/mu/, looking to extend their young elite streak, went into this winter cup finally seeking a finish that doesn't end in the round of 16. The group looked rather difficult, with a consistent opponent /d/, a /ck/ who just finished in the top 4 and a /tg/ who somehow beat all the odds to advance out of autumn. The first match of /tg/ was a very easy game with /mu/ scoring 4 and Ye securing his first goal since Autumn 2018, however the next match against /d/ was terrible, not being able to form an attack and ultimately losing this game 2-0. Thanks to the goal difference, /mu/ still was somewhat save, however a win was needed to definitely secure promotion against /ck/. The game started well with an early goal by old man Jeff, however towards the end of the match, /ck/ managed to grab an equalizer, making this a possible fight for survival. Right at the end with the very last action of the game, Lennon managed to receive a through ball right past the defense, and one on one against the Keeper, managed to chip the ball in to make it a very late 2-1 and secure promotion for /mu/ again, extending the elite streak even further to now 3 elite knockouts in a row. In the round of 16, /mu/ faced /aco/, who the last time those two teams met was a very unpleasant match that ended 0-3 in favor of /aco/. It looked like another dark game as /aco/ took the lead early in the game while /mu/ kept trying to find a pass to Mangum but failing horribly. In the second half, /mu/ finally managed to create deadly attacks after commentators kept saying that passing to Mangum didn't seem to work, right after which Mangum responded to this bashing by getting a quick brace in 2 minutes with incredibly good passes. The game ended 2-1 and /mu/ finally reached the top 8 for the first time since winter 2021. There, they would meet the eventual champions /pw/, who used an extremely abhorrent defensively playstyle and slurped the match for 80 minutes until finally capitalizing on a defensive error by the /mu/ defense. /mu/, desperate for an answer, went all in afterwards, but this is what /pw/ wanted as they managed to sneak in a second goal, ending /mu/'s dream. Still proud to achieve a top 8 finish, /mu/ is looking forward to summer 2024, the 10 year anniversary of their elite cup win. From humble beginnings as one of the original 16 teams of the 4chan Cup to a championship all their own, /mu/ have persevered through good times and bad. Managed by a crack team (though "alcohol team" sounds more appropriate) of patricians and overseen by Jesus Christ himself, the team seeks not only to win titles but to have fun as well. Whether through our goalhorns, silly socks or ridiculous banter, fun is valued both by the team and the board. After all, how seriously can actually take virtual roundputt based on a Tagalog face-painting website? 2024
- For earlier history: /mu/ History
/mu/, looking to extend their young elite streak, went into this winter cup finally seeking a finish that doesn't end in the round of 16. The group looked rather difficult, with a consistent opponent /d/, a /ck/ who just finished in the top 4 and a /tg/ who somehow beat all the odds to advance out of autumn. The first match of /tg/ was a very easy game with /mu/ scoring 4 and Ye securing his first goal since Autumn 2018, however the next match against /d/ was terrible, not being able to form an attack and ultimately losing this game 2-0. Thanks to the goal difference, /mu/ still was somewhat save, however a win was needed to definitely secure promotion against /ck/. The game started well with an early goal by old man Jeff, however towards the end of the match, /ck/ managed to grab an equalizer, making this a possible fight for survival. Right at the end with the very last action of the game, Lennon managed to receive a through ball right past the defense, and one on one against the Keeper, managed to chip the ball in to make it a very late 2-1 and secure promotion for /mu/ again, extending the elite streak even further to now 3 elite knockouts in a row. In the round of 16, /mu/ faced /aco/, who the last time those two teams met was a very unpleasant match that ended 0-3 in favor of /aco/. It looked like another dark game as /aco/ took the lead early in the game while /mu/ kept trying to find a pass to Mangum but failing horribly. In the second half, /mu/ finally managed to create deadly attacks after commentators kept saying that passing to Mangum didn't seem to work, right after which Mangum responded to this bashing by getting a quick brace in 2 minutes with incredibly good passes. The game ended 2-1 and /mu/ finally reached the top 8 for the first time since winter 2021. There, they would meet the eventual champions /pw/, who used an extremely abhorrent defensively playstyle and slurped the match for 80 minutes until finally capitalizing on a defensive error by the /mu/ defense. /mu/, desperate for an answer, went all in afterwards, but this is what /pw/ wanted as they managed to sneak in a second goal, ending /mu/'s dream. Still proud to achieve a top 8 finish, /mu/ is looking forward to summer 2024, the 10 year anniversary of their elite cup win. Perhaps this is a sign that finally, great things can be achieved again.
In Summer, /mu/ was finding themselves in a group that looked oddly familiar to the group of winter, but /v/ replaces /ck/ this time. Against /tg/, the tides were suddenly completely different and /mu/ found themselves down 1-4 very early on in the game, but not losing hope crawled back to make the game a 5-4 lead, but due to defensive spaghetti, the game ended in a spectacular 5-5 draw. Against /d/ up next, the /mu/ offense was suddenly gone almost the entire match while /d/ got extremely lucky with most attacks, the game ended as a 3-5 loss. Already confirmed dead in the match against /v/, /mu/ was just looking for a fun match with /v/ and it ended in a tight 6-5 barn burner win for /mu/ with viper the kidnapper, former rapper, scoring his very first goal and immediately getting a hattrick. This tournament means that the elite streak of /mu/ is sadly over, but /mu/ looks to hopefully recover in autumn and get some new heat.

Rivalries
As an original sixteen team and a champion, it stands to reason that /mu/ has a storied history in the 4chan cup and a host of rivalries to go along with it. These rivalries have been important, recurring, and most of all, loads of fun!

| The Ol' War Song The best rivalries develop organically. /mu/-/k/ is the perfect example of this and in many ways the perfect rivalry in the 4chan cup. /mu/’s oldest and fiercest rivals, the /k/ommandos have never failed to meet up with the /mu/tants somewhere along the way whenever both teams have made their way to the same tournament. The first meeting between these two storied sides occurred in the original 2011 Summer Cup, which /mu/ took by a scoreline of 2-1. /k/ however returned fire next Winter, defeating /mu/ in a penalty shootout on their way to hoisting a 4chan cup. Once again, the two sides met the following Summer Cup, which ended in an explosive 3-3 stalemate in the group stages. Meeting again next Winter, we were to see a completely different story. /mu/ would reassert their dominance in style, outgunning the weapons board by seven goals to one, led by captain Jeff Mangum’s then-record 5 goals in a single game, helping send /k/ down to their first-ever babby cup. The two would not meet again until /mu/’s own Championship run in Summer 2014, where the game was decided in /mu/’s favor off a late Talentless Hack goal. Back in Winter, the /k/ommandos look to find /mu/ somewhere on the battlefield so they may tip the scales of this historic rivalry back in their favor, and the /mu/tants not only expect but relish the opportunity to meet the old enemy on the field once more in the best rivalry in the 4chan Cup. /a/ and /sp/ wish they could have a rivalry this great. /mu/ leads this rivalry with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. |
