2012 4chan Summer Cup Final

The 2012 4chan Summer Cup final was the deciding match of the 4chan Cup's fourth official tournament. It was played between /int/ and 2012 Winter Cup-finalists /sp/. The match was played on the evening of July 21, 2012. /sp/ were the winners of the match 4-0.

Match

Summary

/int/ began proceedings by kicking off. On their first attempted attack they lost possession to /sp/. Costanza and Messi one-twoed before Messi played an excellent through ball to Toni Reali which schythed through the /int/ defensive line. Reali was put clear through on goal and chiped audaciously past Best Korea to score after only four minutes. /sp/ went on the attack again after the restart but /int/ abruptly halted momentum as Slav brought down Vaughncouver for a free kick from 30 yards. A sidefooted Messi kick floated above the two-man wall and into the very most top-right corner of the /int/ goal - Best Korea was left static as /sp/ took a 2-0 lead after just seven minutes. On /int/'s first real penetrative move into the opposition third, Maradona's ball from the left across the face of goal was cut out by keeper How Old? /sp/'s excellent long passing play made them a constant threat though Best Korea was quick to cut out one ball which nearly reached Jagsguy who was unmarked on the left.

Argentina White picked up the ball on the right wing for /int/ and fed it to Putin who ran deep into the /sp/ area though the most he could muster from a tight angle was a ball which rolled an inch wide of the far post. A few minutes later /sp/ looked threatening once again as Teboq played a through ball to Messi who attempted another chip for the winning side but this time the ball went wide of the left post. The match died down from its high base in the coming minutes, then CENAWINSLOL was called for a poor challenge on Maradona. Polandball took the resultant free kick from 25 yards which amounted to nothing. Having regained possession /sp/ took the opportunity to break - excellent passing set Teboq free on the left wing, and his low ball into the penalty area was met by the sliding Messi who hit home for /sp/'s third. In the remaining 10 minutes of the half a dazzled /int/ could produce nothing in response as /sp/ defended well in numbers. The teams went into the half separated by three goals.

The second half began with /sp/ commanding possession but the final ball was lacking. 10 minutes in Teboq had a header from six yards caught low by Best Korea. At the hour mark /int/ were in their most threatening position of the match as Maradona dribbled excellently by two defenders to create space on the edge of the area to shoot, but his shot ricocheted off the leg of an offside Putin which disallowed the eventual goal. /sp/'s fourth goal quickly dampened any hopes of an /int/ come back. Costanza picked the ball up from 35 yards, advanced, and played a perfectly weighted pass to Messi who hit a pacey shot low past the hapless Best Korea to seal his hat-trick and make /sp/'s title all but a certainty. /int/ continued to make efforts to get on the scoresheet but the best they could manage in the aftermath of /sp/'s goal was Polandball's blazed shot wide from 10 yards. Substitute Negrito had a chance to become an unlikely scorer and add a fifth for /sp/ but his poor shot in space went well wide of the /int/ goal.

With 15 minutes remaining Polandball was able to head the ball into the back of the net but he was flagged for being well offside. /int/ continued to knock on the door, and Putin played BRBR? into space on the left. He was stifled by /sp/ defenders who gave away a free kick on the middle-left edge of the /sp/ penalty area. Polandball's free kick was blocked by the /sp/ wall and the ball went out for a corner. A cross from Maradona towards Putin was cleared aerially with relative ease by the /sp/ defence. /int/ relented in the final 10 minutes and gave /sp/ opportunities to attack once again but their attempts came to no avail. It mattered little as time ticked away and the referee blew his whistle after two minutes of injury time, just as Putin headed a final attempt wide, to round off /sp/'s historic first title.
