Ever since breaking off from older brother /v/, /vg/ has dutifully carried on the time-honored pledge of all boards that are vidya: talking about everything except vidya. If you're /vg/, that means gachashit, weebshit, and gay fucking shit. Sometimes all three at once.
The football team is proudly no different.
A veteran of the 4chan Cup, with a history as bumpy and dubious as the board it represents, sometimes >we're good, and good enough to win a Cup. How that happens is anyone's guess. Most of the time >we're as bad as the board >we claim to represent, because everyone's been shitposting and bickering long enough that they've forgotten we're here to play football.
Welcome to /vg/ F.C., the team representing the board of /vg/ - Video Game Generals. Enjoy your stay, and remember to git gud.

Current Roster
Main article: /vg/ Roster
/vg/ League
Since the 2013 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, the /vg/ League has been the way /vg/ has determined its roster for cups. Initially, only medal players were decided with this method, with other players being chosen by way of contacting the board's fastest generals. However, the /vg/ League now determines the entire /vg/ roster, with a meta player being a permanent gold (currently Git Gud), while the gold and both silvers are determined by the top three teams in the League. So far, fifteen incarnations of the /vg/ League have been completed.

The Rivalry
/v/ - Vidya Derby |
Since /vg/ is /v/'s little brother, some sibling rivalry is bound to ensue. Everything BUT Videogames vs. Everything BUT Videogames (in general form!), who will come out on top?
To date the all time record has /v/ winning 2 out of 4 official matches, with both of their wins coming in friendlies. However, /vg/'s lone win in the series came during an elite cup and served to relegate /v/. An unofficial friendly match was played between the two before the 2015 4chan Winter Cup, with /v/ winning 1–0, and both teams have met three times in each of the two Vidya Bowls. The fourth official Vidya Bowl came in the 2017 4chan Summer Cup group stage, three years to the last. /v/ got another early lead, but unfortunately /vg/ could not turn same magic they did long ago and only got an equalizer, which ended up being the difference between relegation and advancement. Of course, both teams went and completely shat the bed following their relegation. |

Team History
With /xcg/ having finally won a title, Snaketits was the new leader of the /vg/ attack, along with /akg/'s SAN-check-failing doctor. The rigging ten-gallon figured now would be as good a time as any to put /vg/ in a group with three separate rematches, two of them from the previous cup, and considering how much of a meme the rest of the group was, it was only fitting that /vg/'s tactics also took inspiration from the /vg/ League. /vg/ were, as ever, generally tipped to easily advance, and so it was with those expectations that /vg/ went into their first match, against /an/, who had only recently dug out of one of the worst two-year runs in the Cup's history. /vg/ had more than enough chances to win the match, but multiple horrific defensive errors meant that by the time they actually finished one, at the 87th minute (hi, still-a-medal Bigley!), /an/ were already up by two. /an/ ended the match with Brown Recluse scoring in stoppage time, and one 1–3 loss later, things were perhaps undeservedly looking bad for /vg/. Fortunately, the rest of their group was just as much of a fucking meme as they are. /diy/ came up next, in a significantly less blue match than the previous one. They wasted no time scoring early, with Purest Form of Love a fucking crab giving them the lead by the eighth minute. Twelve minutes later, Snaketits made it equal, and after a wave of /diy/ attacks led to many shots and relatively little actual threat, the doctor and Snaketits helped /vg/ run away with it to the tune of 3–1. Just like that, /vg/ were back in the group, one that every team had three points in by the end of its second round. All /vg/ needed to do now was draw /f/ and they would stay elite. Instead of playing for a draw, /vg/ came out utterly dominant, all but ending the match by halftime thanks to a ninth-minute Snaketits goal and Git Gud ceasing to be a bitch long enough to score twice. /f/ got one back just before the 60th minute, which turned out to be their sole shot. /vg/ won 3–1, again, and extended the longest stay in the Elites without a relegation to a full 6(six) cups in a row. They had gotten out of the dumbest group alive despite starting by losing to its worst team. It was pretty good.
/vg/'s reward for getting out of their meme of a group was, of course, to play in the Round of 16. Thankfully, they didn't get another fucking rematch, but the actual opponent might have been worse than a rematch. It was /cm/, a fellow Elite Cup winner that had made the final day of each of the past four cups they had played in despite being managed by Literally Fucking Nobody. Faced with an insanely tough Round of 16 matchup, /vg/'s plan to stop /cm/ from making it five in a row was to sit back and try to defend as much as possible. It might have worked, if not for one major flaw: The attack that had powered /vg/ through the group stage was completely, utterly gimped. /vg/ had most of the possession, but /cm/ were fully in control of the match, and when /vg/ tried to push forward, their reward was not any more offensive power, but instead a not-very-nice goal conceded to a /cm/ non-medal at the 69th minute. One 0–1 loss later and for the third time in four cups, /vg/ were eliminated in the Round of 16. They couldn't even go undefeated like the defending champions, although those girls also got relegated while /vg/ didn't. /vg/ were significantly better than their previous Elite Cup, which was good, and they also won a post-cup award for best chant, but auties can only go so far. A MEGA CUP looms, with /vg/ being among the literally every single one of the teams participating. Theoretically, a team that decides their roster by hosting one of the largest invitationals around should have some advantage.
After the cup, one of the /vg/ managers retired after three and a half years with the team, soon replaced by some other guy from the VGL just in time for the MEGA CUP and after it, the 2022 4chan Winter Cup.
At one point in time, /jp/ were good enough to lose to >us in Elite Cup knockout matches. Now >we'll have to settle for doing it in Babby replacements friendlies.
>We might play some other friendlies at some point too, I guess.
