E

stablished in 2013 in an event known as the Fifth Founding, /gd/FC is the official football club of 4chan's Graphic Design board. From the beginning, /gd/ wasn't afraid to go toe-to-toe with the giants of the Cup and has repeatedly proved that, despite being a small board, they're a force to be reckoned with.

Until this moment, /gd/ has been climbing the Rankings ladder after every major Cup they participated in. Following their qualification from the 2014 Spring Babbies, /gd/ entered Summer in great shape and with stable management. Facing strong competition in their group, they ended up relegating a former Elite Champion in arguably the most thrilling match of the Cup, securing their participation in the 2015 4chan Winter Cup.

While /gd/'s fanbase might not impress in numbers, it is a passionate one and the team's management enjoys the support of its fans. With a star to their name and a reputation as one of the fiercest teams, /gd/ currently holds the 21st position in the 4chan Cup Rankings.

Music Corner

Branding

The Logo: Represents the power of curves, mastery of color, and biggerness. Twin peaks catch the eye and invite your gaze downward, over the dueling gods of negative space and rainbow gradients. As your gaze tapers to the base, the eye runs back up the spine of the logo to the central hub. "GD FC", lovingly rendered in Roboto Black, a declaration that loudly assumes you know what those letters stand for. After you have finished appreciating the logo's hopefully well placed intellectual respect the eye takes a final glace upward to the almighty pen tool, whose vaguely counter-intuitive wisdom guides us all onward and overward.

The Icon: Represents the power of circles, and reusing perfectly good older work which isn't lazy at all. A narrower Roboto lends its hand well to the inscribed text, getting the point across in as little as 625 pixels. The circle is a circle, extra thick for visibility at range, a gleaming testament to our blazing desire to not just use the most predictable shape thanks. The colors and rainbow splash are taken from /gd/'s previous logo and pay tribute to its paradoxical use of off white cream and just straight up black, which stood in strong opposition of the current logo's off black jet and just straight up white.

2019 4chan Winter Cup

After yet another quarter-final finish, /gd/ would face familiar faces /mu/, /r9k/ and /ck/ in Group E. With a four game losing streak against /mu/, the first match was an opportunity for /gd/ to settle the scores between the two teams. The recently promoted /mu/ was back on their feet and a concerted effort found /mu/ behind by just one goal going into the second half. Like brief, cut-up sketches to the ears, Vaporwave finally scored, putting /gd/ at a two goal lead. A hilarious string of events involving John Lenon Beats His Wife tripping and landing in /gd/’s net resulted in an ERA penal, with /mu/ goalkeeper Merzbow taking the shot. Spaghetti was everywhere as Merzbow’s shot was not only saved by the keeper but then given to Helvetica who took it away with a shot from 52 metres, resulting in the longest goal in cup history. /mu/ were robbed of a shot, or perhaps you could even say, /mugd/. A final goal from Kerning sealed the game and in a first for /gd/, /mu/ was de-feet-ed.

Next, /gd/ would be up against /r9k/, a team known for their shots both on and off the pitch. A brace each for Glitch Art, Minimalism and Kerning and a hat-trick for /r9k/’s Elliot Rodger still left enough time for a cheeky 90-plusser from Lens Flare. The game ended 7-3 in /gd/’s favour, securing a place for /gd/ in the knockouts. With relegation now a distant dream dissolving into a distorted arabesque, the 9-ATB monster was uncaged once again. /ck/ needed to prove that they were worth their salt as a win would easily promote them over /r9k/. Unfortunately, /gd/ quickly found themselves in hot water as /ck/ cooked up a storm and then some goals. Garnished with two free kicks for /ck/, /gd/ and /ck/ would both promote, with /ck/ holding the bottle of mustard just out of reach from /gd/. Chef’s orders.

A close, intense, pinball match between /gd/ and /f/ ended in a narrow 3-2 win for /gd/. They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and /gd/ would get just that as they faced with /ck/ for a second time this tournament. /gd/’s star player was Kerning and burning, a flambé in the midst of winter. With a glut against the glut-tons of /ck/, /gd/ would make it past the quarterfinals for the first time.

With everything on the line, /gd/ plunged into the final day facing off against the previous cup’s champions, /vg/. Playing on /vg/’s field, PES being a video game, the generals did not sully their reputation as they unleashed an onslaught of goals, one of which forced Untitled-1.AI into an impressive one-handed save. Goalkeeper spaghetti from /vg/ led to an unexpected brace by Minimalism. With a solid three goal differential, /gd/ would go on to play in the finals.

Who would /gd/ expect to see in the finals but their old rival /3/? Each team having won against the other once, the heat was on as this match would not only put an end to a draw that had lasted for four years, it would also determine the winner of the Winter Cup. Glitch Art and Minimalism headed the push for /gd/ while /3/’s Blender mixed things up a little and WIP put everyone on the pitch to shame. Both teams were solid powerhouses in previous games and this match showed it. After 6 dead quarterfinals, and one hell of a Knockout, /gd/ finally brings home a star to call their own.

2022 4chan Spring Babby Cup

After a disappointing showing as an autopilot in the 2021 4chan World Cup, and another disappointing showing in the 2021 4chan Autumn Babby Cup, /gd/ would prepare themselves for the flowers to bloom and divegrass to be played in spring. /gd/ would see familiar foes in Group G the likes of /mu/, /c/ and /vst/ alongside a new foe, /b/. /gd/ opened their run in this megababby with a patrician 1-0 win over /mu/. Next they found themselves embroiled in another group stage match with /c/, the bad blood had long passed from these two teams, however some fun was poked at it. /gd/ found themselves with a 2-0 lead early but Grunty’s curse predicted this as /c/ closed the gap. Helvetica however, did not want /gd/ to die that way, and pulled ahead with a free kick goal in the dying minutes, putting /gd/ on top 3-2. Next was a rematch from the previous babby with /vst/ despite having a strong showing, /vst/s keeper showed to be too much for /gd/ to overcome, and backup keeper Untitled-1.jpeg let in the only 2 shots /vst/ could muster. Facing a do-or-die situation, /gd/ faced off against the least serious board on the site, /b/ . Kerning sank the first goal of the match, and 77 striker >>>/wsr/ had a beautiful diving header, making the game 2-0, /b/ managed to get one in but the damage had been done, /gd/ won 2-1 and were heading back to the elites.

However, there was still more to be done before then, as the knockouts were still to be played. /gd/ started their run against former friend, /sci/ where after a 0-0 first half, Vaporwave, and Kerning combined for 2 goals, which was too much for /sci/ to overcome, the game ending 2-1. Next was the Quarter finals, against the ever threatening /cm/, the first half was a low scoring affair, 0-0 as was expected from these teams however things started to get exciting after the half, twice /cm/ would score a goal and twice /gd/ would answer, pushing the game to extra time, where Kerning and Glitch Art would add two to the two goals previously scored by Kerning and Vaporwave, resulting in a 4-2 victory in extra time. Next up, in the Semi-Finals, the sibling rivalry would burn once again, as /gd/ faced off against [s4s] for the 6th time. [s4s] having not lost a single game before this, it was going to be a challenge. Kerning would get an early brace, and then /gd/ held their ground, Keksandra was able to pot one in but the game had been won, /gd/ was going to the final. There they would meet up against /pol/ both teams having only lost a single game on their runs here. The match would start off quickly with a goal from Fuck You Pay Me, but then the game would be in a lull until the half, after the half however, Kerning would put a goal in, making the game 2-0, quickly thereafter, the Bogs would score for /pol/ making the game 2-1. Not wanting to let the game get out of hand Kerning would answer, and then in stoppage Glitch Art would score as well, the final score reading 4-1 in /gd/’s favor. With that, /gd/ would finally have a babby trophy to add to their trophy case alongside that of Winter 2019, having joined the select group of teams to have both a star and a babby cup win. It was not an easy road to get to here but, good design takes time, work and many iterations.

/gd/ are one of the teams who have directly relegated an Elite team.
/gd/ went undefeated in their first 8 games after their inception, yet only won 3 of those 8 games.
/gd/ are one of only two teams to survive in an Elite Cup after not scoring in their first 2 matches, the other being /f/.
The 2014 4chan Autumn Babby Cup was the first tournament /gd/ sat out since their inception.
In every Cup they had participated in up until Winter 16, /gd/ had lost exactly twice each Cup. This was broken after their 9 point performance in the Group Stages.
M3OWMlX's plan to get /gd/ high in the rankings which he was infamously banned for actually worked in the end, as they reached 12th by the end of Summer 2014.

/ic/ - The Artbowl Is graphic design art? Are pencils and brush tools outdated? Are designers hipster neckbeards with no real job? Are artists stone-age poser wannabes who are only good at sketching their favorite thing in the world - dicks? The answer to those questions largely depended on what was one of the most charged rivalries among small boards in the 4chan Cup. At least until internal turmoil put /ic/'s participation in future Cups in jeopardy. /gd/ so far has the only win in an official cup tie after an intense 1-0 in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup, in which Helvetica score a fantastic blooter to put /gd/ one up on table against the d/ic/ks. The sides met in the following friendlies to celebrate both teams' advancement from Spring, in which this time saw /ic/ get revenge on the win/gd/ings. However it was only a friendly that didn't effect any sort of rankings so w-we weren't even trying, o-okay?. Following a recent scandal with /ic/ and their former manager and resident Cup psychopath OrangeAndBlack, /ic/ found themselves in a sleepy position and unable to play in any tournaments any time soon. The previous two meetings with /ic/ could well be the last.

/3/ - Renders vs Rasters Derby A less spite-filled derby in comparison to the other two, but still with a good charge to it. The battle of images versus models. 3D dicks versus vectors of dicks. A new take to 2D vs 3DPD. Against all odds, the first iteration of this derby was won 2-1 by /3/ in the 2014 4chan Spring Babby Cup, making /gd/ the first team to lose to them in over a year, a rather embarrassing statistic given the fact that it's fucking /3/, adding more spice to the mix of an otherwise friendly rivalry. /gd/ found their revenge exactly a year later in the following Spring Babby Cup in both teams' opening match of the group stages. The game finished 1-0 and with at least 100 less viewers by the end too, as /3/ used one of the funkiest formations that /gd/ have ever seen with a 4-1-5, which caused a game so boring you could hear the sounds of semen being slurped loud and clearly. This was followed by 4 years of the rivalry being left at an even score (mostly because /3/ had been ded for 90% of that time), it was finally settled on the ultimate playing field, the 2019 4chan Winter Cup Final, where /gd/ triumphed 3-2 over their 3D cousins to lift an Elite Cup for the first time. Then /3/ died again, leaving the rivalry dormant once again for who knows how long.

/i/ - The >Artbowl Two teams with a lot in common. Both snooty artists who claim their form of creativity is superior. Both overachieving small teams with big aspirations for glory. And, of course, both have directly relegated 4chan Cup titans /sp/, something neither team was given a chance for by pundits at the time, hence the name The GOATslayer Derby. Although a match from this rivalry has yet to be played, the setup for it is supercharged, with both teams and their fans just waiting for the opportunity to go at each other's throats. With /ic/ likely out of the mix, the title of best artists in the 4chan Cup is now wedged between these two and it's there for the taking. The two teams once met in the Unofficial Winter Friendlies of 2015 on the infamous >Artbowl pitch, which turned out to be one of the most exciting games of the entire friendlies in a heated 4-4 rivalry stalemate where /gd/ came back from behind twice to level the scorings out. /i/ and /gd/ finally met again (unofficially) in Stupor Cup 7, which is held between cup champions. Fortunately/unfortunately this game turned out to be a huge meme, where the only goal was an own goal scored by resident shitpost player "Graphic Design Is My Passion". Good hustle, idiot.
