2012 4chan Summer Cup |
The 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup was the third official 4chan Cup competition, and the inaugural Babby Cup, designed to act as a lower-tier qualification stage to major tournaments due to the increasing number of participating boards. It was held on the weekends of 23 - 25 March 2012 and 31 March - 1 April 2012.
The cup consisted of all the teams that wished to take part in the 2012 4chan Summer Cup that were not present in the previous cup. Teams performing in an official tournament for the first time were /3/, /an/, /cgl/, /cm/, /d/, /f/, /gif/, /lit/, /m/, /mlp/, /n/, /pol/, /r9k/, /sci/, /toy/, /vp/ and /y/. Teams replaced by the Second Founding would be reformed to participate in this cup.
This was the first official tournament to be run using new gold/silver/bronze regulations. See the format page for more information. This was also the first tournament to use a group stage, rather than a double-elimination bracket. There were 8 positions free in the Summer Cup, meaning that the top 8 teams of the 4chan Babby Cup advanced to the 2012 4chan Summer Cup. These were, in order of qualification: /m/, /3/, /sci/, /d/, /int/, /n/, /toy/ and /pol/.
The cup was won by /m/ in one of the most dominant cup displays in 4chan Cup history, after defeating /3/ in the final 4-2. /sci/ came third after defeating /d/ in the third place play-off. The Golden Boot was shared between /m/'s Gundam RX-78-2, /cgl/'s Dramu and /d/'s Haigure, who each scored ten goals each.
Conditions
These were the following conditions for all Babby Cup games:
- 10 minutes per half
- All teams started with good condition, however fatigue accumulated *throughout the tournament.
- Card accumulation
- Extra time and Penalties in the knockout phase, not in the group stage
- Superstar player level
Participating Teams
The following 20 teams were scheduled to participate in the tournament:
† /adv/ were disqualified from the competition for not completing their squad on time, and were to be replaced by the winners of the Preliminary Round.
As such, two teams were pre-qualification entries, with a play-off held to determine the single entrant:

Summer Cup Final Seed Qualifiers
The PES tournament format was such that, with a non-divisible number of teams qualifying for the knockout stages, a preliminary round was formed. Two matches, one on each side of the draw, would be played for the right to progress to the quarter finals and the 2012 4chan Summer Cup.
The selection of teams for the preliminaries and the draw did not take into account any performance or final standing in the group stages, and was made on a totally random basis. The teams to participate in the qualifiers were /cgl/, /toy/, /sci/ and /gif/.
