The /sp/artans Football Club is a simulated professional football team founded in August 2011, representing /sp/, the 4chan board dedicated to sports. They won the 2012 4chan Summer Cup before the title was revoked due to the Dragongate scandal. They also won the 2013 4chan Winter Cup, making them, for a time, the first and only two-time Elite competition champions. They also held the number 1 spot in the cup rankings from January 2012 to May 2013, currently the longest such reign, and from March to May, 2017.

The club's popularity among the proud posters of /sp/ has made them susceptible to negative press. Accusations of rigging lead to the Match Fixing Scandal in early January 2012. The team was implicated in the Dragongate scandal as well. Their almost-systematic shitposting on other boards during /sp/ Cup participation is often cited as one of the possible reasons for the global cup ban by 4chan moderation.

/sp/'s main rivals are, without a doubt, /a/, who knocked them out of the cup twice on top of being dirty weeaboos, but they also have minor rivalries with /v/, /fit/, and potentially any board who knocks them out of the cup (/s4s/ and /vg/ we're looking at you) or have a fanbase as rambunctious as theirs.

2025 4chan Winter Cup
 /sp/'s first cup appearance of the year came in the 2025 4chan Winter Cup between the 24th of January and 9th of February, having retained their elite status from the 2024 4chan Summer Cup. This cup featured 4 new /sp/ players: Monicius Jr., Rachael Gunn, PhD, Cuckitini and Prison FC. Messi and TSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU kept their positions as golds, and Perro Caca and >he does it for free received the honor of being silvers following their popularity in the pre-cup poll.

The /sp/artans were drawn into Group B alongside  /d/,  /x/ and  /o/. Much like last summer, /sp/'s cup got off to the worst possible start. In the opening match against /x/, new signing Rachael Gunn, PhD gave away a penalty only 9 minutes into her debut. Succubus GF made no mistakes from the spot and /sp/ were trailing early. The Goats failed to make use of the remaining 80 minutes to turn the game around, resulting in a 0-1 loss and an uphill battle to advance into the Round of 16. Commentators highlighted lackluster attacking as a core issue for the team, with poor synergy in attack. These doubts were carried into the next match two days later, a grudge match against /d/. /sp/'s only win against the /d/egenerates in 5 games was stricken as a result of Dragongate, all the way back in 2012. With everything on the line, /sp/ nearly nullified /d/'s attack and a smart TSUUUUUUUUUUUUUU finish gave the /sp/artans a 1-0 win and ended a run of 4 games without a win against /d/. Only the autopilot /o/ stood in the way of a spot on the Round of 16, with all teams in the group ending the weekend on 3 points. /d/ and /x/ drew their final game, leaving both teams on 4 points and meaning that /sp/ would need a win or at least score 3 goals in a draw to advance. The M/o/tor/sp/orts Derby started poorly for /sp/, with Twingo scoring after just 15 minutes. TSUUUUUUUUUUUUUU got a goal back just before half-time, but /o/ answered immediately, with a non-medal CMF restoring their lead with the last kick of the half. It looked like /sp/'s attacking problems were coming to bite them, as they struggled to make anything happen in the second half. With 20 minutes left in a do or die situation, /sp/ gambled on a 253 formation with +2 enabled. Immediately TSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU went for a long shot from 30 meters, rifling the ball into the top corner behind a stunned goalkeeper. /sp/ kept the pressure on, but struggled to find the winning goal. As the clock reached 87 minutes, Messi hit a cross to the far post. Prison FC went up to challenge /sp/'s Tonight on /o/ for the header, with the latter accidentally heading the ball into his own net. For a brief moment, Owen Goal had returned to the team to give /sp/ the third goal they needed and secured first place in the group.

This was a cup for repeat matchups and as fate would have it, Boris' hat gave /sp/ a chance for revenge in the Round of 16. The team who knocked /sp/ out of the previous Summer Cup and eventual winners  /wsg/ came out of the hat. Although far from a grudge match, the /sp/artans were itching to rectify a hard to swallow quarterfinal loss from last year. After a nervous start, /sp/ found their stride as TSUUUUUUUUUUU sunk a cross from Prison FC after 30 minutes. A few minutes later, Perro Caca picked up on a loose ball and made no mistakes, increasing the lead to 2. Just before the end of the half, Prison FC found TSUUUUUUUUUUUU a second time, and /sp/ went into the locker room with a 3-0 lead at the half. /sp/ took their foot off the gas for the second half, not creating much but rather controlling the game to secure the win. /wsg/'s Gondola got one back, but /sp/ defeated the reigning champions 3-1 and secured a third final day appearance in a row. Waiting in the quarterfinal was  /tv/, another team /sp/ have a bad record against. Much like last year's quarterfinal, things went to shit immediately for /sp/. Goalkeeper So, it happened again spilled an easy shot into the path of Kinoplex Robert, mirroring EXPOSED's immediate howler from Summer. /sp/ answered immediately through Perro Caca. Just after this CAM ON INGERLAND misplaced a pass straight into the path of Sheev, who made no mistakes alone with the goalkeeper. In 4 minutes /sp/ had committed 2 errors leading to a goal. /sp/'s defense continued to struggle with /tv/'s high press and long ball, with /tv/ scoring a third before the half. At half time at 1-3, /sp/ had a mountain to climb. TSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU got one back early in the half, finishing from a great Perro Caca pass. /tv/ again answered immediately, restoring their 2 goal lead. /sp/, growing desperate for a comeback and a Messi goal, threw everybody forward for the last 30 minutes. This gamble did not pay off as /tv/ scored a 5th, although Perro Caca narrowed the deficit back to 2 soon after. After this, /sp/ fell flat and /tv/ took advantage. As most /sp/artans looked away, /tv/ would go on to score 8 on a desperate /sp/, resulting in a new biggest defeat at 3-8. /sp/'s cup was over.

The 2025 Winter Cup was one of positives and negatives. Management quickly became aware of several flaws with the team and for a while it looked like relegation was imminent. /sp/ nevertheless not only managed to stay Elite, they finally beat a white whale in /d/, and avenged last year's quarter final loss against /wsg/. With 3 final day appearances in a row, /sp/ look to be consistently putting themselves in contention, even when the team isn't at its best. /sp/ did however accumulate a new biggest loss. After failing to score, Messi's streak of scoring in every cup he has appeared in (34) came to an end.

Colors and Mascot

/sp/ is maroon, orange, black and white.

For the first 4chan World Cup, /sp/ wore an all white kit with a simplistic green logo. Before the 2012 Winter Cup the team wore blue but eventually settled on the current iconic maroon and orange home kit, based on real world Italian divegrass team AS Roma. For away matches, /sp/ wears solid black kit with orange details. To continue the theme that the club's number one goalkeeper is DA BEARS, the uniform for the goalkeeper is a near representation of the uniform of the handegg team, the Chicago Bears.

The mascot of the club is Paul the Goat (named after the legendary Paul the Octopus), who has gained worldwide fame for his alleged psychic powers. When presented with two boxes containing goat food decorated with the club crest of the two teams who are about to play in a game, Paul has successfully picked the winning team 100% of the time from 25 attempts.

Two logos have been used to represent /sp/ Football Club. While one is the official logo and the other pointless, both are alright to use when depicting the /sp/ Club.

The nickname of the club is the /sp/artans, which is the reason for the Spartan on the logo. The star under the Spartan is a representation of /sp/'s first cup victory in the 4chan summer cup. Football came home that night.
	The lesser used logo. Paul the Goat is given orange colored horns and a shawl with the /sp/ name on it. While a lesser used logo, it is quite a classic among die-hard fans of the club.

Supporters

/sp/ is known to have some of the most passionate fans in the game. Due to this passion, /sp/artans are often seen as whiners by other boards, especially in the wake of the 2012 SC Bracket Scandal. Due to this, /sp/ was the winner of the Worst Fans Award in that cup. However, /sp/ does boast some of the most supportive fans in all of 4chan, participating in the most watched game of the 2012 4chan Summer Cup. After claiming victory in this cup, /sp/ was flooded with celebratory "MESSIMESSIMESSI" and "THANK YOU BASED TORRES" posts.

Rivalries

The Derby of /sp/art/a/ The biggest derby in the game of virtual divegrass–El Classico. A battle between GOATs of /sp/orts and Men of /a/nime to see who are the greater champions. This derby's history runs all the way back to the 2011 4chan Summer Cup semifinals–a moment /a/ refers to as Yamakan saving Anime and /sp/ remembers as BasedChoke. They did not meet again in an official match until the 2013 Spring Babby Cup friendlies, which /sp/ won. They met twice more in Official Cup games for the 2014 4chan Winter Cup round of 16 and 2015 4chan Spring Babby Cup group stage, with /a/ winning both. The two teams who were destined to be together forever finally met again after 8 years in the 2023 4chan Spring Babby Cup, resulting in a thrilling (yes, actually) 0-0 draw that just barely brought /a/ to their first Elite in 5 years alongside /sp/. 2024 started as a cursed year for /sp/ as the /sp/artans were relegated to the Babbies, while the degenerate weebs stayed Elite.

The Not-Sports Derby Whenever there was a WWE thread on /sp/, there was always at least one person who told WWE fans that pro wrestling is fake and that it belongs on /asp/. Eventually, /sp/ managed to get wrestling threads officially kicked off the board with the help of Hiroyuki Nishimura, who succeeded m00t as owner of 4chan in 2015, stoking the rivalry ever hotter. In the 4chan Cup, these teams have completely different mentalities, with /sp/ angrily sacking managers if they don't win cups and /asp/ exercising more patience with their managers. The two teams finally met in an official Cup match during the 2017 4chan Winter Cup quarterfinals, which /sp/ won 3-1. The rivalry was put to rest after /asp/ was split into /pw/ and /xs/. Rest in peace, /asp/.

The e-Sports Derby /sp/ and /v/ are intense rivals in a feud that is essentially the alphas vs. the weeaboo gaming nerds, and this rivalry was only made worse after /sp/ sent /v/ to the Loser's Bracket in 2011. /v/ is also jealous of /sp/'s endless creativity, epic maymays and their ability to handle the banter. Despite this, /v/ took control of this rivalry for years, defeating the GOATs in the 2013 4chan Summer Cup round of 16 and twice in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup–in the group stage and quarterfinals. This streak was broken in the 2017 4chan Winter Cup when /sp/ eliminated /v/ in the round of 16. /sp/ leveled the series in the 2017 4chan Autumn Babby Cup with a 1-0 win over /v/ in the group stage and took the lead after beating them 2-1 in the group stage of 2020 4chan Spring Babby Cup. The rivalry continued to be close as /v/ beat /sp/ 5-2 in the 2023 4chan Winter Cup, where /sp/ got relegated. /sp/ took their revenge in the 2023 4chan Summer Cup, winning 3-1 in a tournament that saw /v/ relegated.

  • Closest calls: /a/ won 2011 Summer 8-0-1 when it was a double-elimination tournament. Under the two-stage format, /wg/ (2013 Summer), /trv/ (2014 Winter), /tg/ (2015 Winter), /mlp/ (2015 Summer) and /pol/ (2020 Winter) all won with 6-1-0 records.
