Ever since breaking off from older brother /v/, /vg/ has dutifully carried on the time-honored pledge of all boards that are vidya: talking about everything except vidya. If you're /vg/, that means gachashit, weebshit, and gay fucking shit. Sometimes all three at once.
The football team is proudly no different.
A veteran of the 4chan Cup, with a history as bumpy and dubious as the board it represents, sometimes >we're good, and good enough to win a Cup. How that happens is anyone's guess. Most of the time >we're as bad as the board >we claim to represent, because everyone's been shitposting and bickering long enough that they've forgotten we're here to play football.
Welcome to /vg/ F.C., the team representing the board of /vg/ - Video Game Generals. Enjoy your stay, and remember to git gud.

/vg/ League
Since the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, the /vg/ League has been the way /vg/ has determined its roster for cups. Initially, only medal players were decided with this method, with other players being chosen by way of contacting the board's fastest generals. However, the /vg/ League now determines the entire /vg/ roster, with a meta player being a permanent gold (currently Git Gud), while the gold and both silvers are determined by the top three teams in the League. The Rivalry
/v/ - Vidya Derby |
Since /vg/ is /v/'s little brother, some sibling rivalry is bound to ensue. Everything BUT Videogames vs. Everything BUT Videogames (in general form!), who will come out on top?
To date the all time record has /v/ winning 2 out of 4 official matches, with both of their wins coming in friendlies. However, /vg/'s lone win in the series came during an elite cup and served to relegate /v/. An unofficial friendly match was played between the two before the 2015 4chan Winter Cup, with /v/ winning 1–0, and both teams have met three times in each of the two Vidya Bowls. The fourth official Vidya Derby came in the 2017 4chan Summer Cup group stage, three years to the last. /v/ got another early lead, but unfortunately /vg/ could not turn the same magic they did long ago and only got an equalizer, which ended up being the difference between relegation and advancement. Of course, both teams went and completely shat the bed following their relegation. |

Team History
Stuck in their first Babby Cup since the VGL only had 32 teams in it, /vg/ faced an additional challenge due to the Megababby format adding an extra opponent to each group. They wound up drawn with /trv/, /vt/, /bant/, and /vm/ in Group D. Unsurprisingly, they were widely expected to easily promote back up. /vg/'s first Babby match in a very long time was against /vt/, a new team with massive support looking to rise above two tournaments of middling play. Now playing in a deeper role that allowed for a more well-rounded game, Fumika put /vg/ on the board nearly immediately, a start /vg/ could not have drawn up any better. /vt/ didn't take long to equalize, but the /vg/ defense kept /vt/ from doing anything else and a long pass to Kiryu gave /vg/ a 2–1 win, their first of the tournament. In the two weeks between their first and second matches, /vg/ watched as /vt/ blew out both /trv/ and /vm/ by three goals each while /vm/ blew out a /bant/ quickly establishing itself as the worst team in the tournament. On /vg/'s return to action, they played a /trv/ desperately needing to recover from their loss to /vt/ and put three of their own on them (thanks to a returned-to-CF Git Gud and Kiryu) before ultimately holding on for a 3–1 victory. With two dominant wins in two matches, /vg/ went into their match against /vm/ only needing a draw to effectively put them in Summer and felt like exactly the team to do it. Instead, /vg/'s defense seemingly felt bad for their younger cousin and handed /vm/ three goals on a silver platter. Despite Fumika's best efforts, /vg/ lost 1–3, putting /vm/ above /vg/ on goal difference. /vt/ won the next match over /bant/ by the score of 5&dnash;1 to all but secure their spot in Summer. /vt/'s ridiculous goal difference of +9 rendered it effectively impossible for them to be eliminated, setting up a very plausible and completely unprecedented scenario in which /vg/ could have beaten /bant/ easily, finished with nine of a possible twelve points, and still failed to advance. /bant/, for their part, were heading into the match already eliminated and closer to setting the single-tournament record for worst goal difference than doing anything else. Naturally, /vg/ had to make things a little harder on themselves than it should have been; they took the overwhelming majority of chances, but almost all were from questionable locations. Ultimately, though, /vg/ would easily...
not score any goals. Yes, really. /vg/ played the worst team in a 40-team tournament and managed to not score a single goddamn goal against them. Again. /bant/ didn't score any either, so at least /vg/ got a point out of their incredibly frustrating 0–0 draw. But that wasn't enough. With that result, the now-eliminated /trv/ needed to beat /vm/ to save /vg/ from yet another Megababby group stage collapse. Instead, /trv/ never led the entire match and /vm/ won 4–3. Given that result, /vg/ would have needed to beat /bant/ by at least three goals to actually advance. /vg/ didn't even finish as the best team to not promote; another vidya board, /vst/, racked up a superior goal difference before failing to promote because another team actually did win by three. For the first time since the 2018 4chan Winter Cup, an Elite Cup will pass by without /vg/'s presence. This despite /vg/ winning their first two matches and putting in one of the best defensive performances in the tournament. Few tournaments in /vg/'s history have ended in as frustrating a manner, but the improvement over Winter brings hope that with a new roster in Autumn, the layover before the next Elite Cup will be a short one.
Fumika did nothing wrong and goalkeepers are a spook.
Throughout the year, including after Spring, /vg/ played matches on weekdays as part of Weekly Divegrass. Form noticeably picked up after /vg/'s new roster started to see match time and allowed /vg/ to creep up towards the middle of the table, resulting in a finish of 5th place despite failing to win any of their first six matches. The /vg/ League 18 came and went with /akg/ finally winning it all in their third final, /feg/ finishing as runner-up after playing their first final, and /assg/ winning the Third Place Trophy on their first trip to the semifinals.
