Major Rivalries
- Cancer Derby: /b/ vs. /v/ - /b/ and /v/ are 4chan's two biggest and most notorious boards. Both have tasted some success in their time, having both finished in the top four of an Elite cup. The teams first met in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, which /b/ won 4-3. The two teams met again TWICE in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup. /v/ claimed a 1-0 victory in the group stage, but /b/ would win the third place playoff match 3-1, featuring the infamous No Fun Allowed own goal. They would not meet again officially for three and a half years, where they fought out a hilarious 2017 4chan Winter Cup match involving TWO penalties, with /v/ winning 2-1.
- El Clásico: /a/ vs. /sp/ - The GOATs of the West, versus the Titans of the East. Arguably the biggest rivalry in the cup, both boards have been at each other's throats in the past. /a/ likes to wander into /sp/ territory and announce their presence, while /sp/ invades their weeaboo rivals to steal a few big GETs. Both boards never left each other through every cup they played, until the 2017 4chan Winter Cup, when /a/ were Fetused and /sp/ moved on to the elites. During those five and a half years, the teams were considered to be "Together Forever", and /sp/ were so happy to finally break the shackles. On the pitch, it's a one-sided affair: /a/ have won all three matchups: A win on penalties in the 2011 4chan Summer Cup, a 1-0 victory in the 2014 4chan Winter Cup knockouts, and a 2-1 win in the 2015 4chan Spring Babby Cup. /sp/ did win in a friendly against /a/, but who cares?
- Old Firm: /a/ vs. /b/ - When 4chan was still young, /b/ was known as Anime/Random during the website's first few months. Now, with both boards being huge on 4chan, there's also a real rivalry between the two. Kaiji's own goal contributed to a 2-1 /b/ win in the 2012 4chan Winter Cup, followed by /a/'s humiliating 6-1 defeat in the 2015 4chan Spring Babby Cup. /a/ finally fixed their shit in the 2016 4chan Winter Cup, defeating /b/ 1-0 in a match that meant absolutely nothing.
Similarity Rivalries
Note: Some aren't "rivalries" according to the team pages, but are there anyway.
- Artbowl: /gd/ vs. /ic/ - /gd/ often wonders if graphic design is art. Is vaporwave "art"? Are aesthetic designs "art"? Is creating a font an art? It doesn't matter, /ic/ thinks it's shit. The teams first met in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Qualifiers, which ended in a 2-2 draw. /gd/ would claim the first victory, a 1-0 win in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup, but crashed down to Earth with a 2-0 loss in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies.
- >Artbowl/GOATslayer Derby: /gd/ vs. /i/ - A rivalry that is more remembered for the fact that both teams did their part to keep /sp/ down in the Babbies, it has yet to be played, although an unofficial match in the 2015 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies ended 4-4.
- Beta Bowl: /adv/ vs. /r9k/ - The only time /r9k/ ever goes to /adv/ is when they're playing an away match at the Advice Dog Arena. Both teams faced each other in the 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup Friendlies and the 2012 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies, with /adv/ winning both games convincingly. Both teams had an issue going into their quarter final matchup in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup: They both had Beta As Fuck playing for them. The /adv/ centre-forward and the /r9k/ right back ended up encountering each other several times during the game, which lasted 120 minutes and featured no goals, with /r9k/ winning the shootout. /r9k/ finally leveled the series at 2-0-2, beating /adv/ 2-1 in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
- Blazing 10's Yolobowl: /f/ vs. /wsg/ - Like /gif/, /f/ also loves /gif/'s non-porn-enthusiast little brother in /wsg/. While they haven't met in a cup, the two have met in friendlies: A 4-2 win to /wsg/ in the 2014 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies, and a 1-1 draw in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies.
- Celebrity Derby: /hr/ vs. /tv/ - Both boards love celebrities, but with a slight difference: /hr/ dedicates threads to posting huge pictures of them, while /tv/ forgets that there's more to a celebrity than just her feet. The record is currently in /tv/'s favor: /tv/ won 3-0 in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, followed by a 2-1 win in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies. /hr/ finally broke through with a late 2-1 win in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, followed by a late 1-1 draw in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
- Critic Derby: /i/ vs. /ic/ - /i/ and /ic/ differ on how art should be. Should it be a way of expressing your creativity on a blank canvas without restraints or limits, or should it be a serious devotion with no fucking around? Since the teams haven't played each other yet, we won't know for sure.
- Degenerate Derby: /hm/ vs. /lgbt/ - One board posts the extremely attractive twinks, bears and huge dicks, the other is SFW and isn't just for gay men. /lgbt/ have won both matches so far: a 2-0 win in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies, and a crushing 5-2 win in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
- Der Übermensch Derby: /int/ vs. /pol/ - This rivalry dates back to before the cup, when moot decided to delete
Stormfront/new/. Angry /new/ users flooded into /int/ as a result and remained there until /pol/ was made. The teams have met just once: a 2-0 win to /int/ in the 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup semi-final.
- Dress-up Derby: /cgl/ vs. /fa/ - On one side, you have cosplays, cosplay advice, shitty cosplay, good cosplay and Elegant Gothic Lolitas. On the other side, you have hipsters, dickheads and losers in skinny jeans and loafers with fags in their mouths, having the gall to laugh at your jeans and autism sneakers. Both teams met each other in the Spring, Summer and Autumn friendlies of 2012, all ending in draws. It wasn't until the 2013 4chan Summer Cup that the deadlock was broken: a 1-0 win to /cgl/. Now, both teams are dead, and they're probably not going to play another derby again.
- Edgelord Derby: /his/ vs. /pol/ - For years, /new/ and later /pol/ were infested with right-wing edgelords, stamping out any discussion of history. It took years, but Hiro woke up and finally created /his/. /pol/ may occasionally invade the board, but it's the only time the two boards have met so far.
- Family Feud: /co/ vs. /mlp/ - With the sheer amount of pony spam ruining /co/ between 2010 and 2012, moot decided to fix the issue and give the horsefuckers a containment board. /co/'s tumor is doing well in this rivalry, drawing 2-2 in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies and winning 2-1 in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup.
- Gay Off Derby: /hm/ vs. /y/ - For both boards, it's gay porn, but one board prefers an extra dimension to it. A voided match from the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies ended 1-1, but /hm/ currently leads with a 2-1 win in the 2014 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies.
- Hentai Derby: /d/ vs. /h/ - There's hentai, and then there's different hentai. While the two teams faced off in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies and the 2013 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies, it wasn't until the 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup that the Rig Hat drew them together for the Round of 16. /h/ claimed the bragging rights, winning 2-1.
- Kawaii Bowl: /c/ vs. /cm/ - While both teams have seen better days in the past (/cm/ being dead, for example), these two teams enjoy a rivalry. /c/'s first goals in their history came in their fifth ever match, against /cm/ in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. While /cm/ did win 3-2, the match was voided because of Dragongate. The rivalry remains locked at 0-1-0, as both teams played out a 2-2 draw in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies
- Photographic Playoff: /hr/ vs. /p/ - Does this even count? No fans, one team is dead and they've never played each other. Oh well.
- Renders vs. Rasters: /3/ vs. /gd/ - There's not enough room for these dimensions. You either keep the 3D, or you drop one dimension and go to superior 2D. /3/ actually holds 1-0-1 record with /gd/, having beaten them 2-1 in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup to snap an eleven game losing streak. /3/ weren't so lucky in the 2015 4chan Spring Babby Cup, playing a 4-1-5 meme formation and losing 1-0 in the biggest slurpfest of the group (until they drew 0-0 with /tv/).
- Robot Rumble: /m/ vs. /r9k/ - What is the best kind of robot? The huge metallic mechas fighting in outer space, or the supreme gentlemen in his car, filming himself before he shoots up a school? There may be just one that chicks dig, but the rivalry remains even: 1-0-1. /r9k/'s successful 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup campaign started with a 1-0 victory over /m/, but were back to screeching autistically with a 2-1 loss in the 2017 4chan Winter Cup.
- Sauce Bowl: /f/ vs. /gif/ - Both boards have a love for animation, and both boards have a love for the sauce. While a 0-0 draw in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies got the rivalry off to a poor start, a 4-1 win for /f/ in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies signaled their early dominance.
- Sports Derby: /asp/ vs. /sp/ - Both boards were at each other's throats for a while, as wrestling continued to plague /sp/ despite the rules indicating that it belonged on /asp/. That is, until Hiro stepped in and decided to enforce that rule, exiling the mandramafags to /asp/ for good and adding "& Wrestling" to their board name. /sp/ retains a 2-0-0 record against their alternative cousins, with a 1-0 win in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies and a 3-1 win in the 2017 4chan Winter Cup quarter final.
- Uriaoi Bowl: /u/ vs. /y/ - What is the superior gay anime genre? Yuri or yaoi? Currently, it's quite even, with a 1-0-1 record. /y/ established their early dominance with a 1-0 win in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies (later voided). /u/ returned the favor, winning 1-0 in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies. So, with that voided match, maybe /u/ is the dominant one...
- Vidya Bowl: Any two of /v/ , /vg/ , /vp/ and /vr/ - One main vidya board and it's been split three times. All four managed to make it to the 2017 4chan Winter Cup knockouts, cementing vidya as a stronghold in the cup. /v/ leads /vg/ 2-0-1 in official matches, /vp/ leads /v/ 2-0-1 (1-0-1 if you don't count a voided match), /vg/ leads /vp/ 2-0-1 (1-0-1 if you don't count a voided match), /vg/ and /vr/ are tied at 1-0-1, and /vp/ and /vr/ are tied at 1-0-1. /v/ and /vr/ are yet to play an official match. All four teams also get to compete against each other in the Vidya Bowl
- Wallpaper Derby: /w/ vs. /wg/ - Though /w/ was around for a long time, it wasn't until the 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup that they finally started playing. And in good time too, because /wg/ had just been relegated and been put in the same group as them. /w/'s first win would come against their NSFW rivals, miraculously overturning a 2-1 deficit with just minutes left. After /wg/ fucked up with the tactical export in the 2017 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies, /w/ absolutely killed them, winning 11-1.
- WebM Derby: /gif/ vs. /wsg/ - /gif/ was originally the only board where GIFs could be posted, until it was decided that a worksafe alternative should be provided. Thus, /wsg/ was made. With the implementation of WebMs (WITH SOUND), the GIF is slowly losing its grip on 4chan. /gif/ currently holds a 1-0-0 record, with a 3-2 win in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies.
- Weeabowl: /a/ vs. /jp/ - With so much Touhou plaguing /a/ many years ago, moot decided that enough was enough and exiled the superweebs out to a new board: /jp/. We can all agree that /jp/ is the superior board in every way, and it shows on the pitch: /jp/ defeated /a/ 2-0 in the 2016 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. /jp/ won the cup. /a/ went to the Fetus.
- Wheels Derby: /n/ vs. /o/ - It's trains against cars and Yowamushi Pedal against Initial D. However, it doesn't matter if you announce your love for trains, or if you drift around the corners while loud Eurobeat plays on the radio, because all three matches between the two teams have been voided, thanks to Dragonfag. For the record, /n/ dominated the rivalry: A 5-1 win in the 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup Friendlies, a 2-1 loss in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies, and a 4-1 win in the 2013 4chan Winter Cup.
Other Rivalries
- Alpha Derby: /fit/ vs. /sp/ - /fit/ and /sp/ are undeniably the most alpha boards on 4chan. The rivalry remains locked at 1-1-1, starting with a 2-0 win to /sp/ in the 2012 4chan Winter Cup. They would draw 2-2 in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies (a match that has been voided), and did not meet again until the 2017 4chan Winter Cup semi final, which /fit/ would win 1-0.
- Blood-Related Bowl: /a/ vs. /h/ - Both early boards in the history of 4chan, they have had a minor incestual relationship for the last 14 years. /a/ crushed /h/ 6-1 in the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup Friendlies, but were defeated 2-1 in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies. They later met in the group stage of the very same cup, drawing 1-1.
- Cancer Derby Jr.: /b/ vs. /soc/ - /soc/ was excised as one of /b/'s more annoying tumors a long time ago. Even then, /soc/ still has a presence on /b/ and will not leave, resulting in a cancerous rivalry that is even at 1-1-1. The teams drew 2-2 in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, followed by a 2-0 /b/ win in the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup Round of 16, and a 2-1 /soc/ win in the 2014 4chan Winter Cup. The teams have had history dating back to the 2011 4chan Summer Cup, when Germanbro tried to rig /b/ to finish last. It failed and /soc/ ended up wooden spooning.
- Check Bowl: /lgbt/ vs. /s4s/ - Both boards enjoying checking things, but what they check is different. If you're on [s4s], you check dubs. If you're on /lgbt/, you check your privilege. Both teams exited the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Qualifiers as the best teams, drawing 1-1. /lgbt/ holds the advantage so far, with a 2-1 win in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies.
- Crashing the Colony Derby: /an/ vs. /m/ - Both teams are involved with colonies. The first encounter between the two, from the 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, ended 6-2 in /an/'s favor, where six goals were scored in the last ten minutes. /m/ leveled the record at one win a piece, with a 5-3 win in the 2016 4chan Summer Cup.
- Cute Touhou Derby: /c/ vs. /jp/ - Both boards enjoy Touhous. /jp/, a little too much. They've still not played each other in an official match yet.
- Dicks Derby: /d/ vs. /y/ - Both boards love the dick, but when it comes to which gender should have the dick...well, it's not pretty. The argument still remains as the teams have not faced each other yet.
- Flash Derby: /f/ vs. /mlp/ - A rivalry that extends all the way to the Mexican weed man running the /f/ team, /f/ suffered thanks to the Flash animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This hatred has fueled their dominance in the rivalry: Though it started with a 1-0 loss in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies, /f/ bounced back with a 2-1 win in the 2013 4chan Spring Babby Cup Friendlies and a 2-0 win in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup.
- FLGS Bowl: Any two of /co/ , /m/ , /tg/ and /toy/ - All four boards enjoy a lovely time at the Friendly Local Game Store. Historically, the rivalry was a /co/ and /tg/ matchup, but /m/ and /toy/ have since joined as secondary rivals. /co/ and /tg/ currently have a 2-0-2 record (featuring the famous 5-5 draw from years gone by), /co/ leads /toy/ with a 2-0-0 record (featuring >THE FLUSH), /m/ leads /co/ with a 1-1-0 record, /toy/ leads /tg/ with a 3-0-1 record, /toy/ and /m/ are tied with a 2-0-2 record, and /m/ leads /tg/ with a 2-0-0 record. All four teams competed in the FLGS Cup II, with the first iteration being a /tg/-/co/ only experience.
- Hipster Derby: /fa/ vs. /mu/ - Aside from vegans, hipsters are some of the most insufferable people on the planet, and /fa/ and /mu/ are Hipster Central. On one side, you've got the dickheads, and on the other side, you've got the people who constantly redefine "plebeian taste". As of now, they haven't played each other yet.
- IT'S TWO! Derby: /gd/ vs. /sp/ - A minor meta-rivalry formed after their only matchup: /gd/'s miraculous 2-0 win in the 2014 4chan Summer Cup was just enough to relegate /sp/ for the first time in their history, and also meant that /gd/ stayed in the elites for the first time.
- Left vs. Right: /co/ vs. /pol/ - /co/ has been hit with a major case of Tumblritis and the SJW flu in the past few years, which means that the board has been suffering from what /pol/ likes to call "a mental illness". /pol/ of course, is right in two ways, but it is /co/ that currently leads the rivalry: A 2-1 win in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup, a 1-0 loss in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup (featuring the well-circulated Jews video) and a 2-1 win in the 2015 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
- Mental Illness Derby: /lgbt/ vs. /pol/ - /pol/, being the far-right supporters they are, hate the mentally ill LGBT community with a passion. /lgbt/ remains undeterred, continually forcing the cringy /polgbt/ series onto their rivals. The teams have a 1-0-1 record so far: /lgbt/ crushed /pol/ 4-1 in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, thanks in part to Hitler denying a goal to the Jews. With Trump on the rise, /pol/ were able to steal victory on the second try, winning 3-2 in the 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup.
- Monochrome Derby: /fa/ vs. /p/ -
You're not a photographer just because you take black and white pictures of random objectsBLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY REALLY MAKES YOU THINK. Meanwhile, the /fa/ggots have adopted the Rick Owens philosophy: Color distracts, monochrome rules. Since /fa/ is dead, the rivalry may remain at a 0-0-0 record forever.
- No Fans Derby: /ic/ vs. /wsg/ - Why this is specifically the No Fans Derby, I will never know. It should be renamed to the Rigged Manager Derby, as both teams had their 2015 4chan Winter Cup matches voided due to sockpuppeting/banned managers. The only match between the two was from the 2014 4chan Summer Cup Round of 16, which /ic/ won 2-1 after extra time.
- No Homo Derby: /fa/ vs. /fit/ - Contradictory to its name (obviously), /fit/ and /fa/ have the gayest relationship on 4chan, even gayer than a /hm/-/y/ fuckfest. However, the two refuse to admit it. The record sways in /fit/'s favor, having won 4-1 in the 2012 4chan Winter Cup and drawn 0-0 in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup.
- Nutrition Derby: /ck/ vs. /fit/ - Which is better? Eating healthy to get sick gains, or eating what's delicious? One of the most-played rivalries of the cup, the teams have played SEVEN times: /ck/ opened it up with a 1-0 win in the 2011 4chan Summer Cup, followed by a 3-2 win in the 2012 4chan Winter Cup, then a 3-3 draw in the 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup Friendlies. /fit/ finally managed to win a match in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, winning 3-1. After a year-long absence of matchups, the teams met again in the 2014 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies, with /ck/ winning 2-1 thanks to a last-minute Perfect Coffee goal. /ck/ later prevented /fit/ from advancing to the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup knockouts, winning 2-1 thanks to a Nachos double. After another year-long break, /fit/ would beat /ck/ 3-2 in the 2016 4chan Summer Cup, featuring /fit/'s incredible late comeback.
- Outdoor Nature Derby: /an/ vs. /out/ - What's best for the animals? Do they prefer domestication and being confined to the zoo, or should they be able to run free in the wild where one can encounter them in their habitat? The first meeting between the two, in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Qualifiers, ended 0-0. /out/ would win on the second attempt, 2-0 in the 2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup semi final.
- Purity Bowl: /c/ vs. /u/ - There is nothing purer than a cute anime girl, but there is also nothing purer than the
forbiddenlove between two cute anime girls. /c/ and /u/ tend to disagree on which one is the true form of purity and has led to a nee-san/imouto relationship. The teams have met four times: A 3-0 /u/ win in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, two 2-2 draws in the 2013 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies and 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup, and a 2-1 /u/ win in the 2016 4chan Autumn Babby Cup quarter final.
- Sibling Rivalry/Battle of the Provisionals: /gd/ vs. /s4s/ - /gd/ is the white whale for [s4s]. That is, no matter how hard they try, they can never beat them. In all four meetings between the two teams, /gd/ have won them all. Both teams' first matches were against each other in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup Friendlies, which /gd/ won 3-1. The second meeting was arguably the most amazing, with /gd/ relegating [s4s] with a miraculous two-goal comeback in the 2015 4chan Summer Cup, featuring >Flowre's substitution and subsequent sending-off. The teams met again in the 2016 4chan Winter Cup where [s4s] were nearly relegated again, being crushed 4-0 by the Win/gd/ings. The pain only got worse as /gd/ put five goals past the funposters in the first half of their 2017 4chan Winter Cup Round of 16 matchup, eventually running out 5-2 winners.
- Slow Bowl: /i/ vs. /po/ - Statistically, the slowest boards on 4chan are /i/ and /po/. Any request you post on /i/ can go for years if it goes to bump limit
and is not bumped to death by those fucking /tv/ faggots, while you can post PDFs on /po/ (cool, isn't it?). The only meeting between the two teams was a 3-3 draw in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup Qualifiers.
- Spooker Bowl: /his/ vs. /lit/ - Both /his/ and /lit/ have history deeply embedded in their culture. Their only match was a cracker: The famous 6-5 victory for /lit/ in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup,
setting the tone for the rivalry in the futurebut it doesn't matter because rivalries are a spook.
- Touhou Bowl: /f/ vs. /jp/ - /jp/ may show contempt to the other boards, but when Tuesday rolls around, they get together with /f/ to celebrate Touhou Tuesdays with some good old Touhou flashes. The teams have met just once, with /f/ winning 3-1 in the 2013 4chan Winter Cup Friendlies.
- That Other Touhou Derby: /jp/ vs. /v/ - Is the Touhou Project vidya, or is it just some weeb shit? /v/ may have the current say, with a 2-2 draw in the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies and a 3-1 win in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
- Tsun-derby: /a/ vs. /v/ - Weebs and nerds both enjoy vidya and Chinese cartoons, but /a/ and /v/ act tsundere as fuck around each other. /a/ absolutely dominates this rivalry: A 2-1 win in the 2011 4chan Summer Cup, a 4-1 win in the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, and a 2-1 win in the 2016 4chan Summer Cup.
- Vegan Derby: /an/ vs. /ck/ - Everybody knows that vegans are the most insufferable shitters on the planet, and they are a common enemy among the /an/imal enthusiasts and the co/ck/ sauce experts. The only game between the two was a Round of 16 matchup in the 2016 4chan Winter Cup: A 4-3 win to /an/.
- Winter 2012 Derby: /k/ vs. /sp/ - A rivalry formed in the 2012 4chan Winter Cup, /k/ kicked it off by defeating /sp/ 2-1 in the Winners' Final. In the Grand Final, /sp/ would defeat /k/ 3-0, but they were unable to get the title as /k/ won 2-1 in the following game. /sp/ would win 2-0 in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup on the way to a trophy, which was voided anyway.
