not what happened, where /bant/ unleashed an array of goals and even the goal of the tournament to overpower /g/, losing 4-0 to the newly founded team. However, they still had life to advance towards /ck/, and this involved beating /ck/ and hoping for /o/ to beat /bant/. They did achieve the act of beating /ck/ by a late goal from Install Gentoo, but the aftermath of the /bant/ game hurt them in the end, as /bant/ achieved the draw and went to summer, meanwhile /g/ was left out on 7 points, and finished 18th.
For the 2018 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, /g/ was back in a normal babby format, and the fear of the fetus appeared once again. Being pot 2 thanks to two teams facing their deaths before autumn, /g/ was drawn into Group E with /toy/, /vp/, and another newcomer in /aco/. Unlike their game against fellow eight founding team /bant/, /aco/ gave /g/ a battle of goaltending with both keepers being sharp and saving shot after shot. However, the game ended 0-0 and the end result was disapointment for everyone and the viewers. Knowing something had to be changed, /g/ used a 4-4-2 against /toy/, which activated their offense and got themselves goals from four of their medals, and chewing up the /toy/ defense, as revenge for summer and winter. One last team stood by, and that was /vp/. With /vp/ practically confirmed, they took it easy resting a medal. However, /g/ knew this game mattered. However, the longball siege finally struck as Tentaquil put one in early at the 30 minute mark. Then /g/ tried to claw their way back into the game, and did with Teedus getting a goal late to bring it even. In the end, Citizen Snips had the final say as /vp/ took a win against /g/ 2-1 from a 90+ goal. The promotion of /g/ held firmly with /aco/ /toy/, which was able to happen thanks to goal differential, even when /aco/ had won 4-1. The teedus goal in the end saved their ticket for winter. In the knockouts, /g/ had to play /co/, which they also were able to beat 2-1 from goals by Gentoo and Botnet. Unfortunately, the run for /g/ came to a halt when /w/ slurped their way to 0-0 benuldies, and saw Terry A. Davis choke his kick, leaving /g/ at 5th place, similar to their babby run in Spring 17. They now await the 2019 4chan Winter Cup.
2019
With the new calendar year came a familiar PES for /g/ and the rest of the cup, as /admin/ had decided PES16 would be used for the 2019 4chan Winter Cup in what was a grim reminder that scoring goals is fun. Drawn into Group B, /g/ would be up against stiff competition with /f/, /h/, and /sci/ coming to play. /sci/ had finished 6th in the 2019 4chan Summer Cup, /h/ was retuning elite as well, and /f/ was always a wild card. /g/ opened their tournament run with what would be the quintessential PES16 game with an 8-6 win over /sci/ in a barnburner of a match, the teams combining to break the record for most combined goals in a game, and /g/ tying the record for most goals for one team in a game. While they won their first game in what may have also been the longest game of PES of all time, they would next have to play the team that won the other game in the group, /f/. After scoring 4 goals in the first game and going into halftime 0-0, Install Gentoo knew what he had to do. Fighting hard in the second half going back and forth with goals, Install Gentoo would pull off a second hat trick in the 90th minute, capping the game and scoring his 7th goal in 2 games, and also securing /g/ a spot in the knockout stage and a spot in the 2019 4chan Summer Cup. In their last knockout match, /g/ was cruising for most of the game in a tight game looking for mustard, but it would be denied in stoppage time by the Faceless Fatguy, a draw that /g/ could accept as they would top the group with 7 points and an offense that couldn't be stopped. Proving to be the most important signal in /g/'s thinkpad, Install Gentoo tied the cup record for goals in group stage by a player with 9 goals in 3 games. In the knockout stage, /g/ would be paired against [s4s]. Their first real challenge made it very apparent that they weren't playing around, /g/ found themselves down 1-3 at 51' and it was time to panic. While Install Gentoo would get one back quicky at 54', /g/ still needed a goal if they wanted to win their first star. Time went on and went on, and just when hope seemed lost and /g/ were going home, Install Gentoo stole the ball and sank the shot to send the game to eggsdra diem. [s4s] and /g/ traded goals midway through eggsdra diem, and with the game tied at 4, Topkek would end /g/'s cup hopes with a late goal at 117'. While the team looked dominant in group stage, PES16 proved no team was immune to PESing, and /g/ would have to try again in summer.
/g/ would move onto the 2019 4chan Summer Cup and with it came new challenges, both from the PES version used and new opponents. The teams /g/ would play were /vg/, /h/, and /lit/; /vg/ were noted powerhouses, /h/ were familiar foes, and /lit/ had gotten in as the 17th placed team lucky enough for some team (in this case, /3/) to get culled. In addition, it would be the first elite cup played on PES18; a game that had shown to be incredibly boring to watch and favoring defensive play. All that said, there were definitely new challenges that /g/ would face in this cup. With these new challenges, /g/ would try new tactics in hopes to find a new way to win, using a questionable >nonmedal CF hoping Ballmer could score enough while /g/ defended other teams well enough. The first match proved to be a difficult one as even the refs proved to be not only against /g/, but also iPhone enthusiasts as they would show a rare yellow card to iToddlers BTFO. While the rest of the match was as sleepy as any other match against /lit/, Install Gentoo would yet again save /g/ at the 76th minute with a match typing goal, and the game would end shortly after that. While they were able to get the draw, /g/ couldn't help but feel they could have won as they got plenty of shots off, but failed to convert. Going into the second day of group stage, all the teams in the group were tied at 1, and /g/ had a chance to make a statement game against /vg/ while all the teams were still within reach. Starting with a 3-6-1, /g/ would try to pack the midfield full of players so /vg/ couldn't get their game going, but alas it would be all for not as /vg/ would score at 38', immediately triggering changes from /g/ to make subs and switch to a 4-5-1. While nothing would continue to happen for a while, /vg/ would score again late in the 2nd half with seemingly no answer from /g/. However, Terry A Davis would get a feel-good goal in the 90th minute, as /g/ would still lose the match but retain some pride against the dominant /vg/. Going into the last match against /h/, /g/ would need to win and hope /vg/ lost later in the day to /lit/, as beating /h/ by 4 seemed impossible for this team, as they had not really gotten a consistent offense going this cup. Right off the bat and for the third match of group stage, /g/ would go down to start the match, this time being at the 3rd minute. Time went on and /g/ was getting really battered on stats, going into halftime without a single shot on target. Going into the second half hoping things would swing back, it was quickly apparent that they wouldn't, as /g/ would end up painfully losing 1-3 with their only goal coming from Terry A Davis, a large fall from grace for /g/ as the team would get relegated to the babbies on just 1 point, and /g/ would finish 26th in the cup, the same place they would finish in the 2018 4chan Winter Cup. /g/ had a tumultuous crash out of the cup not without drama, as manager gio !!up/5f4cJvZ6 said he would be retiring if /g/ got relegated to the babbies early in the cup, however he would opt to stay on the team as manager hoping for better luck in the 2019 4chan Autumn Babby Cup.
/g/'s next challenge would be in the 2019 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, coming in as Pot 2 against relatively strong autopilot /jp/, the recently improved /a/, and the spring wooden coathanger "winner" /fa/. Their first match would be against /fa/, and /g/ controlled the game for the entire first half yet failed to come up with a goal, getting a barrage of shots and maintaining possession but only getting a kapow. While they controlled much of the second half as well, it would be /fa/ that scored late to steal the game straight from /g/'s repository. Down on their luck, /g/ looked to get points from /jp/, who drew their first match to /a/ on a stoppage time goal. However, /g/ needed to not lose if they wanted to stay alive in the group, and a loss resulting in a second groupday exit for /g/ would be devastating for them. Sure enough, that's exactly what would happen, as /jp/ scored 3 goals in the first half, as well as SICP scoring an own goal (Sussman and Abelson you hacks) to put /g/ down 0-4 at halftime. While /g/ knew that it was basically over, they turned to the last thing they knew to do, as Install Gentoo would score a brace in the second half to make up for the game, and /g/ would be eliminated from the Babby Cup on their second matchday. While it was sad for /g/ that they would miss the upcoming elite cup, they had to stay focused and focus on the next match, as they could play the spoiler against /a/, who needed to win and by a lot if they hoped to advance into the knockout stage. /g/ unveiled a formation made specifically to defend against /a/'s counter attacks, but something fairly unusual happened; instead of slurping which was the plan, /g/ actually looked like they could win this match. Botnet snuck one past the /a/ keeper as the game began, and Install Gentoo pounded one in as well to go to halftime 2-1, their first halftime lead in 2 cups. Install Gentoo would pick up his second brace of the tournament at 49', proving /g/ would be going down with a bang instead of a whimper. With another goal from Terry A Davis, /g/ would end up denying /a/ the chance to make the elites, as well as going out with a win to their team and finishing at 20th place, much better than what was thought would happen before the day began. While it was a disappointment overall, /g/ proved they still had some fight left and spoiled what may have been /a/ finally making the elites again. Shortly after the cup, it was made official that sole manager gio !!up/5f4cJvZ6 would be retiring from /g/ management, citing lack of interest in the board.
