The group stage of the 2013 4chan Winter Cup was rounded off by the high-pressure Group H, aptly named Group Hell. /m/, /a/ and /mlp/ all brought sizable fanbases and high expectations for their cup performances but Autumn Babby Cup quarter finalists /adv/ took them and the rest of the cup by surprise, defeating /m/ 6-1, and advancing to the knockout stages with top-of-the-group /a/. Both /mlp/ and /m/ were relegated to the Spring Babby Cup.
Summary
Matchday 1
/m/ came onto the pitch to face the newly-promoted /mlp/ side. An open match led to early chances for both /m/ and /mlp/ but it was Gundam who seized his chance when Alteisen sent him through on goal with a well-placed through ball. >rape slotted in from a very difficult angle to equalise for /mlp/. After Spaghetticon failed to collect a Gundam cross Aletisen poached the loose ball to give /m/ the lead back. A spirited /mlp/ were unable to drag the score back in the remaining time despite considerable pressure.
S/adv/irgin drew first blood in Group H's second match after eighteen minutes, but Mugi finished well to put /a/ level and again to put them ahead, though his second was immediately nullified by Femanon. After those four goals in twenty-two minutes the game entered a relatively quiet period until S/adv/irgin scored his second to give his side the lead. The situation prompted Bittenfeld to switch out goalkeeper Wakabayashi for Korbo, leaving many puzzled. Nonetheless, Cowboy Bebop was able to equalise ten minutes later after a powerful run across half the pitch, outpacing the /adv/ defence. Another ten minutes later a sublime header from Bebop left Good Guy Greg rooted to the ground, and /a/ were level. At the death 5 Inch Dick had a golden opportunity to score which was saved brilliantly by substitute goalkeeper Korbo, securing the three points for /a/.
Matchday 2
/a/ and /m/ continued their tournament rivalry and the match did not fail to live up to expectations as /a/ stole the points in the midst of masses of late drama. The match began with an /a/ goal - Tsubasa Oozora dribbling deep and sending in a cross from the /m/ goal line to Mugi who obliged with a towering header. Just four minutes later /a/ were awarded a free kick centrally, just outside the penalty area. Cowboy Bebop sent the ball curling into the top corner well beyond Iron Giant's reach. /a/ pressure continued but no more goals were forthcoming. Five minutes before half time Gundam headed just over the bar from ten yards in what was probably /m/'s best chance thus far. /m/ were unable to make a breakthrough until super-sub Strike Freedom scored from a corner. A few minutes later he made a winding run through several /a/ players into the penalty area and found the bottom left corner to equaliser. The final goal of the match stemmed from another Tsubasa run deep. Though his cross found no one in the box, Mugi retrieved the ball to cross again to Tsubasa who had made his way into the six yard box and he headed in to give /a/ the win and crucial three points.
/adv/ were able to weather the early storm of /mlp/ pressure, and an absent defence allowed S/adv/irgin to run unhindered towards goal and open the scoring. /mlp/'s reply was immediate, as Tracy's free kick was floated into the penalty area onto the head of the double-marked >rape who was still able to score. After a lull, /mlp/ gained the advantage five minutes into the second half after a quick counter-attack. /adv/ clawed themselves back level with the match's second instant equaliser, when 5 Inch Dick blasted the ball in from a free kick. /mlp/ were undeterred and continued to apply pressure which paid off handsomely when >rape completed his hat-trick with two goals in five minutes. As /adv/ were unable to find a reply in the late stages despite pushing forward, /mlp/ took the win, leaving the group finely poised for the third matchday.
Matchday 3
The first match of Group H's third matchday began with /a/ exerting pressure on the /mlp/ defence, keeping the ball in the final third for some time. Eventually /a/ found the breakthrough when Cowboy Bebop scored from within the D. /mlp/ responded well to the setback and dominated much of the rest of the half, but Bebop could have doubled /a/'s lead in injury time. The Burdened saved well to keep /mlp/ in the match. A controversial challenge by Jackie Chan Tulpa on Bebop just before the hour mark was ignored by the referee, though some claimed the move was a foul. Given the position of the foul, on the very edge of the penalty area, a foul could have led to a greatly different outcome in the match. A phase of /a/ pressure culminated in a Tsubasa Oozora headed goal from Bebop's chipped cross from close range. /mlp/ came forward in numbers but were unable to break down a resolute /a/ defence. As such, /a/ emerged victorious with a 2-0 win and finished top of the group with nine points.
5 Inch Dick blasted the ball home in the third minute to stun /m/. The latter saw much of the possession after the goal but were unable to make anything of it. /adv/ dealt another blow to /m/ after half an hour when 5 Inch Dick scored a close-range free kick. This time /m/'s response was immediate and effective as Alteisen played Gundam through on goal and he sent the ball past Le Voldemort Face with ease. /m/ continued to see the greater share of the ball but couldn't find the net again. Just before half time 5 Inch Dick ran from deep on the right wing into the box and passed to a totally open S/adv/irgin who scored the tap-in to make /m/'s comeback look much more unlikely. /adv/ put the match beyond all reasonable doubt just after the restart when S/adv/irgin ran onto a Cheating GF through ball to make it 4-1. Left-winger Friendzoned unleashed a powerful strike from thirty yards on the left side to add another. S/adv/irgin secured his hat-trick, dribbling past three /m/ players and hitting the ball into the goal from an angle past the rapidly-closing Master Asia to turn the match into an exercise in humiliation for /m/. The losing side had no reply in the closing stages and the result meant that /adv/ had done more than enough to escape relegation on goal difference, while /m/ were shockingly relegated.
