2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup Final

The 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup final was the deciding match of the 4chan Cup's fifth official tournament. It was played between debut team /wg/ and /r9k/. The match was played on the evening of October 21, 2012. /wg/ were the winners of the match 5-1, with Cunt Destroyer scoring a memorable hat-trick.

Match

Summary

/r9k/ were the first side to make an attacking move from kickoff, and Neckbeard's shot from 20 yards in the third minute was collected easily by /wg/ keeper Fractals. In /wg/'s first foray into the /r9k/ half, smooth dribbling from Cunt Destroyer allowed him to evade three defenders and shoot from centre on the edge of the penalty area. The shot beat keeper Mootbloxx and ricocheted off the inside of the post to spare /r9k/'s blushes. However, a failure to clear their lines allowed /wg/ to retrieve the ball on the edge of the final third and mount another attack. Again /r9k/ were spared as Transformers squandered a golden opportunity from inside the penalty area as his shot was blazed well wide. ROBOT9001 was the next to go close, missing the goal by a yard or so through a diving header on a lofted ball into the /wg/ area. From the following goal kick /r9k/ regained possession and Neckbeard played ROBOT9001 through on goal, only for his shot to wastefully hit the closing Fractals.

Goldblum was able to beat the offside trap courtesy of a Nudes through ball and was left in acres of space in a one-on-one opportunity, however Mootbloxx closed and made the crucial save. The end to end football pushed the sides to their limits, and the deadlock was broken after 25 minutes when heavy /r9k/ pressure proved too much for their opponents. Forever Alone made a shot from close range which beat Fractals but came off the inside of the left post. Thankfully Japanese Lettuce Hardcore was within six yards to pounce and hammer home the rebound to give /r9k/ the lead. That lead would barely last four minutes before /wg/ were able to reply. Cunt Destroyer's almost magnetic control of the ball paid off once again as he made space for his team-mates - allowing Spacecat the one-two the ball to him and hit the ball into the top-right corner from the middle of the penalty area to get the equaliser. /r9k/ immediately sought to regain the advantage. Despite their pressure they were unable to find a breakthrough though ROBOT9001 went closest with a drilled low shot from 25 yards which went inches wide of the right post. Cunt Destroyer went into the referee's book just before half time for a cynical challenge. The half ended with both teams level and looking generally even.

The second half begin with /wg/ looking the more likely to score as they peppered the /r9k/ goal with shots. Ten minutes in, Spacecat rose above his surrounding defenders and got his head onto a looping ball into the area which found the top right corner, easily beating Mootbloxx; /wg/ took the lead for the first time. /r9k/ were not disheartened and attempted to get right back into the match but poor decision making squandered a good opportunity deep within the /wg/ box to allow Fractals to retrieve a weak backheel from ROBOT9001. Past the hour mark the matched eased into what was its quietest period thus far, with both sides attempting to play possesion football with neither making the breakthrough. This would ultimately be /r9k/'s downfall, as slack passing let Spacecat intercept a pass and immediately play the ball to Cunt Destroyer who bore down on goal with haste. A dummy allowed him to navigate beyond Mootblox and slot the ball home to make it 3-1.

As a response, and with 20 minutes remaining, /r9k/ opted to switch mentality to all-out attack. ROBOT9001 took on the /wg/ defence head on and made good distance with tricky skills, but attempted to get beyond one too many defenders. The loose ball found Neckbeard who could only hit a limp shot wide right. As the losing side looked short of ideas, the sun set on their title challenge as /wg/ were in the ascendency and showed no signs of respite. Incisive /wg/ passing played Cunt Destroyer through on goal again, but this time his shot came right back off the post for /r9k/ to clear desperately. From the resultant throw-in Headphone Girl swung in a cross which met the head of Spacecat who scored again with an aerial effort, giving /wg/ the unassailable 4-1 lead. They then added insult to injury in the dying moments as Cunt Destroyer sealed his hat-trick with an excellent shot from the D into the top-right corner, allowing /wg/ to win their maiden title in their maiden tournament with an emphatic 5-1 victory.
