/vm/ History
2021
World Cup 21
As a new team, there's no better feeling that starting with a bang, shocking your audience, putting on a show but most importantly, not disappointing the people that put their support on you. Thankfully that was the case with our first match against /k/, which ended on a high energy 2-2 draw, both goals being scored by our star player phoon, result that only undermined the glory /vm/ was destined to. Our first win came out the very next match against a relentless /c/ that was extremely hungry for a big blowout result, but little did they know that there was a big wall that went by the name of DELETE THIS, saving 8 of 10 shots on target and only allowing 1 goal in, which helped our team to get a VERY IMPORTANT 2-1 win, goals by phoon and our Captain Gregor, putting us at the top of the group by week 2. The last match of groups was a very emotional and nostalgic one against /f/ on their brand new home stadium. With /c/ winning their match against /k/ earlier, our team would top the group on a win and get by in 2nd place with a draw, but losing would mean an early 3rd place exit, which thankfully didn't happen. An early goal by Gregor would put our team on the driver seat for about 80 minutes until lolicatgirls, /f/'s lead scorer and Gold player, answered back and brought the match back to even. The match would end on a 1-1 thriller, which allowed our team to get 2nd place and reach the knockout stage, a result only two of the four newcomers would get to achieve.
As 2nd placers, our team had to be assigned an opponent out of the hat, and lady luck decided that our Round of 32 match would be against no other than /m/ on what everyone denominated The /m/vm/ Bowl. After a very sleepy 1st half and 4 saves by our starting keeper DOOR STUCK, phoon with help of brb smoke break and Random Crits are Fair and Balanced scored a brace, allowing our team to come out on top, win 2-0 and get to the Round of 16, where /c/ wanted to take another stab at us and retake their pride. After an early goal by Hamachi at the 7' minute, the biggest clown shoes match took place on both sides of the pitch. With another stellar performance by our keeper DOOR STUCK and /c/'s strikers not being able to finish their shots properly, /vm/ took a 1-0 victory home, a result that would cement our team between the best 8 teams in the most important tournament yet in the history of the 4chan Cup.
Our next match was against /b/, a team that was known in this tournament for being very high scoring, not having lost a single match up to this point. Despite the D-Boys blessing on the pitch and everyone's best efforts, our team got shut down completely and our cinderella run came to an end on a 1-3 result, rewarding us with a shared 7th place with previous Elite Cup winners /n/. With mixed opinions on the team's performance and nothing but everyone's praises for our aesthetic efforts, we now are heading out to Autumn, where our team must show that the World Cup's performance wasn't just an "one off".
Autumn 21
It was a one of! Sadly for everyone involved, our Autumn campaign was nothing short of "outstandingly bad", getting the 35th place out of 40 boards and 2nd worst vidya team in the competition. Our team started losing 5-2 against World Cup Champion /s4s/ while giving away the first 9.0 in 5 years. Our 2nd match had a better prospect, beating /bant/ 3-1 with some Halloween magic, but while we were celebrating, /toy/ and /x/ quickly deflated our spirits and took away our joy, defeating us 3-2 and 3-0 respectively and eliminating our team from any chances of being Elite. It's been 6 months since then, so what does the future hold for /vm/? Better ping and scores, we hope.
2022
Spring 22
/vm/'s 2nd attempt at a Megababby would go much better than the previous one in Autumn 21, although not without a rocky road. /vm/ was put into Group D, with the first match to be played against /bant/. Although BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS scored just a few minutes into the match, Hamachi and phoon scored at 20' and 43' respectively for /vm/ to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. /bant/ came out fighting in the 2nd half with a goal from Leaf Girl at 57' to tie it...for about 20 minutes before Bantanna would score their already 2nd Own Goal in the early days of the tournament. This blunder would give /vm/ a boon to score another 2 goals from I'M ACCELERATING and D-Boys to close the match out 5-2. Group Stage match 2 would be against /vt/, where /vm/ would be outplayed for most of the game. This was their weakest game of the tournament, only being able to muster a single goal from D-Boys at '60 to keep the game from being a clean sheet. In the end, the team had conceded a 4-1 loss to the eventual winners of the group, but /vm/ weren't done yet. The next penultimate group match would be played against /vg/, one of the "big brother" vidya teams in the cup. After some back and forth play to open the game, AMOGUS broke the ice with a goal at 28', and then phoon tallied a 2nd at 43' before /vg/'s fumika xD scored in added time before the half. /vg/ fought hard in the 2nd half but couldn't find an equalizer as Hamachi put the game away with a goal at 78' to take a 3-1 victory for /vm/. The team's destiny was in their own hands heading into the final group match against /trv/. With /vg/ drawing in their final group match, all /vm/ had to do was not lose. AMOGUS would open the scoring only to be immediately answered by Sex Tourist. phoon would score at 21' and help the team carry a 2-1 lead into the half, before Sex Tourist once again had an answer. The game was locked at 2-2 until /vm/ benefitted from a second Own Goal in the cup, this time coming at 62' from Cringelord Miles. Sex Tourist would once again equalize with his hat-trick goal, but D-Boys would put the game away at 70' 4-3. This win would promote /vm/ to their first ever Summer elite cup, but they weren't done quite yet. /vm/ was drawn to face /cm/ in the Round of 16, which turned out to be the most boring, semen slurping match of the day. /vm/ lost 1-0 and were eliminated, but they had the elites to look forward to...
Summer 22
In /vm/'s first elite cup, it was immediately made apparent that it would not be easy. Drawn into Group A with not only the winner of Spring, but also the defending elite champions, /vm/ was going to have a rough go. The first match would be against 2022 Spring Babby Cup champions /gd/, where they would be outclassed the whole game, dropping a 3-0 decision. The second group match wouldn't be much better, facing an /an/ team that was much better than expected. AMOGUS was able to open the scoring at 9' but the game was over by halftime after BIRB and >outdoor cat scored 3 collectively to take a 3-1 lead. After 2 games, /vm/ had already been relegated back to Autumn, but there was one game left to play. Defending elite champions /biz/ had already put themselves through to winter, so both teams agreed to a meme match where both teams ran 2-3-5 formations. This resulted in most likely THE most horrendous match of 7 niggas forward that has ever occurred. Both teams traded a single goal and held it there all the way until 86' where D-Boys broke the deadlock. Truly, an absolutely abhorrent match, never to be played again. /vm/ would have to pick up the pieces heading into Autumn
Autumn 22
It was back to the drawing board as the 4CC decided to ban the 3-4-3 formation from competition, now the playing field was reset and there wouldn't be a flood of same-looking exports. /vm/ was once again drawn into Group A, this time with less-stiff competition. The first match would be against /aco/, where the the two teams would fight pretty close for most of the match, but while /aco/ was unable to break through, /vm/ tallied two goals from phoon at 22' and from newly anointed silver medal 300 Ping at 58'. /vm/ would hold that 2-0 lead until the end of the game, putting themselves in the driver seat from day 1. The second match was against a much tougher /int/, who were able to shutdown /vm/'s attack and dismantle the team's defence. /vm/ ended up dropping a 4-0 decision, which although hurt their chances, still kept fate in their own hands. The last match would be against /his/, who were also in a "win and in" position, where a draw would favor them. This was a must win for /vm/ to promote. Just 10 minutes into the match, >Holy>Roman>Empire opened the scoring, but /vm/ would answer just 11 minutes later with a goal from the other new silver medal, G-TEK. /vm/ would take the lead 2-1 with a goal from phoon at 39' to take a lead into the half. Both teams would go back and forth throughout the rest of the game, with /his/ pushing hard for the equalizer. In the end, /vm/ was able to hold the narrow lead, winning the game and punching their ticket to the Winter elite cup. In the Round of 16, the team was drawn with /tg/, where longtime striker Doomrider made history by scoring a Hattrick in what would include his 100th career goal. Although D-Boys would put /vm/ on the board at 65', they would ultimately fall 3-1. With their first ever Winter Elite cup on the horizon, the team looks ahead. Does good fortune await the team in 2023? We only have to wait and see...
2023
/vm/'s first Winter Cup saw the team return to form with a fairly successful tournament. The team was drawn into Group H and would start off facing Winter 2022 champions /biz/ in their first real match. It would be a scrappy game, as BOGGED and D-Boys tallied goals at 25' and 41' respectively, but would ultimately end in a draw. The next game would be against /x/ where /vm/ would show its offensive potential. D-Boys opened the scoring just 3' into the game, and while Christcuck answered just 8 minutes later, D-Boys, phoon and G-TEK would each score a goal after that to put /vm/ up 4-1 for the victory. The team entered the final group stage game against /co/ with a simple task: Just Don't Lose Lmao. Things looked good at first, as phoon scored a brace to open the scoring early at 4' and 17', but things started to look hairy as Doom scored just before the half to cut /vm/'s lead to 1 goal. At 52' Doom would score the equalizer, and after /co/ picked up some momentum, Carl Brutananadilewski would put it in at 70' for /co/ to take the lead at 70'. Things looked bleak, but after a quick huddle near the end of the game, G-TEK would be given a through-ball pass at 89' and score to even the game at 3-3. With the draw, /vm/ had punched their ticket to the knockouts, and a 6 month vacation until Summer. But there was some unfinished business to take care of...
In the Round of 16, /vm/ would be drawn with its Grandfather vidya board, the one and only /v/. As the defending elite champions, /v/ were sure to be tough opponents. Knowing this, team silver medal G-TEK decided to drink an entire bottle of Pennzoil before the match to great effect. With the help of D-Boys, /vm/ would explode to a 3-0 lead after G-TEK scored a brace in the opening half. /v/ pushed for a comeback as both Dante and French Ethnic Slurs both scored before the half to bring it back to 3-2. However, /vm/ took over again in the 2nd half, as D-Boys and G-TEK would once again score another one and two goals respectively for /vm/ to surge to a 6-2 win. /vm/ would eliminate the defending champions as the youngest vidya board triumphed over the oldest, and they would be off to the final day in the quarterfinals. Their quarterfinal opponent would be none other than the scurvy menace /t/, who had proven themselves to be a tough team, managing to be just barely better than most of their competition so far. They showed it again in this game, as while /vm/ did their best to hold off /t/ as well as push for a goal themselves, the game was decided by a 54' goal from >uTorrent. /t/ would go on to be runner up to the eventual winners /vst/, /vm/'s blood brother and close ally. The team looks forward to challenging their /v/alkan brethren in the 2023 Summer Cup...
