Ever since breaking off from older brother /v/, /vg/ has dutifully carried on the time-honored pledge of all boards that are vidya: talking about everything except vidya. If you're /vg/, that means gachashit, weebshit, and gay fucking shit. Sometimes all three at once.
The football team is proudly no different.
A veteran of the 4chan Cup, with a history as bumpy and dubious as the board it represents, sometimes >we're good, and good enough to win a Cup. How that happens is anyone's guess. Most of the time >we're as bad as the board >we claim to represent, because everyone's been shitposting and bickering long enough that they've forgotten we're here to play football.
Welcome to /vg/ F.C., the team representing the board of /vg/ - Video Game Generals. Enjoy your stay, and remember to git gud.

Current Roster
Main article: /vg/ Roster
/vg/ League
Since the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, the /vg/ League has been the way /vg/ has determined its roster for cups. Initially, only medal players were decided with this method, with other players being chosen by way of contacting the board's fastest generals. However, the /vg/ League now determines the entire /vg/ roster, with a meta player being a permanent gold (currently Git Gud), while the gold and both silvers are determined by the top three teams in the League. So far, fifteen incarnations of the /vg/ League have been completed.

The Rivalry
/v/ - Vidya Derby |
Since /vg/ is /v/'s little brother, some sibling rivalry is bound to ensue. Everything BUT Videogames vs. Everything BUT Videogames (in general form!), who will come out on top?
To date the all time record has /v/ winning 2 out of 4 official matches, with both of their wins coming in friendlies. However, /vg/'s lone win in the series came during an elite cup and served to relegate /v/. An unofficial friendly match was played between the two before the 2015 4chan Winter Cup, with /v/ winning 1–0, and both teams have met three times in each of the two Vidya Bowls. The fourth official Vidya Derby came in the 2017 4chan Summer Cup group stage, three years to the last. /v/ got another early lead, but unfortunately /vg/ could not turn the same magic they did long ago and only got an equalizer, which ended up being the difference between relegation and advancement. Of course, both teams went and completely shat the bed following their relegation. |

Team History
/vg/ played only one match in the biggest friendlies ever, against /jp/. They lost 1–2 and didn't score until the very end of the match. Fortunately, the friendly was right in the middle of the /vg/ League 16, which helped keep eyes off of more terrible >friendlies performance. The /vg/ League was won by /hgg2d/, who defeated /akg/ (again) in the final. /gbpen/ allegedly got third place.
For the largest cup event ever held, /vg/ were thrown into a draw completely free of pots; none of their past three years of success, or anyone else's, mattered. This led to some interesting draws, and /vg/'s was no different. Drawn into Group K with defending Elite Champion /n/, two-time champion /mlp/ looking to rebound from a lost year, and recent Babby finalist /wsg/, /vg/ were widely seen as having one of the toughest draws of the entire competition. An Alice, Doctor, and Aya-led attack carried high expectations nonetheless, and got its first test against the defending Elite Champions. After a completely event-free first half, the first goal was scored by the legendary Skyking, who plays for the wrong team. Smug Redman, back as a non-medal midfielder, equalized quickly after. A match largely dominated by /n/ saw them finally get a reward for their dominance at the 84th minute, thanks again to Skyking, and /vg/ lost their first match of the World Cup 1–2. Undeterred, /vg/ set off to rebound against /mlp/, who had failed to beat /wsg/ in their first match despite near-complete dominance. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan. Again, /vg/'s opponent scored first, this time Best Pony, and again /vg/ equalized quickly as Alice scored her first goal as a gold. Instead of one goal sinking /vg/ this time, it was three; even worse, all of them were scored in a 20-minute stretch before the first half even ended. With any hopes of a comeback all but totally sunk, /mlp/ coasted along and far-too-late tactical changes by /vg/ allowed them to pad out their goal difference with another, very late goal from Alice to close out a 2–4 loss. A slightly more respectable goal difference didn't change the reality of the situation, however; after just two matches, /vg/ were eliminated early. For the first time since the 2017 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, they would not play any further than their last group stage match, and for the first time since the 2015 4chan Spring Babby Cup their fate had been decided before their group stage ended. Worse still, before the final match, news had come that /tnm/, one of the generals represented on the /vg/ roster, would see their game shut down and as a result would be unable to survive to the next /vg/ League. For the final match, against /wsg/, /tnm/ representative Licky Licky and several other players who had seen zero match time were given that time in a match that ultimately meant nothing. /mlp/ had defeated /n/, securing advancement and top of the group for themselves, and with /wsg/ lacking a manager a meme match was not on the cards. For almost the entire match, very little happened, with /vg/ only slightly better than /wsg/. Until, of course, /vg/ won a penalty! Finally, a goal might happen! And how much of a feat it would be to see a goalkeeper score a goal, for only the second time in the history of the cup! Well, it didn't go that way. The CEO of GEO's penalty was saved, and the only goal of the match came in much more conventional fashion; Alice, the leading forward, scoring at the 80th minute. /vg/ won 1–0, securing third place in their group in the most boring way possible. The team's worst run in three and a half years was finally over. This is not to say there were no bright spots; /gbpen/'s Pink Fluffy Leader assisted every single goal /vg/ scored in the tournament, making her immediately one of the top assisters ever to play for the team and surpassing next-best goalless assister Mike Schmidt. And since the World Cup affects absolutely none of the traditional cup cycle, /vg/'s next cup will remain the 2022 4chan Winter Cup. As is true after a normal Elite Cup, the teams already playing in Winter will get a full six months to prepare for the next challenge.
