Here is the way it works. Under headings write what you think the differences between our options are, and which one you think is the best to use and why.

Patch / Fileloader version

Whatever one we used for Spring. I'm not even in Autumn, but Summer was such utter shit because of 1.12 DoubleNigger  !!WN64AbCpO6P S4s icon.png 15:52, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

User:Test Pony/PESandFL for more information. Test Pony (talk) 19:54, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

1.12 a shit. Revert back to Winter or Spring patches. Either that or PES04. KHS Rowan (talk) 20:49, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

This has to be the first question we ask ourselves. Because with this question comes different results for professional/top player/superstar and global def prowess and file patch loader settings etc. IMO we should use what we saw in The Decision but with lower defensive prowess - Mantis (talk) 01:51, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

I was told to release this, a pack with 1.04 and FL 1.2.0.9 for easy conversion back from 1.12 to show you how easy it actually is if you follow the readme correctly: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0TwHGHvKz8TNXpvX3V4RzlvS3M/edit?usp=sharing . Test setups for this version can be found soon on my page a few lines up. Test Pony (talk) 00:45, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

1.12 is not beyond salvation, but I think the best settings we have so far are what TP said. Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

1.12 with Superstar and tweaked Def Prow is very, very good actually. We should not give up on it. ArtVandelay 10:26, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Test setup added as promised above, still subject to small chances: Test Setup 3 Test Pony (talk) 18:11, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Game difficulty setting (professional, top player, superstar)

In my experience Top Player is more balanced and overall more fun to watch Polybius (talk) 16:10, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Its a lot of extensive testing and autism Ive been into since I got the manager label. Professional? Never. Top Player IS objectively the best difficulty to play on. KHS Rowan (talk) 20:47, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Going to have to agree with everyone else here, Top Player was far, far better than Professional in the tests I've run on >1.12. EDIT: After some serious drinking/testing I've found Super Star to be superior to Top Player. I had more Goals, Shots and Shots On Target per game on Super Star than with the same settings and Top Player. Sargbot (talk) 00:01, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Top Player has given much better results and more entertaining matches than professional. --Aitor Karanka !!vHwU8e1Ta/3 22:33, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

If we're using 1.12, do not use fucking Professional. Top Player and Superstar are both good IMO, with not much difference between the two. Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Have to disagree with everybody here. After my tests I have to say that Top Player makes for a very unbalanced and boring game compared to Superstar. Superstar really shines and is entertaining to watch and should definitely be the way to go if we settle for 1.12. I wrote a bit more about this in the thread, dont want to shit up this place too. ArtVandelay 9:48, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

SUPERSTAR OR RIOT Its just superior to Top Player. ArtVandelay 10:27, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Game emotion/heart setting (normal, high, maximum, ???)

>heart

Off please. KHS Rowan (talk) 20:47, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Heart Abuse exists in cup mode for sure, teams that win a game late (or in ET) tend dismantle teams pretty well in the following rounds after gaining a heart boost. For example I had /diy/ beat [s4s] 6-5 aet and proceed to win 4-1 and 4-0 in the next two games. Blacksmith scored 11 goals in 4 games. Sargbot (talk) 00:28, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Since we will not be using cup mode, I support using random motivation to add another strategic element to the games. Crisp Cups were run with heart on and were fun despite >1.12. Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Global defensive positioning 77 or 88?

Not enough data to conclude. 77 is worth looking into, especially if we stay with 1.12 because the interceptions are really annoying. Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

On 1.12 top player or superstar, the defenses are very strong already. 77 needs to be what we use if we should stay with 1.12. ArtVandelay 09:51, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

I agree 77 defense is good enough on my tests, not OP but also not entirely retarded. Polybius (talk) 18:38, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

We have seen so many good passes through 2-3 defenders that would have been intercepted with 88 def prow when I tested 77 def prow. Its not like the defense becomes total cheese either, its just that some of the harder, more risky passes work more often, and its just so fun to watch to see one striker pass it to another through 3 defenders (this happens very often in real life too, so its more realistic with 77 def prow) ArtVandelay 10:30, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

GK stats 66 or 77?

Whatever we used in Winter-Spring. KHS Rowan (talk) 20:48, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

GKs need a total overhaul, not sure there's time to do it efficiently. Assuming we solve the roll glitch with Fileloader or a free Long Throw card, they're tolerable, but I think would still be more realistic with a slight decrease in defensive prowess and a slight increase in the 3 nerfed stats, not necessarily by 11 points. Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

What is obvious is that raising the GK stats from 66 to 77 makes them too strong, they are unbeatable in 1 on 1s. Having them at 70 more or less solves the issue, but I think we should think about lowering the defensive prowess a bit. The big difference in goal keeping stats and in def prow could explain why there is such a sweet spot (right outside the box) from which almost everything goes in while the goalkeeper is generally capable when shots come from inside the box. Why dont we try all 77s? ArtVandelay 09:53, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

I think they were fine with 66. Personally I'd even drop them a tiny bit further but I'm pretty sure I'm alone in this train of thought. So if anything I say keep them at 66. Polybius (talk) 18:41, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

From my experience 70 for goalkeeping stat makes them just right in 1 on 1 situations. In my tests I nerfed def prow on the keeper to 70 and its working wonders. Crosses are intercepted way less by the GK, and together with Superstar's good AI, it looks like wingplay is finally good again. I will probably try to raise def prow a bit, maybe to 77, just to see how it goes (ideally it wont change anything for crosses but make the GK a bit better in other departments). Def prow 99 has to go. ArtVandelay 10:32, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Fileloader settings

Let's not fuck with things that no one knows what they do if there's neither time nor will to test all of them reliably. We have bigger things to worry about in regards to testing. Besides, these will either have negligible impact or bork the game completely like they did in 2013. Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

General: fix direct shooting

Isn't this for single player only? --Tottori (talk) 06:16, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Gameplay: shot power

If the cup returned to an older PES14 patch, we'd be again facing on of the issues from Winter and Spring: A statistically improbable plethora of shots from 20-12 yards that are so weak they just fiddle into the hands of the Keeper. Fucking with this would be relevant on Spring or Winter settings. Chance (talk)

Gameplay: ball speed

Gameplay: AI level

Crisp Cups imply this should be OFF. Turning it on made the games less retarded but sterile, overly technical, not very entertaining despite goals and impossible to commentate (X passes to Y-oh no that got intercepted, now it's the other team wi-nope, intercepted again). Crispy (talk) 22:11, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Gameplay: Enforce AI balance

If I remember correctly, this only has an effect when not using two controllers, as in that case the AI plays the team without controller worse. But I can't remember where I read it. Generally this option doesn't concern us. --SuppaTenko (talk) 23:47, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Well, as Tenko said. However as several managers don't actually use two controllers, this would be something to take in consideration, perhaps.KHS Rowan (talk) 16:36, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

The host uses two controllers and always has, so arguably we specifically shouldn't consider one-player environments. I'm pretty sure there's always been some play differences in how 1P coach mode plays vs no-player AI in comparison to against a 2P coach mode. --Tottori (talk) 21:00, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Gameplay: Remove bad AI script

Seems to be good. There's just way less AI spaghetti with it. We should definitely keep this on ArtVandelay 09:56, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

After I dun goof'd and forgot to check this, I ran 20 test games without it and comparing it to streams where it was active, I don't notice any major difference. Polybius (talk) 18:44, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Gameplay: Passing support level

Might be the cancer that is killing top player. Many people proposed we go to top player because the games were entertaining for them, and I guess they didnt test with passing support to 100. As I've said in the thread, the players are concerned WAY TOO MUCH with keeping possession, and it might be because of this slider here. Maybe top player in itself is good but this kills it, I dont know. I will try to look into whether or not this should be on in the next days. ArtVandelay 09:55, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes, its horrible cancer. Gameplay was much more pleasing without it in the exact same matchups. Teams are trying to attack more instead of just passing the ball back all the time. This must be turned off. ArtVandelay 10:33, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Testing Experiences

tottori's test settings

If you really want something to do in the downtime, test the following setup:

  • 1.12, fileloader 1.2.0.9
  • top player diff
  • player emotion on, forced 4/5 (between normal and maximum)
  • reset 77's def prow to 77
  • reset gk 66 stats to 77
  • fileloader: everything off except:
    • Remove bad AI script on
    • Passing support level 100 (I don't know what the hell this does, so let's find out)

Please report as to how this set of settings sucks in operation and why so I don't blow a perfectly good TC2.5 on it.

Higher AI difficulty certainly made things better. What I was surpised by the most is that crosses are now not total shit. This also applies to throughballs. Both are hard to pull off but they no longer seem like an impossible task with 77 Def Prowess. The games were more entertaining to watch, as players didn't mess up every 2 seconds and they passed better than Summer, although recieving or going to recieve passes is still fucking up a lot, mostly long passes or passes to wingers. Even with that the flow of the game was a lot more fluid.
Heart/motivation seemed to make a huge improvement and it didn't seem to change mid-game when in exhibition mode. In one game I had a team go 3 goals down, then come back from that and no heart/motivation changes happened. I've also seen yellow cards with heart on. That day I ran like 10 games and there were 3 cards.
I don't agree with the GK buff. Edit: I agree with the free keeper card. When I forgot to give one of the goalkeepers I was testing against, a roll happened. No rolls happened with the card on. Skywelker (talk) 20:46, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
use superstar instead of top player, its simply better, more entertaining and more balanced too. GKs shouldnt have more than 70s stats if we keep the def prow to 99 because 77s makes them too strong in one on ones. passing support seems to make the players go for some tiki taka way too often, causing boring gameplay at times. would turn it off, too. ArtVandelay 09:58, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

1.04 Test Cup Results

Additional Testing

Sargbot's Testing

I figured I should link this stuff here as well. I ran two test cups with the same settings, aside from the game version.

Results for the 1.04 cup can be found here: http://implyingrigged.info/wiki/User:Sargbot

More detailed information can be found in the documents here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ytq4qtj6jt2o007/Sargbot+Test+Cup+Nonsense.rar

The information includes the settings used, game by game stats (goals, shots, shots on target, saves) as well as individual player stats (goals and assists). So far my experience has been pretty much the same as everyone else, I feel that 1.04 is preferable to 1.12.

Polybius's Testing

I'm very in favor of using similar settings to Ved's test cup. Lots of very interesting games and a nice variety of goals.
