Team Information
Reputation
Early in the team's history, the monster mash was initially regarded as a flash-in-the-pan nuiscance in /vg/ and something of a blight, but time and familiarity has softened things somewhat. While the threads themselves remain interminably horny and autistic, Undertale (along with the parts of Deltarune that FUCKING HACK HAS GOTTEN OFF HIS LAZY ASS TO RELEASE) has stood the test of time. Whatever borderline-/trash/ fanart smut or mentally ill tripfagging is happening in the thread, at least people like seeing the team's faces.
After a long hiatus from the league, their return in VGL17 has given them a new lease on life as a lower-middle-tier collection of pranksters. Their actual skill and performance fluctuates wildly: chokes against gimme opponents, sneaking out undeserved wins, going GOD OF HYPERDEATH mode without warning, racking up fouls, or playing some of the most unwatchable spaghetti-dropping zero-IQ garbage ever witnessed by man or beast. If they exceed expectation, they're a Cinderella story, and if they underperform they are exposed frauds and retards that should be banished and sealed underground. Whatever they do, though, it's funny more often than not... just be sure the joke isn't on you.

/vg/ League 17
For /vg/ League 17, the team was resurrected as a hollow vessel to fill out the /vg/ League 17 Qualifiers by a mysterious hypothetical jagoff, who ghosted at the last second; their existence remains questionably canon. After a rocky start losing to /kfg/ and a clumsy first half against /osg/, the team finally began to gel. They rescued their second match and breezed through their final qualifier game against /acg/. Because of the team's refusal to stay dead, they not only won the qualifiers, but claimed another entry in the /vg/ League Records with BAD TIMES/Sans' player rating of 9.0 for the second time in League history. Based on my aunt this performance, it was decided by at least one loser from the actual general that the team earned another fresh coat of paint, coming aboard as interim caretaker.
As a result of qualifying, the team was slotted into /vg/ League 17 Group D. Also in this was /egg/ and their star vice-captain CLANG, the first and only other VGL player (at the time of their eventual face-off) to ever receive a 9.0 rating. The first group's match against a /dng/ was a spaghetti-dropping fiasco, but /utg/ proved better acclimated to high-autism play conditions and won the day. The imposing performance of /wtg/ the week prior turned out to not matter at all, as /utg/ went full Yellow SOUL Mode and shot holes through their defense. Starwalker's debut matches as goalie were both clean sheets, thanks in no small part to active backfield support and a critical kapow in each game.
The team was sitting on top of the group with a +6 GD and guaranteed the Survival Round at least, and it would take a 5-goal loss to unseat them. Like idiots, they chose to take their last group game lightly, whereas CLANG and his /egg/mates were faced with win-or-elimination and played accordingly. The individual players in the Nines Showdown managed 2 goals apiece, including Sans flipping off the camera twice, but /egg/ went with the clever team-based strategy of having more than one player score during the match, handing /utg/ a 2-4 loss. Maybe /utg/ wanted to conserve energy for the Round of 16 at the cost of bragging rights, or sacrifice an L to the Gods of RNG before Knockout Weekend? Also I guess Starwalker remembered he doesn't have arms. Anyway, shortly after that, the team got the snot beat out of them in the Knockout Stage by an /mjg/ that was bound for Grand Finals, and that was that. No dramatic facing off with /indie/ or /drg/ or anything cool like that. But hey, 14th overall is pretty good for an auto team who almost didn't even get to play!
/vg/ League 18
The story of /vg/ League 18: new game (PES21), new formation (3-5-2)... but old foes. Two of the other teams in Group C (/kfg/ and /dng/) were faced only seven months prior. The third, /drg/, is the team's white whale, having killed the team's playoff run in both of their two clashes... both in shutouts. Though /utg/ looked dismal in their first game back, fortunes quickly changed, and a hard-fought 3-2 win against /kfg/ provided a much-needed ray of hope given the opponents left to face. Energy Sword Sunday saw the first goal the team ever scored against /drg/, and subsequently the first time they ever lead in a match against them... but it did not last. An equalizer and a heart-rending free kick goal later, /utg/ tasted their third dose of despair in a 1-2 loss. With the group at 6-3-3-0 thanks to /kfg/ going over /dng/, the winds of fate howled: of the 3-pointers, /utg/ arguably had the easier opponent final opponent, but the possibilities ranged from surviving on 3 to dying on 6. After a quiet first half at the debut game for our spiffy new Cyber City field, /dng/ scored and things looked dire, but /utg/ refused, answering back and taking the win with a cheeky 90+1 squeaker. After /drg/ gave us a heart attack for 86 minutes, they claimed their own win, topping the group and ensuring /utg/ would make it to the survival round! And then /@/ roared back to peak performance and thrashed our asses. Oh well, still made the team cut and Top 20 again pretty much for free!
/vg/ League 19
Group E of /vg/ League 19 was predominantly new faces, but an opponent met once before in /digi/ was up first. Jevil, now confined to a wheelchair, decided to finally start doing things (scores, assists, defense, back flips, etc.) en route to being honored Man of the Match after a 2-0 victory. That win was ultimately a twotoriel tutorial match, though, as /feg/ chose their match against us to not bench a medal, and proceeded to kick the monster gang up and down the pitch for the first half. The second half was better, but ultimately the damage was done, and a valuable lesson was learned about fluid formations cobbled together the night before. Sitting as the low 3 of a precarious 4-3-3-1 in group stage math, it was essentially Just Win LOL against /alg/; doable, but not guaranteed. After another intensive all-night cram session before the game, the team discovered the fabled tactic known as "having offense" and cruised to not only victory, but narrowly clinching the top of the group without even using substitutions.
Elated with the fact he didn't completely shit the bed, management happily crashed asleep... and totally missed that there was a bonus playoff against /pmmm/ later that day; oops. Thankfully, The Lads knew the playbook and the team took a 3-1 win to a temporary top-eight seeding. After a nice Day 10 not having to coach via phone (and Flowey getting Day 9 Player of the Day for being a cheeky li'l shit) the Round of 16 match against /fgoalter/ proved to be a nailbiter. LIZ LOVE drew first blood, but a goddamn ERA PENAL put the score level again. A cheeky 45+1 brace from DETERMINATION had /utg/ up at the half, but Kiryu-chan pulled it even. At last, buoyed by the synergy of Susie and Krabs in the backfield, Determination nailed a crucial hat trick at 87' and sent /utg/ to their second-ever Final Day. Unfortunately, the team's coaster car ride ran out of track against /akg/; two quick goals early in the first half couldn't be answered, and the monsters lost by one, just like their meeting in the New Thread Cup not long prior. Still, at least the difference wasn't a FUCKING MICKEY MOUSE FREE KICK. And hey, SPAMTON ACTUALLY SCORED ANOTHER GOAL! Top 8 for the second time ever, ending a six year drought? Pretty good. Now to laugh, and return to our mind palace...
/vg/ League X-2 or 20 or Whatever
The team enjoyed their downtime before /vg/ League X-2 began, including finally notching a(n exhibition) win against their Super High-School Level white whale, but the new season brought new challenges. League officials' new rules took time to get adjusted to, and the opponents of Group D presented an immediate threat amid the headache of a playbook revamp. /gig/ had just come off winning bronze last League, /@/ was in similarly strong form having kicked the tar out of the team in recent memory, and the newly-debuting /xgg/ represented a complete unknown.
With /xgg/ to face down first, Burgerpants scored quick and the team held it together for most of their first game against the rookies, but it didn't last. They were plagued by fatigue in the last 15 minutes of play, and a 2-0 lead dissolved quickly into a hard-fought tie, thanks in no small part to Starwalker's tenacious goalkeeping. Uncharacteristically for the Extended Universe Fun Gang, they responded next week's group math pressure with a fury not even their coach knew they had in them. /gig/ drew first blood, but unknowingly had opened their own personal Doorway to Brazil, spending minute 27 on having a really, really bad time. The team sat (precariously) at the top of the group, with a big cushion between them and group stage elimination, but the idols of /@/ were in top form... and /utg/ knew it. They assumed a defensive position, and kept the loss from being a rout, but a baited foul from FAT BITCH got Jevil his second yellow card, suspending him before Survival Round when the teams needed him most to do something... anything!
Day 9's mind-warping length led to a series impromptu pickup matches, and a loss to /5N@F/ at the end of a seemingly endless day sank the team's spirit and brainpower even further. As a result, their Day 10 rematch with /fgoalter/ was one of the most dreadful matches in recent memory... at least until it went to 0-0 penalties and looped back around to being funny. The first 3 rounds went tit-for-fat, but a save on Burgerpants proved the difference maker, ending the team's run but clawing out a roster slot all the way at the far end of the bench. While the post-revival representative streak survived the ordeal, the team was demonstrably in need of some work.

Friendly fare, but still a few historical wrinkles. The two met first in the VGL17 Qualifiers, where the Friends took the win... but Toby's Tulpa Gang advanced as well and eventually surpassed their group stage performance to make the roster. They met again almost immediately in VGL18's group stage, but this time the wildlife lost and were denied a berth to a 4chan Cup slot by that loss and another to /utg/'s other active rival. Long story short, the versus record doesn't quite paint the whole picture here, and any future meetings may add yet another twist. It's all good sport and mutual respect... for now. |
