Cheeky banter aside, though, /sp/'s history has been a bumpy one since its [[:2013 4chan Winter Cup|Winter win]] of years past. Though consecutive Round of 16 exits to [[:/v/|/v/]] and then FUCKING WEEBS in the cups to follow would dash many a /sp/artan's hopes of reclaiming their rightful second star, the prevailing wisdom at the time held (for good reason) that /sp/, like many other "big teams" of the time, were simply too big to fail -- and so any knockout exit would simply be a temporary inconvenience.
Though they were one of two Provisionals to dominate the [[2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Qualifiers|Qualifiers]] for the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, it was /lgbt/ that soared as [s4s] crashed and burned in the group stage to follow -- and by then, they were ''the'' team to beat. Alas, PES had other plans: though their loss to /y/ in a "pointless" last group stage match seemed no cause for worry as they went on to crush /vr/, the hopes of /lgbt/'s {{tt|fans|bandwagoners}} would soon be dashed as a late own goal against /hr/ the next day sealed the fate of their cup run.
 
And then there were two.
Now, three years after, /lgbt/ has claimed the cup that all but seemed theirs so many moons past, and what a journey it's been -- in the cups to follow that fateful autumn, it seemed as though /lgbt/ could never live up to the standard they themselves had set. Soon, they had fallen into obscurity, into the Babby fixtures, and finally, into undeath, as an abandoned autopilot languished at the bottom of Autumn 2015's [[2015 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Group F|Group F]]. Until recently, too, they had seemed all but likely to die for good -- until new management burst onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere, and like the /lgbt/ of old, they took the Babby by storm. Now, with a Cup in hand and Summer looming, the question poses itself once more: this time, will /lgbt/ pass, or is history poised to repeat? Only time (and PES) will tell.
Two, in fact, seems to be /sp/'s most ill-starred number: two goals crashed them into the Babbies; two seasons would they languish there, missing the Elites; and most importantly -- two stars (for real) always seem just out of reach for them. Not that /sp/'s habit of managerial turnover helped matters, either: they would go through managers as often as Cup cycles, fans demanding sackings as often as there were managers to sack -- and often plunging new and untested talent head-first into the fire. And so, with a new year of PES ahead of us, and /sp/ gearing up for a [[:2018 4chan Winter Cup|Winter Cup]] yet again in the wake of one of its best managers' resignation, the question poses itself again -- {{tt|will it finally be their year, or will /sp/ fookin' slip on the Winter ice?|More importantly, will /sp/ ever beat /a/ in El Clasico?}}
