Babby refers to the secondary level of 4chan Cup competition, below Elite. There are two Babby competitions in each annual cycle, the Spring Babby Cup and Autumn Babby Cup. At the conclusion of the 2024 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, there have been twenty-five Babby tournaments, the first of which was the 2012 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
The Elite level was at one time the only competition level in the 4chan Cup. With the Third Founding and a larger number of competing teams, it came to be supplemented by the Babby level.
Teams
All 71 teams have competed at the Babby level since its inception, as all teams from the First and Second Foundings have been relegated from the Elite level at some point, and all new teams must compete at, and potentially qualify for, the Babby level before potentially promoting themselves to the Elites.
Champions
Of the 71 teams in the cup, a total of 22 teams have been crowned Babby cup champions. With /m/'s victory in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup, they became the first team to win 2 Babby Cups, joined by /pol/ after the 2018 4chan Autumn Babby Cup and /mlp/ after the 2024 4chan Spring Babby Cup.
Events
There have been twenty-five events at Babby level, up to and including the 2024 4chan Autumn Babby Cup. The first Babby cup featured 22 teams competing in five groups of four teams in a group stage format following a two-team qualifier. The top eight teams then competed in a single-elimination bracket.
As more teams were founded and sought participation in the Babbies, the format for the 2012 4chan Autumn Babby Cup expanded to eight groups of four, with 16 teams being promoted to the knockouts, mirroring the format of the Elites. The 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup brought forth yet another influx of new teams, leading to a fifth pot being established and five teams playing in each group, a format commonly referred to as a "Megababby." This format was scrapped in the 2016 4chan Spring Babby Cup in favor of an expanded Babby Qualifiers (i.e. Fetus), but has seen since also been implemented for the 2018 4chan Spring Babby Cup and 2021 4chan Autumn Babby Cup.
The 2021 4chan Spring Babby Cup was cancelled because the 2021 4chan World Cup had a unique format as the 10th anniversary edition of the 4chan Cup, and therefore had a different qualification procedure, making the Babby Cup's qualification process pointless.
